Although we are snow-bound right now, we know spring is just around the corner & you do, too! This lovely timbered home is nestled at the foot of Log Hill Mesa at 7,000 ft. in the foothills of the dramatic San Juan Mountains, easily the most scenic area of Colorado. The home has 360 degree views of many fourteeners in the Cimarron Range and the Mt. Sneffels Range, plus lake and mesa views. The two available 2nd floor rooms are a queen and a somewhat larger room with twin beds and a private balcony. There is a private guest bath for each room and a guest laundry. This listing is for the Mexican Queen room. Check out our 2nd listing at: True Grit Rustic Retreat-Spruce Room.
You are 1/2 mi. to Ridgway State Park offering boating, fishing, swimming, biking and camping. Only 10 mins. to town, 20 mins. to the old mining town of Ouray, and 45 mins. to Telluride Ski Resort. There is abundant hiking, jeeping, horseback riding, snowshoeing and X-country skiing only minutes from your door. Visit the Chamber website at: (website hidden) for more things to do.
Our rustic western town (where the film "True Grit" was made!) offers many dining options, a small grocery, a fine library, antique and retail shops, plus the restored Sherbino Theater offering movies and live musical entertainment. Did you know that Ridgway is the home of the Grammy Awards? They are handcrafted right here in town, and you can tour their workshop! We also have our own liquor distillery/pub, Trail Town Still, and The Colorado Boy Brew Pub, an award-winning brewer. There are two hot springs very close by; one is clothing optional:) Entertainment opportunities are myriad as this is a very artsy-fartsy community.
Whether winter or summer, come to our mountains and let us spoil you!
Living and dining room, plus limited kitchen privileges (please see House Rules below). Baths on 1st and 2nd flr., outside decks and hot tub.
Interaction with Guests
As much as our guests would like! We are happy to provide advice on places to dine & visit.
Our neighborhood is very quiet and several of our neighbors have horses. The ranch to our west has cows and horses. The only sounds you will hear are the cattle lowing & the Mtn. Jays chattering;). A 35 acre field across our road is a perfect spot for snowshoeing or X-country skiing. Ride your bike 1/2 mile to the trail which takes you into town or into the State park.
No public transport.

Lysa and Don were amazing hosts. Their house is beautiful and they made us feel right at home during our stay. Breakfast was great and they always had excellent suggestions for local attractions.
What a spectacular home and setting! You were both so gracious and welcoming. I felt embraced by your kindness. The hot tub under the stars and fantastic breakfast were both exceptional. Very comfortable bed - loved those down pillows and the steam shower! I was there during the peak of the fall colors in the San Juan Mountains. The beauty left me speechless at times. I'd love to come back and stay longer next time. Elsie
This was such an amazing place to be. Our hosts Lysa and Don were so friendly and their dog Tristen was a bonus. We enjoyed the home feeling from the moment we arrived. The home is beautiful and so are the views. Lysa made a super wonderful breakfast for us and everything was perfect. The room was super cozy. This is a place we will return to.
Lysa and Don's place was just great! Fabulous surroundings, still close to town, great room, all super cosy and clean! And they are both very nice, warm people (including the dog), we were pampered like hotel guests. Thanks a lot!
Our time at True Grit Rustic Mountain Retreat was wonderful. Lysa and Don were such warm and welcoming hosts who shared their knowledge of sights to see and hikes to enjoy. Lysa's morning breakfast was an extra special treat. We hope to be back again to enjoy such a great place.
Lysa and Don were wonderful hosts. The house was beautiful and our room was very nice, exactly what was expected from the pictures and description. Breakfast in the morning was gourmet consisting of coffee, juice (if we wanted), fruit and a wonderful omelet with this delicious bread. Perfect to ready us for the long drive home.
Lysa and Don were the best host anyone could expect and had the warmest house for us. Our stay was extremely comfortable and pleasant. The house was wonderful and we loved the scenery and the outdoor patio. Lysa's morning breakfast was out of the world and the hospitality was exceptional. The house is very well planned to host guests and every little detail was well thought. The house was clean and quite. The host were very friendly and gave us lots of tips on things to do in the town and excellent places for dining. Their dog (Tristan) was very cute and kept us company in the outdoor patio. We loved playing catch with him.
Thanks Lysa and Don for a memorable stay at your house.

My husband & I are semi-retired and split our time between two residences. We are very active: skiing, biking, hiking, walking. We love the arts & enjoy the opera and theater in Tampa as well as museums. We are very social people and love to share our homes with new friends. Lysa (Elizabeth) is an adventurous cook, always looking for the next best recipe. Don loves to advise guests on what to see and do. It would be our pleasure to host you in the manner that suits, whether it be personal attentiveness or just letting you kick back and find your own way.
