"BONZA BAMBOO" hideaway is a huge 2 storey, 1 bedroom house (170㎡) with 2 balconies and multiple spaces to relax.
It is a secluded but conveniently located 167-acre bamboo farm in the north of the Byron Shire; 5 km from the Pacific Highway and 35 minutes to Gold Coast airport. Easy access to beaches, parks, Byron Bluesfest, Splendour in the Grass and Mullum Music Festival.
A truly unique place!

The space

The tropical garden atmosphere with giant bamboos and palm trees is the backdrop for our Asian inspired "Bali Building".
This hand crafted building is furnished with all sorts of wonderful things that we have made from bamboo and recycled materials; from lamps to tables to couches. You can relax on the 2nd storey verandah overlooking the bamboo plantation or get comfortable with a book on the generous bamboo couches downstairs.
Upstairs accommodation includes 1 large bedroom with a queen size bed in the main area and a cosy loft at one end with a double bed. The bedroom opens out onto a comfortable verandah overlooking the bamboo plantation with built in day beds for those wanting a relaxing, peaceful break.
Downstairs there's a spacious lounge room, a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, a bathroom with a shower and a separate toilet. There's another verandah off the kitchen area also overlooking the bamboo plantation. A great spot to relax and chat.
The hosts' living space and the original farmhouse is close by but still private.
There's a ceiling fan in the upstairs bedroom and we have several pedestal fans available for those extra hot days :)
We provide tea and coffee, bread, butter, a variety of spreads and muesli. For those who want to cook we'll provide the basic condiments and there will be seasonally fresh herbs from the garden.
We do not get mobile phone or TV reception on the property. Wireless Internet is available but can be "patchy" at times because of the distance we are from the Exchange. There is a TV and a DVD player if you wish to bring along your favourite movies or borrow some of ours :)
A torch would be handy if you are going out at night.

Guest access

Guests will have general access to the property as we are on 167 acres.

Interaction with guests

We are generally nearby and always available.

Other things to note

This is a rural property and access is from The Pocket Rd through our neighbour's cattle property on an unsealed road. The road is maintained regularly but can be damaged in spots after severe weather. It is passable in a conventional vehicle. In the interests of your vehicle and the maintenance of the road it is very important to drive slowly (no more than 20 kph) and look out for cows, calves and cow poo on the road. Occasionally gates will be closed between paddocks so please close them again after you have driven through.
Please note that we are not on town water; we provide filtered water for drinking and rain water for general use. We have a solar hot water system.
NB. Please follow directions on how to get here which I will email to you. GPS is not reliable in this area.

A secluded getaway in a convenient location. Lance and Carolyn's Bonza Bamboo is a character-filled, meticulously crafted 'house' in a tranquil setting. We were astonished at the obvious detail and thought that went into every part of this place. From the handcrafted furniture and finishes to the simple luxuries of quality coffee and muesli. It's the perfect place to unplug and relax, and we look forward to visiting again sometime.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Carolyn's place and were provided with a warm welcome. Communication with Carolyn was excellent and we were given detailed instructions on finding the property. On arrival, the house was spotlessly clean and breakfast essentials were provided. This is a very unique and beautiful property. We were astounded by the high quality of craftsmanship, furnishings and dedication that has gone into creating this beautiful house. This is a place that you don't need to leave and you could just enjoy the beauty of the house and the calm atmosphere. Should you choose to venture out, it is the perfect location for access to beautiful beaches and the hinterland area. The location is stunning being surrounded by nature and the wonderful bamboo plantation. People who enjoy a high level of craftsmanship would enjoy exploring the house and absorbing the ambiance. This property exceeded our expectations and we felt privileged that Carolyn and Lance have shared their special property.

Carolyn and Lance were fantastic and Bonza Bamboo was the relaxing escape that my partner and I were looking for. Set amongst a beautiful backdrop, the treehouse has everything you could need. It's also very close by to Byron Bay if you are looking for some restaurants or markets to visit. Carolyn and Lance were very friendly and accommodating to our needs and were happy to suggest some things to do in the local area. We are already planning our return trip.
