It is also possible to take an organized day trip from Akureyri to the island of Grimsey, which straddles the Arctic Circle.
It is easy to get to Akureyri!
Icelandair is offering flights to Akureyri. So it is as well just a 45 Min. flight from Reykjavik downtown to Akureyri. It is only a 7km drive from the airport to our house. If you are driving, Akureyri is on the ringroad and is a approx. 5 to 6 hours drive from Reykjavik. To stay in vaðlaheiði you need a car.
The property offers a quiet position and a great view.
It is a easy access to the center of Akureyri and the beautiful places in its surroundings.
The reservation was canceled 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Jórunn was very nice to accommodate us at the last minute. The studio is perched above the bay of Akureyri with a beautiful view of the city and water. It is also setup nicely with entertainment (computer/music/tv). Be advised that the driveway to the studio is difficult to navigate in snow without a 4x4. We thoroughly enjoyed our night here and hope to come back in the summer months.
Very nice place with a beautiful view on Akureyri. This stay allow us to view beautiful northern lights during our stay in Iceland.
Great Place. Funky architecture, cosy, comforable and stunning view. Please ask Jorunn to email the satellite pics on order to find the place. It might be hard to find without them. Very clean on arrival. We would very happily stay here again. There are 3 units. the smallest is on the north side, so good for spotting Northern Lights. In summer I would book the central or southern units which get more sunlight. Must have 4wd car in winter. Thanks to Anna who prepared the studio so well.
We loved staying in Jorunn's studio. It was beautiful and comfortable. However, a few basic things were lacking such as a reliable can opener (we borrowed one from the people who were staying in the cabin next door) and a wine bottle opener (we pried the cork out with a knife!). There were lots of free oranges though and good coffee, two very nice touches. I was a little disappointed to find that after driving over 6 hours in blizzard conditions, the space was not clean and ready for us and no one was there to settle us in. Soon after, though, her dad came and helped us get in and we got to stay in a larger suite that was clean and ready, so she did make a nice effort. Also, I was bummed that the WIFI went out on Christmas and I didn't get phone service there, so I was unable to talk to my family on Christmas. Lastly, the snow there was so heavy, we were trapped in the house for a couple days because we got stuck in the drive way. But again, her dad came to help us out. Ultimately, the stay was very nice and I felt Jorunn tried her best to make us comfortable though she wasn't available herself.
Great spot and Jorunn was quite helpful in checking in. The unit itself is small, but bright and clean. Great view across the water down to Akurei.
Very nice apartment with a very nice view in a great area.
We would definitely return to this place if we ever again visit Akureyri. We loved the layout and the view and found the place to be well-maintained. We found it very comfortable to hang out there after touring all day. It was warm and well-lighted. It was nice to have use of Jorunn's computer as well as being able to use the wi-fi for our smartphones and netbook. The kitchen had everything we truly needed; we didn't care to cook elaborate meals. Very large, old or out-of-shape people could possibly have a problem with the steps up to the loft, but not most people. In sum, we highly recommend Jorunn's studio.
The best about this place was the view. No oven or microwave. No coffee maker. nowhere comfortable to sit. nowhere to hang clothes. the place needs a little maintenance. The refrigerator freezer door is falling off, the drapes need fixing, the nail in the old table needs to be pounded down. The computer keyboard is a piece of work.
The worst and most dangerous is the narrow steep stairway to the loft. A glorified ladder with no railing and a cinder block as a step. Not for older people. This would not meet building codes.
No laundry facilities in the town or in the unit.
If you are just looking for for one up from camping this is adequate
A very beautiful studio with a great view of Akureyri! It's designed and furnished by architects, and it shows! Clean, comfortable. Owners are very friendly. We recommend it!
