My home is a 3-bedroom mid-century ranch-style pool home in the quiet Los Angeles suburb of Porter Ranch (a re-named part of Northridge). It's fully-furnished, with a fully-equipped kitchen, and very comfortable. Guests from different countries have said they like it because they can visit anywhere in LA and feel like they are living at home while on vacation. One wall in the living room is mostly glass and looks out to the pool.

Andrew's place was the perfect location for us while visiting family. Andrew is a fantastic host, communicative and professional. The living room was my favorite spot to be in, which had good light from the backyard overlooking the pool area. Lots of seating and everything was ve…

This was the second time we stayed at Andrew’s place. Perfect location to be near the rest of our family over a holiday weekend. It’s a lovely home, perfect for our needs, and beautifully updated since last year

Great place! The House was clean, comfortable, and in a great location. The pool was immaculate, the backyard was great to lounge in, and everything was comfortable. Highly recommend!

The house itself was great. I was very clear with Andrew that I was renting the home to have a relaxing weekend with my mother and aunt's lounging by the pool all day with plenty of privacy. That was the theme of the weekend. Upon check in Andrew shared that he scheduled landscap…

Response from Andrew:
First, one of the male workers that made Alexandria "somewhat uncomfortable" was a 9 year old boy. Second, I just re-read Alexandria's first message asking to stay at the house. Nowhere in that message did she use the words "private" or "privacy." Neither did any of her other 15 pre-reservation messages. Third, that kitchen window that Alexandria says has no shutters or curtains? She's right, but it does have double-layer honeycomb thermal blinds that cover the entire window. As to the scheduling of the workers, Alexandria misunderstood me. I had ordered over trees and plants to re-landscape the front and back yards and learned the day before the truck was arriving the day after check-in. I told Alexandria soon as she arrived and we AGREED no worker would go to the back yard, BUT she said it was okay to plant in the front yard, so I had the workers come with strict instructions to not go to the back yard (which they never did). From the front yard, no one except a bird in the air can see any part of the backyard or pool because the house itself is in between. When Alexandria came out to the front yard and expressed her "discomfort" with two men and a small boy even in the front yard because woman in bathing suits were in the kitchen (where no one could or did see them), I asked and Alexandria confirmed (1) no one had gone in the back; and (2) no one in her group had said anyone working looked at them or even tried looking. I showed Alexandria that the workers out front were planting 20 to 30 feet to the side of the kitchen window, meaning no one could humanly see inside the house. I have no idea what Alexandria and her group were doing by the pool or why she didn't use the kitchen blinds, but just to be nice, I had all the workers leave. Also, the house is on a raised foundation so the kitchen floor is raised 3 feet from the ground and the "huge window" starts about 1 foot above the kitchen sink; it's easy to look down and outside from the kitchen but hard to see more than someone's shoulders and head looking from outside. I know, I raised a family in that house. Fourth, I feel like no good deed goes unpunished. As Alexandria knows from the whopping 32 pre-reservation messages between us, my airbnb posting is vibrantly clear that I can't allow parties or events at the house due to an agreement with neighbors. I made a real exception here even approving the reservation--and would not have approved it if any one of Alexandria's 15 pre-reservation messages had said she absolutely required total privacy on a Saturday with no one but her group allowed anywhere on the property because Saturday is the scheduled day for the weekly gardener (which upon check-in Alexandria told me would also make her "uncomfortable," so as a favor I cancelled his weekly yard service). On check-in, Alexandria said there were bugs on the pool water surface--so I personally netted them. There was a rock on the pool bottom, so we agreed I'd have someone come at 7 am the next day before her swimming started to fish it out and vacuum and brush the whole pool, which stirs up dust on the bottom and then I heard it made the water cloudy (the water by the way is tested every 3 days and everything about it was in balance). Airbnb started as a way to "share" occupied or vacant furnished homes for less than hotels. Not to rent or lease, but share. Twice this summer I've had Alexandria and one other guest speak as if in addition to providing an entire 3-bedroom pool home that accommodates 6 people for $210 per night, I'm supposed to make sure or get permission ahead of time for when the gardener and pool man come or otherwise provide provide resort-hotel style "customer service" when asked to do something.

The house is very comfy and cozy. Updates throughout. The only disappointment was the pool.

Response from Andrew:
By the pool being a "disappointment" I'm assuming Michael refers to the dark film on the light blue tiles above the waterline that he texted a pic of the morning after check in. I had someone check it the same day. Best we figured the guests with kids who had just left after a long stay, and swam all the time, had used a lot of suntan lotion that made dust stick to the pool tiles because the film came off easily with a quick brushing. To show Michael the pool water was fine, I also went to the pool supply store where I take water samples for testing and left him print outs of the test results from 4 days before his stay and the test results from the day after he checked in, which showed the water was in balance. It's summer and had been 90-100 degrees for weeks before Michael's stay--with guests using the pool almost every day, often loaded with suntan lotion, I do my best by servicing the pool not just once per week, but often twice weekly during the summer months. Otherwise I'm glad you found the home comfy and cozy!

Andrew is a wonderful host who is very responsive to his guests. The home itself was immaculate and in a nice quite and peaceful neighborhood. The house feels secluded, but is actually pretty central with lots of nearby attractions. The home was very clean, modern and comfortable…

Hi Reeta, thanks for the nice review! I just want to clarify what I told you just before and at your arrival: The workers who came early were NOT landscapers doing yard work, they were construction contractors who had to dig a 40-foot long, 7-foot deep trench to replace the main drain for the whole house from the front of the house to the street curb. It broke while the house was vacant for 3 days before your arrival and the job turned out to be longer than 3 days when they discovered during digging the main drain pipe was 7 feel underground in hard-to-dig clay soil. I had them install a temporary main drain to have everything in the house work normal during your stay. Once that was installed, they installed the new 6 inch pipe. What started as a 3-day job ended up being a 6-day job, but as you know all work was out in the front yard and had no impact in the house or backyard and pool. I knew they were starting early as I told you--because hand digging in the 100-degree heat was hard work--but when they told me "early," I didn't know it was 6 am, and I'm sorry if that bothered you. My only other option was to cancel your stay, but you had booked so long beforehand I didn't want to do that. Thanks again for the nice review--your family was great and you are welcome back anytime!!
