The Space

WHAT MAKES THIS YOUR FIRST CHOICE?
- Perched on the top-floor (with a small elevator), your bright and airy flat is flooded with light from the living room window and opposite facing bedroom window.
- Situated in a highly acclaimed central neighbourhood, close to many sights, bistros, bars, farmers markets, strolling areas, and public transport options.
- Hosted by experienced, professional and and friendly people who have tried to make it feel like *your* home away from home. We've earned the Airbnb "Superhost" badge for this.
- 1 block from the Seine river shoreline along which you'll find the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, the Louvre and Musee D'orsay, and the gracefully lit-bridges and historic Latin Quarter.

LAYOUT and AMENITIES:

- Bedroom(s): 1 separated bedroom with a queen-sized bed with high-quality sheets and pillows.

- Spacious living-room area converts (if needed) to a 2nd bedroom at sleeping time with the sleeper sofa. This is best for children.

- Free high speed wi-fi internet access. A plug adapter for US/UK laptops is provided.

- Free calls to Europe, US/Canada, Australia, +100 other countries.

- TV with English news channels

- Kitchen: equipped with microwave, oven, dishwasher, gas-stove, fridge, toaster, kettle, pots/pans, tableware, etc.

- Bathroom: Clean, spacious bathroom with bathtub/shower and a toilet in a separate tiny room with own entry (as is common in French flats). Soap, shampoo, towels provided - the kind of high quality stuff you'll find in a boutique-hotel. A washing machine, hang-drying, Hair-dryer, Iron & (email hidden) plug adapter provided. (voltage is 220-240)

Guest Access

You have access to everything in the flat. I've even added some non-perishable food for jet-lagged stomachs such as pasta and coffee.
I keep my stuff and extra linens in one of the closets off the hallway. I do not want you to self-serve to anything inside there. But everything other than that is for you to use as if you were at your own home.

Interaction with Guests

You'll have exclusive use of the flat during your stay. I don't live in the building but am a phone call away and always answer my phone -- even at night. You'll be welcomed and shown around the flat when you arrive by a professional who I've contracted for this if I'm not available to welcome you personally.

The Neighborhood

SURROUNDING AREA (5-20 minutes walking distance):
- Your flat is across the street from one of the top-ranked Paris bakeries called "My father was a Baker"
- A mini-convenience store, open until 10:30pm every day, is a block away.
- Cafes, pizzerias and a wide selection of traditional French bistros catering to discerning local clients are all within walking distance.
- A supermarket (Franprix), and a bio-foods higher-end supermarket (Bio C' Bon), a pharmacy, doctor, hospital, credit-card machine, florist, wine, cheese, and other specialized shops, open-air farmer's markets (the "Marché Maubert" -- the oldest known Paris open-air farmers market and The Bastille market on the canal on north of the Bastille).
- An avant-garde contemporary art museum "La Maison Rouge" and the outstanding Paris architecture/urban design museum called "Le Pavillon d'Arsenal"
- Great areas for strolling: along the river Seine, Le Marais (aka "the village"), the Saint-Paul Village, and Place des Vosges, Notre Dame and Saint Louis Island
- The Botanical Gardens and Natural History Museum and a mini-zoo are across the river.
- On Sundays, and in peak of Summer, the road along the river is closed to cars and open to pedestrians, roller-bladers, and bicyclists.
- Cinemas, Opera, and night-life (jazz clubs, lounges, cafes & bars) in the Bastille and Marais areas.
- One of the best Thai-massage spas in Paris to relax those muscles from your long journeys and sight-seeing.

ABOUT THE NEIGHBOURHOOD:
Located in the highly acclaimed 4th arrondisement in heart of Paris, adjacent to the Saint-Louis Island, the botanical gardens (with a mini-zoo), the Latin Quarter, and Le Marais village, This idyllic location has been the the backdrop for many Paris romantic films including "Before Sunset" and "Midnight in Paris". You can stroll along the river, take a boat-ride, partake in the picnicking, dance tango or salsa, shop in the open-air farmer's markets, or browse the designer and antique shops. You'll be immersed in all that makes this area so quintessentially Parisian and attracts discerning locals.

Getting around

WHY THE LOCATION IS IDEAL:
Very accessible (2 to 7 minutes walking) to all kinds of public transport: bus, metro, city-bikes, boat, and even the direct RER train which can take you to Musée d'Orsay, Louvre, Eiffel Tower, and Versailles. There's a boat "Batobus" dock on the opposite side of the river where you can make a round-trip to the Eiffel Tower and take in the city's beautiful bridges and medieval architecture along the way using the hop-on-hop-off option.

Our street has a separated bike lane and there is an adjacent "Velib" city-bike station from where you can rent a bike for 1€ per day. Bicycling in Paris by using the innovative bike scheme is one of the best ways to enjoy the city. You're lucky to be at the cross-roads of many different bike-paths taking you to all directions in the city.

You can easily get to the airports using the metro/train. (Details on meeting time and the pros/cons of various transfer options will sent to you in a few days prior to your arrival and with your booking confirmation. See "House Manual").

Other Things to Note

We've lowered the nightly rate by 33% thru 2014 to compensate our future guests for any potential inconvenience due to any noise from the construction site of a 7-story luxury building. The noise risk is only between 8:30am to 5pm on weekdays when the crew operates. Although our recent guests have confirmed that noise during these hours is less than what other flats in an urban environment have from neighbours or street noise, we want you to be aware (and hopefully pleasantly surprised). It's not an adjacent building. It's situated on the far end of a large courtyard.

Until July 15: To keep prices down (this is priced as a studio even though it's a 1br flat in a top location), we share the wi-fi with neighbour. The signal is strongest from the sitting area in the central hallway. There's no TV nor phone, but no one has said they missed having one. If you're someone who wants either, please let me know if you'd be willing to pay a little extra for more amenities.

Starting July 15 - there will be ultra high-speed (via Giba-bit fiber) internet access. There will also be a phone where you can receive receive phone calls and make free calls to US/Canada, Europe, and Australia and 100 other countries.

  • the location of this unit is very good.
the listing was misleading. the noise issue is dramatically understated. the construction was really not the issue. the issue is that the location borders very busy streets that are extremely noisy. opening the windows for the "breeze" is a serious trade off. the metro runs nearby and that noise is dramatic as well. none of this will change when the construction is completed.
the amenities were misstated. there was no T.V. the space is dingy and poorly furnished. the couch is ripped and the very slim piece of foam on the pull out couch is very uncomfortable.
the noise became unbearable when construction started in the apartment next door. when I sent a brief email complaining, the host's response was to discuss her "hurt feelings". also, asking for the supplies promised in the description was treated as if a favor had been afforded us. as it is clear this host has multiple properties she rents. (her "agent" was letting folks into another apartment nearby as well) . from the condition of this unit, I doubt anyone lives here. her response was unprofessional.
it seems that airbnb has become an occupation for some, and I hope as this industry evolves, it's roots of home sharing and community connection would be honored.

  • We stayed at this apartment 3 days and have to say the location is just great and close to all the tourist place accessible through metro. We have enjoyed our stay in Paris . Thank you Ivonne for hosting us. . Elevator is a little small but what I heard was that is typical Parisian style :-)! Wifi strength is a little weak in the bedroom , overall I would recommend this to anyone visiting Paris .If we are to visit paris again , certainly we will choose the same place again!

  • Everything was as described. We had a wonderful experience. We were met at the apartment, even though we were later than expected. It was clean, sunny and very comfortable. The location is great for walking, sight seeing and utilizing the Metro. We have nothing but good things to say about our experience. Thank you for providing us with a wonderful, comfortable and safe place to stay.

  • The apartment is in a really good neighborhood. The area is not very touristy and yet very close to all tourist attractions. There are also plenty of local shops, restaurants nearby. The metro was really very close. We reached the apartment few minutes early and the cleaning lady handed over the key after we talked with Ricardo. Ricardo came with some marmalade, butter, coffee, etc. The kitchen was perfect with micro-oven, oven, dishwasher, toaster, paper, towels, dishwasher detergent, sponge, etc. Thanks for the crackers that we really liked very much. There was a little problem with the convertible sofa, but Ricardo finally made it into a bed for our daughter. The sofa bed is good but needs a little mending. It is perfect for a child. The decor was nice and we really felt that we were in a home away from our home. Would certainly recommend to friends.

About
I am happy to offer you accommodation in my beautifully renovated apartment. I take several trips a year (because my husband and I have families on separate continents and we love to travel) and stay in vacation rentals, boutique hotels and bed & breakfasts. And that means that I bring home the best ideas from these places. I've taken great pride in renovating this historic apartment with modern contemporary designs I learned during my studies in interior architecture. You'll see my attention to detail in the amenities I provide. And I'll be happy to share my knowledge of the area and life in Paris over a drink. And I want to hear about your hometown, your travel stories, and the good, the bad and the ugly of the places you've seen.
