A large experience in a tiny space. If you would like to leave the streets and resort to your special little hide away, a hidden secret with a sunny deck, flooded with great morning sunshine, the chirping of garden birds, just you and your own sliver of New Orleans courtyard living, Then I have the spot for you. All new, featuring contemporary design, utilizing space to an inch's degree. It feature a large bath with 2 unique nature windows, a small kitchenette with everything you need for cooking and eating in. A queen sized reclining Murphy bed with a flat screen tv for bedtime viewing. Windows throughout are in placement to viewing only nature, expansive treetops and starry nights. Make this your spot of retreat. Stop here a read a book, stay long enough to write a novel.
This Mid-City studio is hidden behind a traditional New Orleans shotgun double, with its own entrance and private deck in the back of the house.
The location couldn't be better -- it's two blocks away from the Canal/City Park streetcar line, so you have easy access to downtown, but you're a bit removed from the noise and the crowds (exception: the Saturday of the Endymion parade before Mardi Gras, when this neighborhood turns into a gigantic block party). There are two grocery stores within walking distance (Rouses is a great local chain), plus Walgreens, The Bean Gallery coffee shop, and several local restaurants worth a visit.
The studio gets great light through the windows and cools off pretty quickly on a hot day with open windows (or a window A.C. unit if you really need it). The Murphy bed is pretty comfy, too. Ultimately, the place is perfect if you plan to do most of your socializing and eating outside of your home-away-from-home. The kitchenette is a bit too tiny for meal prep beyond re-heating leftovers or warming up food on a hot plate.
Some of the other comforts of home were missing, too. You will likely be an early riser if you stay here; be prepared for the lack of curtains on the windows. We also tried to no avail to locate a few other touches that would have been nice to have: hand soap/sanitizer, additional hangers (just one was hanging in the tiny "closet" next to the kitchenette), and a full-sized trash can and trash bags.
All in all, though, we had a wonderful visit and would stay at this location again if we decide to return to Mid-City on our next NOLA trip.
This is an adorable studio. It's very clean and tastefully decorated. Conveniently located within walking distance of the beautiful city park and the lovely canal. Also, just two blocks from a grocery store and other shops. Bev was sweet and very responsive to any questions. I would definitely stay here again.
My dog and I had a 2-month stay in the Jazz Courtyard Reading Room this summer. It's a sweet studio in a lovely, walkable neighborhood with friendly neighbors, and I felt very comfortable in the space. I've stayed in several different neighborhoods in New Orleans and this one made me feel the most like a local--it's not exactly off the beaten path (NO isn't that big) but you could totally avoid the whole French Quarter vibe staying here. It really expands your perception of the city.
As a long-term guest I knew it was a small space so I packed very carefully for the summer, but I was surprised to find that there's no closet or even a bureau, which I never thought to ask about. I was able to put together a simple makeshift closet, but it would have been tough to keep the space open and orderly without it.
There were tenants in both of the front apartments for most of my stay but had I not seen them I would never have known--it was very quiet.
I would recommend the space for any New Orleans visitors.
