About this listing
Come to our mountains and let us spoil you! A comfortable, quiet queen room with views of the San Juans. Come see why our guests rave about the views, especially from our hot tub at night. Full gourmet breakfast included!
Summer is in full-on sizzle in the San Juans! The snow-melt has provided an abundance of wildflowers, and the jeep and hiking trails are at their peak. This lovely timbered home is nestled at the foot of Log Hill Mesa at 7,000 ft. in the foothills of the dramatic San Juan Mountains, easily the most scenic area of Colorado. The home has 360 degree views of many fourteeners in the Cimarron Range and the Mt. Sneffels Range, plus lake and mesa views. The two available 2nd floor rooms are a queen and a somewhat larger room with twin beds and a private balcony. There is a private guest bath for each room and a guest laundry. This listing is for the Mexican Queen room. Check out our 2nd listing at: True Grit Rustic Retreat-Spruce Room.
You are 1/2 mi. to Ridgway State Park offering boating, fishing, swimming, biking and camping. Only 10 mins. to town, 20 mins. to the old mining town of Ouray, and 45 mins. to Telluride Ski Resort. There is abundant hiking, jeeping, horseback riding, snowshoeing and X-country skiing only minutes from your door. Visit the Chamber website at: (website hidden) for more things to do.
Our rustic western town (where the film "True Grit" was made!) offers many dining options, a small grocery, a fine library, antique and retail shops, plus the restored Sherbino Theater offering movies and live musical entertainment. Did you know that Ridgway is the home of the Grammy Awards? They are handcrafted right here in town, and you can tour their workshop! We also have our own liquor distillery/pub, Trail Town Still, and The Colorado Boy Brew Pub, an award-winning brewer. There are two hot springs very close by; one is clothing optional:) Entertainment opportunities are myriad as this is a very artsy-fartsy community.
Whether winter or summer, come to our mountains and let us spoil you!
Living and dining room, plus limited kitchen privileges (please see House Rules below). Baths on 1st and 2nd flr., outside decks and hot tub.
Interaction with Guests
As much as our guests would like! We are happy to provide advice on places to dine & visit.
Our neighborhood is very quiet and several of our neighbors have horses. The ranch to our west has cows and horses. The only sounds you will hear are the cattle lowing & the Mtn. Jays chattering;). A 35 acre field across our road is a perfect spot for snowshoeing or X-country skiing. Ride your bike 1/2 mile to the trail which takes you into town or into the State park.
No public transport.

Lysa and Don are gracious and caring hosts. Their house is spacious and cozy, under a sea full of stars out in the open land in Colorado with great views of the Sneffles Mountain Range. We loved looking at the stars from the hot tub, and the breakfast was delicious!
Lysa and Don's place was amazing! Every bit as wonderful as advertised, and breakfast was delicious too!! The neighborhood is nice and quiet, scenery can't be beat, and Lysa and Don make it feel like home. I really enjoyed talking with you both, and hope to come back one day soon!!! Highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area!
Lysa and Don were incredibly welcoming. Their home has magnificent views of the mountains on many sides. Lysa prepared a great breakfast from a variety of choices. I'll definitely look up Lysa and Don again when I'm in southwest Colorado.
Lysa and Don were incredible hosts and have a beautiful, quiet mountain home just minutes outside of Ridgway. Lysa and Don went out of their way to show us their home, provide hiking recommendations, make daily breakfast (which was incredible). Their dog is awesome too! I can't believe this place is not more expensive.
Lysa and Don were incredibly nice and thoughtful hosts, and their house was beautiful and cozy. The mountains surrounding their place are breathtaking! We were in the area for the Telluride Bluegrass Music Festival, it was a breeze commuting the few miles to Telluride. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to get away to picturesque Colorado. Oh yes, and they have a wonderfully sweet and playful yellow lab, and Lysa's breakfasts were spectacular, in case you need yet another reason to visit!
Thanks Lysa and Don, we loved staying with you :)
we were greeted warmly by Lysa and soon settled in to our upstairs room -views from the cozy front room are spectacular and even better in the hot tub on the back deck -we had a relaxing time and enjoyed the many conversation with Don and Lysa -the access to places was very cool
Everything was just as described. Lysa and Don were amazing hosts and their advice on where to hike and what to see was perfect. The breakfast made by Lisa was fantastic. I still can't stop thinking about her blueberry waffles. The room we stayed in was very well furnished and clean. The home was relaxing and peaceful. We really enjoyed the hot tub and bonfire.

About the Host, Elizabeth (Lysa) And Don
My husband & I are semi-retired and split our time between two residences. We are very active: skiing, biking, hiking, walking. We love the arts & enjoy the opera and theater in Tampa as well as museums. We are very social people and love to share our homes with new friends. Lysa (Elizabeth) is an adventurous cook, always looking for the next best recipe. Don loves to advise guests on what to see and do. It would be our pleasure to host you in the manner that suits, whether it be personal attentiveness or just letting you kick back and find your own way.
