This is one of the apartments in Villa Lola, located in Vaðlaheiði near Akureyri, the capital of north Iceland.
The villa is located in the exclusive residence area of Akureyri. This location offers you a quiet atmosfair and a touch of the nature. You will have a view over the bay and Akureyri . In the winter time you can enjoy the aurora borealis and in the summer time the midnight sun.
Akureyri is just 10 min. drive. In Akureyri you have all kinds of shops, restaurantsand many cafés, different galleries and there are lots of professional music concerts as well all summer music festival.
In the studio there is a living area with kitchenette (no owen) and bathroom on the first floor, then there is a loft where there is a double bed. Towels and bedlinen are inclunded in the price. We offer a extra bed and baby bed on request.
There is an easy access not only to the center of Akureyri but also all the interesting sites surrounding.
From the house you can take a hiking tours, you can walk up to Sulur, the mountain above Akureyri, you can hire horses for daily tours or a midnight sun ride, visit naturally heated swimming pool, you can hire kayakas or join professional diving, play golf on the northern most 18 whole golf ground, go on a angling trip, have a walk along the fjord and then I like to tell you about the birthplace and home of heli skiing in Iceland, the Troll Peninsula in the country just below the Arctic Circle. In winter, ski or do cross-country skiing in the best ski resort with view of the fjord, amazing! Or dog sledging with our huskies and snowshoewalks or fishing troght ice.
And then it is very popular to drive the road skirting the beautiful western shore of the Eyjafjordur Fjord, visit the magnificent waterfalls, Goðafoss and Dettifoss, Dimmuborgir, Mývatn, the Grand Canyon of Jökulsárgljúfur and whale watching in Húsavík. It is also possible to take an organized day trip from Akureyri to the island of Grimsey, which straddles the Arctic Circle.
It is easy to get to Akureyri!
Icelandair is offering flights to Akureyri. So it is as well just a 45 Min. flight from Reykjavik downtown to Akureyri. It is only a 7km drive from the airport to our house. If you are driving, Akureyri is on the ringroad and is a approx. 5 to 6 hours drive from Reykjavik. To stay in vaðlaheiði you need a car.
The property offers a quiet position and a great view.
It is a easy access to the center of Akureyri and the beautiful places in its surroundings.
This is a magical place to stay for your visit in the north. The location is nothing short of amazing, as is the view of Akureyri. Highly recommend to everyone!
Jorunn's space was warm and perfect as a winter base for exploring northern Iceland. Not even 10 minutes from Akureyri and within 2 hours of Dettifoss etc. Jorunn will find a way to contact you before your trip, as the house may be a bit difficult to find. Loved that the floors were heated. It truly is a studio, so please keep that in mind when deciding to stay. The stairs lack a railing, but shouldn't be an issue unless you are on the larger side or have difficulties moving about. Also, duck when entering the loft! The lowest part of the slanted ceiling is at the top of the stairs. Not great for taller people. (I'm 5'4'') The kitchen is well stocked with gadgets and even some spices and such, so bring food to cook if you wish to save money! Great views!
The apartment itself was beautiful, we had an amazing view over Akureyri, and were able to see the Northern Lights on both nights we stayed! We loved the modernist design of the studio, and the kitchen was very well equipped. We never had the chance to meet Jórunn, but we were greeted and warmly welcomed by Helga living in the studio beside ours. One thing to consider when visiting during the winter is that the apartment is quite difficult to access via car (even 4x4) with snow on the ground. We recommend parking any vehicle at the top of the hill (highway 828) and walking down to the studio.
A very lovely, cosy modern apartment with a fantastic view of Akyureri & the surrounding mountains. The area around the apartment was very peaceful & quiet. Helga, the housekeeper, was very hospitable, and helpful in giving driving directions to the apartment. With heated floors, free wifi and an iMac to check on weather conditions and whatever else, and with groceries and restaurants just a 5-min drive away in Akyureri, the apartment is definitely the perfect base to explore the rest of Northern Iceland, which has absolutely stunning & picturesque views at every turn! Highly recommended.
We had a beautiful pre christmas time at this superb designed and equipped little apartment. We had free wifi plus a computer full with nice romantic music. Helga our contact on the spot was very helpful during the stay.
The only problem we were facing in this winter time is that considering the amount of snow we had, plus very much wind on the hill, the road to the apartment (last 500 meters)was not always perfectly maintained. One should be aware, that in wintertime you might have to walk through high snow in the evening even though the road had been cleaned in the morning.
We are looking forward to coming back in summer time to this otherwise perfect place.
We had an amazing time staying at Jorunn and Mirra's studio for two nights this December. On the day we arrived, they were already in touch with us before our flight landed to see what kind of car we were driving up to the property so they could arrange snow removal in case of bad weather (and we ended up needing it!).
The loft was super cozy and warm - the heated floors are so amazing when it's chilly outside - and there's an amazing view of Akureyri that was beautiful day and night.
It was wonderful to use the computer to play music, check the forecast, and get in touch with our tour operators. The free wifi was a big plus too. We loved the pay-as-you-drink wine, especially since we kept missing the opening hours of the state-run liquor store in town :)
Wonderful stay, and we hope to find ourselves back at the loft again soon!
