The Space

This charming cottage style two bedroom, one bath home is one-half of the ohana (or second family home) on my private two acre property. It is located on a quiet, secluded street a short ten minute drive south of Hilo on the Big Island of Hawai'i.
The cottage includes a large covered wrap-around lanai, and 800 square feet of interior space: a kitchen, dining and living area, a large bathroom with tiled shower, one bedroom with a queen sized bed, and the other bedroom with a full sized bed.
We are conveniently located for exploring all of East Hawaii, from the Ahalanui Hot Ponds and Kapoho Tide Pools in southern Puna, to Volcano National Park, and (of course) Hilo and the Hamakua coast regions. We are also happy to share snorkeling equipment, ice chests, and a variety of picnic gear with our guests.
We always have our own fresh farm-raised eggs to share with our guests, as well as seasonal fruits and vegetables; and are also very convenient to many of the local farmer's markets for year round fresh tropical produce. A nice selection of restaurants can be found in nearby in Kea'au and Pahoa villages, and are even more abundant in Hilo town.

  • A couple friends and I stayed here and absolutely loved it! It was more than we expected; very comfortable and cozy, and Darya had everything we would ever need (and more) for our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and would definitely return! Thanks Darya :)

  • This place was exactly what we thought it is, nice, quiet and it felt like home. I loved the porch, we always ate on the porch. Great place, great location.

  • This is a beautiful, clean and relaxed cottage to stay at while in Hilo. The cottage has a beautiful vibe that you actually don't want to leave the cottage and just want to stay in. You will find everything you need for your stay here.
Darya is a very warm and welcoming person who will do everything to make your stay as convenient as possible.

  • I had a very good time in this Bnb. The house is clean, private, and it has a good location, and Darya is very helpful. You won't be regret to choose this.

  • The cottage was comfortable and clean. There was plenty of room for 4 of us. The cottage smelled musty and was damp because it is in the rain forest area . Breakfast was only provided for 1 out of the 3 days stay.

  • Such a charming cottage! The place was clean and full of everything you would need on an island getaway. The fresh fruits, eggs and bread were lovely and made for a good breakfast our second day there. The directions given were very easy to follow and we found the place with no trouble. I would totally recommend this place to others!

  • The cottage is really great. We chose this place to explore the east side of the island and it turned out to be a very good choice. Going with a baby we didn't want to stay too close to the volcano because of the fumes that sometimes can affect areas of the island. Driving to the volcano was pretty fast, though. And the cottage is surrounded by gorgeous nature with very clean air. The cottage was well equipped and everything was really convenient. The porch was great too. We had the chance to meet Darya and we can say she's a lovely and attentive host. We definitely recommend this place to people visiting the Big Island.

  • We arrived during a major storm/flash flood warning and tsunami alert. Darya greeted us with only the slightest sign of distraction, was gracious and accommodating. The metal roof was delightful during the frequent downpours! The lanai was cozy and private. We really felt we were having an adventure in a rain forest, without stress or discomfort. The living room furniture is amazingly comfortable and multiple windows make you feel you are outside even in the house. The weather cleared the next day and all the freshly washed foliage and flowers were sparkling. The only down side to the house was that the bathroom light didn't work. Darya left us a solar light and night light. The solar light was not much help but the night light gave us enough light at night that the lack of regular lighting was just a minor inconvenience.

  • It's a lovely house, neat and with everything we need. Many coqui frogs around, for us it is quite unique and comfy to sleep with that frog sound.

  • Our focus on our visit to the Hilo area was to visit the observatory, the tide pools at Kapoho and the hot springs at Ahalanui (plus some lava caves and waterfalls). Darya's cottage was very well located (outside of Hilo near the quaint town of Pa'hoa). While dated, it was very clean and provided us with everything we needed. At first, I thought not having air conditioning was a problem, but as it turns out - it was not necessary as the ceiling fans and windows more than provide a comfortable environment. It is located in a quiet community and the sounds of the surrounding area are very soothing.

Darya was there when we arrived and was very welcoming. She provided some fresh fruit and eggs from her chickens. Note that there are no laundry facilities here; a clothes line is provided to dry out any wet items.

About
I grew up in California, and came to the Big Island of Hawaii 9 years ago. I love plants and food, children and animals, art and photography. I would love to travel to Europe again, but first I hope to travel to Asia: China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, and to eat my way through every delicious region! But until then, meeting people from all parts of the world as they travel to our beautiful, welcoming island is just perfect!
