Great location with beautiful views that cant be beat.Basic room with fan and a bit of hot water, communal kitchen has all basic kitchen needs with the exception of a freezer. Quiet and relaxing, fairly easy to find, would recommend a 4x4 to make the trip further down the dirt road to the river and waterfalls(amazing). Stop at the fruit stands and grocery on your way in.
Right away, I have to say how ideal and lovely the property is. However, one thing where our planning failed us; We had booked this as our first time to go to Envision music festival. This location is much too far/dangerous to get to and from a festival. That was a mistake on our part. That being said we did get the car stuck up the the steep, steep driveway multiple times.
It is paved, but NOT the only paved driveway on San Juan de Dias: there is one right before. (This confused us & caused our accident.) Pedro, the caretaker & so much more, was there for us any second we needed help: from getting our car unstuck to driving us to the music festival to every day tips... Pedro was our man. He is one of a kind & brings so much much positive, loving energy into the Valley of Dreams. He made the stay so so much more accommodating and relaxing. He really is something special. Despite these minor details, the property and people were magnificent~so worth every second! We had trouble finding the house because there weren't specific directions we are accustomed to nowadays. I immediately mentioned two minor potential improvement. Immediately, Morgan ( one of the owners) responded kindly and addressed these issues. (There is a Valley of Dreams website for this air b&b, which I was completely unaware of!!! -- (website hidden) ) Heads up! If you ever have trouble finding the place, you can type in your GPS Policia de Platanillo & the property is 3 minutes from this locations.
You have your own cabina with beautiful jungle views and hammock on the porch. You have a bed and bathroom with hot water and fan. You then also have access to the main kitchen and all alliances including refrigerator and cooking. There is laundry and a small pool with views to die for!!!
P.S. We assumed GI was at the location. However, Pedro was who we dealt with immediately.
all in all Pedro made our pura vida experience
Our host, Pedro, was amazing! Helped with taxis and gave us great advice for the local areas about restaurants, stores etc. It seems like he knows almost everybody!
Description was accurate and the room we stayed in was intimate and romantic! A very quant single room with private bathroom built on a beautiful jungle hillside away from the main house/common area. Hot showers as long as no one else is running water. If you don't know, hot showers are kinda a big deal if you're in Costa Rica for us visitors. WiFi doesn't quite reach the private rooms but is accessible in the common area and courtyard.
The neighborhood is up a hillside which is very secluded and may be difficult to get up and down without a car. At the bottom of the mountain is a bus stop that can get you just about anywhere you need to go with a couple transfers. Luckily for us we had help from the other house guests who had rented a car and would sometimes give us rides since we did not rent a car of our own. Taxi to the closest beach from the house, Dominical, one-way runs you about $24 or 12 mil colones. Further up the mountain, after a short hike, is a waterfall which was absolutely majestic (ask Pedro for location). You get to fall asleep to the sounds of nature. Maybe see a monkey :) For food, the kitchen (located in the common area) is fully stocked with all appliances you'll need (except a freezer) which is convenient if you choose not to rent a car. A few kilometers away is a grocery store and there are various restaurants up and down the mountain as well.
