The bedroom has a small flat screen TV & queen size bed. The front sitting room has one couch day bed & one fold out futon to accommodate 2 people if necessary at extra charge. Second floor lanai with a terrific ocean view in this Spanish adobe two story home in the charming little beach town of La Conchita on the California Coast on Rincon Bay. Full breakfast available upstairs on the first morning of the stay (for guests staying three or more nights). Adults only, no pets please.

Guest Access

Guests have full access to the private meditation garden. They can use the Webber bar-b-que grill on the second floor veranda with permission from the owners. The can also have access to a washer and dryer as needed.

Interaction with Guests

The hosts have lived in the area for 12 years, are very active in the cultural community and are excellent guides to the best restaurants attractions and out of the way places that tourists often miss. They will provide as much or as little as individual guests like and /or need and are very sensitive to different tastes among their guests.

The Neighborhood

La Conchita is a get away from it all destination. There are no commercial businesses here. Groceries, restaurants & other facilities can be found 3 miles north of LC in Carpinteria . La Conchita is right near the famous Rincon surfing beach and the harbor seal viewing area of the Carpinteria bluffs, the home is located 15 miles south of Santa Barbara and 15 miles North of Ventura CA. Just 40 minutes north of Malibu and about an hour and half to LA. There is so much to see and do in Carpinteria ( 3 miles away), Santa Barbara and Ventura you will not even want to think about LA and the traffic! La Conchita boasts a lush unique micro climate like Hawaii. It is a botanical wonderland and over the Santa Ynez Mountains is Lake Casitas and the beautiful town of Ojai, not to be missed! This will be a California dream vacation to be remembered and you will be back. Highway 101 is undergoing some major construction at this time, so guests may anticipate a few detours along the way.

Getting around

A car is absolutely necessary in this part of CA. Navigation is pretty easy. Everything is oriented on highway 101 or PCH the old Pacific Coast Highway where the highway still runs pretty close to the ocean. In Santa Barbara & our little beach town of Carpinteria just 3 miles North over the Santa Barbara County line there are trolleys that will take you around town. Parking is a joy in Ventura, Santa Barbara , Carpinteria & Ojai. Public Parking is either free for a certain amount of time downtown and then at a nominal cost per hour or totally free in Ventura, Ojai & Carp. That's why the downtown areas are lively after dark and thriving!

Other Things to Note

Your host is the historian of this area and along with two other educators has published a book about the unique history of the three beach towns along this stretch of the coast. There are indeed many very interesting stories she has to tell for those who are interested.

  • Bonnie and Bill were amazing! They were so friendly and down to earth. Their home is beautiful and peaceful. We had everything we needed. They even put snacks and soft drinks in the apartment for us and Bill gave us some fresh squeezed orange juice from their orange tree.

My husband and I live in LA and this getaway was everything we expected and more. A quiet environment right across the street from the beach in a clean and comfortable apartment with fantastic hosts. We can't wait to go again!!!

  • Bill and bonnie are warm, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. They have lots of good advice about places of interest and restaurants to try. A stocked mini fridge with fresh ground coffee, drinks and light breakfast choices await your arrival. They even make you orange juice squeezed fresh from the tree right outside the door! If you stay 3 nights, Bill cooks breakfast.  He's a great cook! You are steps away to the gorgeous and very serene beach accessible by the newly built breezeway. Thank you Bonnie and Bill!

  • We had a great time staying with Bill and Bonnie! It was a short stay but we enjoyed getting to know them and learning about the area. The apartment is great and was such a relaxing space to be in. Thank you so much for hosting us!!!

  • Bonnie was great about providing directions and showing us around, as well as accommodating our late arrival. Her place was fantastic - a melange of cross-cultural art and decor. The only thing we could have hoped any more for was a dining table to some place to sit down and eat, but otherwise, it was a really gorgeous place to stay.

  • Staying with Bonnie and Bill (B&B!) was a wonderful experience. I picked it because it was half-way between Santa Barbara and Ventura which made it easy to explore both areas. We were given a lot of useful info on where to go and how best to get around by the hosts. The place was amazing - lots of art and books which meant always something to browse through and admire. We were even given fresh squeezed orange juice from the tree in the mediation garden (what a way to start the day!). This was a fantastic mini-vacation for us and I really appreciate the care Bonnie and Bill put into their hosting. Thanks again!

  • It was such a pleasure to say with Bonnie and Bill, view their beautiful home and garden, and learn about the rich history of La Conchita. The stay was very short but the guest apartment was lovely and filled with fascinating treasures! I looked forward to returning! Bonnie and Bill were incredibly gracious hosts and, like so many of the other reviews, I felt spoiled by their hospitality. Wether you stay for a night or a week, they'll make sure you know how to find the best beach views, restaurants, or federally protected seal overlook! A great stay with so much history, nature, and learning. Absolutely loved it.

    Response from Bonnie:

Thanks so much Anastasia. We really appreciate the review. Bill & I work hard to give our guests a unique experience, but want them to feel at home too. We love sharing our little place in paradise with newcomers.

  • Our stay was a wonderful experience. Bonnie and Bill shared a wealth of knowledge about La Conchita, the way to get to secret beaches, places to eat, and the local history. We had scrumptious waffles with strawberries and whip cream for breakfast. We saw the turtle in the pond. We watched the NFC and AFC football championship games on an amazing HD widescreen TV. Loved our visit and the conversations with our hosts. You will not be disappointed. Like one other reviewer said, they spoil you.

  • This was my first Airbnb experience and I'm afraid that Bonnie and Bill may have spoiled me for anywhere else. They are extremely gracious and helpful hosts, providing the perfect amount of interaction and privacy. The first morning was wonderful - delicious waffles, great conversations, lots of suggestions on things to do and see. The home is beautiful and comfortable. The week went way too fast and I'm looking forward to returning next year :)

My husband Bill & I, after years of hard work, were lucky enough to land in paradise! I am a retired University Art History Professor and University Museum Director who has held positions at three great institutions over a thirty year career. They were: Miami University, The College of William & Mary, and University of California, Santa Barbara. I am also a cancer survivor who has learned how to appreciate life. I now do art consulting, but my real love is making art and jewelry along with my husband Bill who is a sculptor. The historical research & writing bug never left me, however, which is why I threw myself into documenting the history of my community once I realized that nobody knew about it. I co-authored a history of the area entitled: Greater Carpinteria, Summerland, and, La Conchita. The book is available through Amazon and Arcadia Publications. I attended Buffalo State University College, Bowling Green University and The Ohio State University. You can learn more about me by visiting my websites: (website hidden) and (website hidden) Bill is a practicing sculptor of 50 odd years working in all the major media but concentrating mostly on wooden constructs using repurposed materials and the endless supply of driftwood from the LaConchita beach.  Examples of his art are part of the art collection on display in and around Casa Makai including the guest apartment, a stone pond, garden shed, and signature wreath on the street facade .  His work featuring many functional pieces like tables, chairs lamps and bowls are created in the garage/studio. He attended Bishop Noll HS, Hammond, Ind; Loras College, Dubuque, IA; The Art Institute Chicago ; Mexico City College; Ohio State University. In addition he has an active business carving Ice Sculpture for the SoCal catering and party market and owns the patent for a massage tool. His creativity extends to exploits in the kitchen to the delight of our guests. Our home, known as Casa Makai, is one large art gallery. We have a complete guest apartment with a full bath, kitchenette and library/livingroom that we make available to family and friends. Bill & I also love to travel and have been all over the U.S, parts of Central America, Western Europe and Asia.
