About this listing
How would you like to experience historic New Orleans from the eyes of a local in a gorgeous award winning home that constantly smells like cupcakes?
Then this incredible space is just for you. You will be staying above a fifth generation family owned bakery. The second floor of the building consists of several condos where the extended family of the owner lives. They range in age from 18 to 60, so all are welcome! The private apartment consists of one bedroom and a living/dining room with a convertable sleeper queen sofa. A private bath and microwave kitchen area with mini-fridge are also in the apartment. You will have a private set of keys and code access to the front door. There is a huge common area with pool table, fooshball, and great view of St. Charles Avenue outside your door. Free laundry facilities are down the hall.
5 minute walk to all areas - French Quarter, Superdome, Convention Center, Casino and numerous restaurants, museums and galleries. On street car line to Garden District, universities, Audubon Park and connecting lines to City Park and the Fairgrounds where the Jazz Fest is held.
We look very forward to having you and if you're interested I'd be happy to give you a tour of the bakery downstairs, just arrive on an empty stomach!
We ask that the common area becomes quiet around 10pm since we are bakers and early risers. Additional cost for more than two guests but can be waived for children under 18. But of course, in life, everything is negotiable.
Great location, charming space, delicious confectioneries. Everything you need, just know you'll be doing dishes in the bathroom sink. And you will be able to drink a beverage while looking out on St Charles Ave, it just will be in the commons area and not your room. But we pretty much had free and solitary reign of the commons area. Totally worth it. Thank you, Laurent!
Such a great place to stay! Laurent and his family truly make you feel at home. They provided us with great suggestions for places to eat and things to see. The location was close enough to walk anywhere (french quarter, harrahs etc.) I definitely would stay there again! Thank you for the wonderful hospitality!
the Listing was exactly how it looks, completely awesome and Laurent is the man, it is only a 10 minute walk to bourbon st. and there is a grocery store two blocks away, the whole experience was seamless
This was a terrific space that met all my needs. It truly is just a 5 minute walk to the convention center or to the French Quarter. I was welcomed with lovely little pastry cakes. The space was well laid out and entrance was easy. The claw foot tub/shower was great, although it might be hard to manage for a guest who is somewhat large.
Highly recommended but better for a couple than just a single woman. The neighborhood is safe but being in the central business district was a little under-populated at night. I just took cabs or pedi-cabs at night, which was not expensive. The coffee shop down the street (Between the Bread) made great espresso drinks and sandwiches.
I only met Laurent a couple of times but he always asked how our volleyball team was doing and made sure I had anything I needed. I will come back!
Second time staying at Laurent's, fantastic as before. Great location and value, very comfortable amenities.
This place was great! Just a quick walk to get to the French Quarter and the Street car comes right out front. Easy to get in and out of! Laurent was a great host and was very accomodating even though we checked in past midnight! The confectionary he runs downstairs is also cool. The place itself has a lot of character and was much better than staying in some hotel.
Thanks for letting us stay and for the treats!
Laurent was a great host. He was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Great location. Don't hesitate, if it is available book it.
About the Host, Laurent
As a fourth generation baker and owner of my family's business, I am anxiously awaiting my youngest daughter's graduation from college to join the business. I hold a BS in math from LSU and finished my education at the American Institute of Baking in 1976. I am happily single with 3 adult children who are in and out of my house all the time.
Born and raised here, I enjoy sharing my love for New Orleans with visitors or happy to let you find your own way. I spend most of my time in French Quarter and Bywater Bars, and eating in my favorite local places. The Saints are my biggest passion. New Orleans lifestyle and good friends take up the rest of my time. WHO DAT!
