About this listing
Come to our mountains and let us spoil you! A comfortable, quiet queen room with views of the San Juans. Come see why our guests rave about the views, especially from our hot tub at night. Locally sourced gourmet breakfast included.
Summer is in full-on sizzle in the San Juans! The snow-melt has provided an abundance of wildflowers, and the jeep and hiking trails are at their peak. This lovely timbered home is nestled at the foot of Log Hill Mesa at 7,000 ft. in the foothills of the dramatic San Juan Mountains, easily the most scenic area of Colorado. The home has 360 degree views of many fourteeners in the Cimarron Range and the Mt. Sneffels Range, plus lake and mesa views. The two available 2nd floor rooms are a queen and a somewhat larger room with twin beds and a private balcony. There is a private guest bath for each room and a guest laundry. This listing is for the Mexican Queen room. Check out our 2nd listing at: True Grit Rustic Retreat-Spruce Room.
You are 1/2 mi. to Ridgway State Park offering boating, fishing, swimming, biking and camping. Only 10 mins. to town, 20 mins. to the old mining town of Ouray, and 45 mins. to Telluride Ski Resort. There is abundant hiking, jeeping, horseback riding, snowshoeing and X-country skiing only minutes from your door. Visit the Chamber website at: (website hidden) for more things to do.
Our rustic western town (where the film "True Grit" was made!) offers many dining options, a small grocery, a fine library, antique and retail shops, plus the restored Sherbino Theater offering movies and live musical entertainment. Did you know that Ridgway is the home of the Grammy Awards? They are handcrafted right here in town, and you can tour their workshop! We also have our own liquor distillery/pub, Trail Town Still, and The Colorado Boy Brew Pub, an award-winning brewer. There are two hot springs very close by; one is clothing optional:) Entertainment opportunities are myriad as this is a very artsy-fartsy community.
Whether winter or summer, come to our mountains and let us spoil you!

Our experience staying with Don was great! Lysa was out of town, but all my communication prior to arrival was with her and she was always prompt with responses and super friendly.
Don was home to greet us upon arrival and show us around. Their home is lovely and the room is very nice and comfortable. There is a large bathroom just outside the bedroom that is awesome and they had shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion available for use. The views from the living room are spectacular!!
As promised, Don made us delicious breakfasts. We had quiche, homemade bread, fresh fruit, etc. It was the best:)
Don is friendly, smart, and interesting. We really enjoyed chatting with him during our stay. He gave us several great recommendations we really appreciated.
I highly recommend staying here!
Where to begin... the house is beautiful, the location is amazing and Lysa and Don are truly wonderful hosts! All the other 5 star reviews are spot on. Wonderful people, in an amazing home, smack dab in the middle of some of the most beautiful country anywhere.
Gourmet breakfasts greeted us each and everyday. Advice and assistance was willingly provided and always spot on. And Tristan, their yellow lab, is a great dog.
Don was there to great us with his dog Tristan! A very friendly and welcoming host. We felt very much at home right away!
We loved our getaway at the True Grit Rustic Mountain Retreat! Don and Lysa welcomed our family (pup included!) with great hospitality, and they were flexible with both our schedule and dietary needs. (Yummiest gluten-free muffins ever, Lysa!) We could not have been happier with the lodging, food, or location this retreat provided. We hope to return again!
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the True Grit Mountain Retreat for three nights recently. Don and Lysa are the perfect hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and felt like family in their beautiful, rustic but modern mountain home. The surrounding scenery was majestic. The breakfasts were outstanding in every way. The rooms were spotless and comfy with TV's to tempt you with the news of the world you left behind. Best of all were our hosts that were full of information about things to do, detailed maps and instructions on finding those things, and a real sense that they care and are wanting you to enjoy the mountains as much as they do. This was one of the best B&B experiences we've ever had - we will be back.
Lysa and Don are gracious and caring hosts. Their house is spacious and cozy, under a sea full of stars out in the open land in Colorado with great views of the Sneffles Mountain Range. We loved looking at the stars from the hot tub, and the breakfast was delicious!
Lysa and Don's place was amazing! Every bit as wonderful as advertised, and breakfast was delicious too!! The neighborhood is nice and quiet, scenery can't be beat, and Lysa and Don make it feel like home. I really enjoyed talking with you both, and hope to come back one day soon!!! Highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in the area!

About the Host, Elizabeth (Lysa) And Don
My husband & I are semi-retired and split our time between two residences. We are very active: skiing, biking, hiking, walking. We love the arts & enjoy the opera and theater in Tampa as well as museums. We are very social people and love to share our homes with new friends. Lysa (Elizabeth) is an adventurous cook, always looking for the next best recipe. Don loves to advise guests on what to see and do. It would be our pleasure to host you in the manner that suits, whether it be personal attentiveness or just letting you kick back and find your own way.
