Stunning Burren Farmhouse, sleeps 8

House - Entire home/apt · Oaghty, Kilfenora, Clare, Ireland

The Space

'Burren Farm Cottages' offers accommodations in two separate self catering cottages, just 2.5 miles from the village of Kilfenora in County Clare, adjacent to the world famous Burren Region, with its spectacular landscape and rare plant life.

'The Old Farmhouse' is located on our family run dairy farm in the heart of the Irish countryside, while the other cottage, 'Green Meadows', is less than a mile from our family farm.

These self catering accommodations are suitable for people seeking peace and tranquillity, but also families with children. The children are welcome to take part in milking the cows, or to collect the breakfast eggs.

The area is peaceful and relaxing, but within easy reach of a wide variety of amenities and attractions. We provide information folders and the Jim Robinson map in each cottage.

From Kilfenora, you can drive right through the heart of the Burren to the Aillwee Cave and Ballyvaughan. From there you can follow the coast road via the beaches of Fanore to the fishing village of Doolin, famous for it's traditional Irish music sessions and day trips to the Aran Islands. Not to be missed, just south of Doolin, are the Cliffs of Moher and a couple of miles on, you will arrive in Lahinch with it's beautiful beach and championship golf course. Carry on to Corofin and from there back to Kilfenora and you have never been more than 10 miles away from Kilfenora village.

If you like fishing, Lickeen Lake is nearby as is Inchiquin Lake at Corofin. And again, within a less than 10 mile radius, you have the whole Atlantic coastline to your disposal.

In the evenings you can enjoy traditional Irish music and set dancing in Kilfenora and we'll be happy to teach you a few steps, so you can join in yourself.

On arrival, you are welcomed with home baking and you are always welcome to visit our home for a cup of tea and a chat.

Looking forward to seeing you!

The Burren Farm Cottages are situated on the edge of the world famous Burren region, which is an unspoiled part of Ireland. Here in the Burren, the bare exposed limestone which is up to 780 metres in thickness, covers an area of 250 square kilometres. Great slabs of rock are almost as flat and undisturbed as they were when they were formed in the warm shallow seas of the Carboniferous ocean 340 million years ago. The Burren does not mean barren; people have settled here since Stone Age times. Evidence of their habitations and tombs are all around you.
The unusual flora of the Burren has attracted huge interest and attention over the years. Rare and spectacular plants grow in abundance throughout this unique limestone region. Unusual butterflies and moths feed on the flora and the hazel scrub. Pine forests give cover to the larger animals including Pine Marten.

  • Our stay at the Barry's farmhouse in Kilfenora was truly outstanding. It was the highlight our visit to Ireland. Marian and Martin were gracious hosts and taught our children a it about farm life such as milking and a pair of bovine twins were born during our stay. The farm dog, Buddy, is also delightful! The house itself is absolutely marvelous. It almost exudes peace and comfort. The location was excellent as well. The Barry's farm prove and excellent staging area for explorations of Counties Clare, Galway and Derry. The Barry's have our most highest recommendation and if we are able to return to Ireland, this is where we will stay.

  • We loved it.

Plenty of room and privacy for each of us three couples.

    Beautiful house and scenery.

But best of all were Martin and Marian. They were SO friendly and helpful, going the second mile by offering us FREE milk and eggs and fantastic Irish soda bread, plus peat for the fire.

I cannot recommend this house enough. You will not regret it.

My wife and I were with the McDermotts and we say AMEN! to the comments above from Gerald McDermott. Both Marian and Martin have a gift of making their guests feel at home. Marian's hospitality and Martin's hilarity warmed our hearts. They were a genuine introduction to the kindness and helpfulness that we experienced elsewhere during our days in Ireland. I hope that they will someday visit us in the U.S.

  • I cannot brag enough about Martin and Marian Barry and their home on the farm. We feel as though we have a new Irish family. They took such good care of us, and our children (3 and 5). Our boys milked a cow, gathered eggs for breakfast, rode in a tractor, and even witnessed a baby calf being born! These are all experiences that show what good hosts the Barrys are.

The home is clean, comfortable, and convenient to everything. The fireplace is great, and the rooms are spacious, and more than enough for our family of 4 plus our mother. The Barrys make sure you have everything you need and advise you on how to get there. Martin even took us to a pub in Doolin where we got to here stories about his life, while having a pint! We had a lot of laughs with him.

Please do yourself a favor and stay with them. This experience is one we will remember forever. When we left we were very sad. Our kids wanted to stay and live on the farm.

Some great places within a short drive are Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, the Perfumery, many castles and small towns. I cannot say enough about the Barrys. They are good, honest people, that work very hard to make sure you have a nice stay. We even met their daughter Edele who is lovely as well. We cannot wait for our next visit.

  • We could not have been more pleased with our stay at the Barry's! Marian met us in town, which was very helpful after our travels! Martin took time during his milking chores to explain a bit about the farm and let us assist. We had several questions over the course of our stay and Marion made sure we got everything figured out with much graciousness.
The house is delightful and well equipped for a far larger group than the two of us.

  • Wonderful people. Everything exactly as advertised. Be sure to drive the 5 miles to the Burren walking paths. We had a great relaxing experience.

  • Marian and Martin are lovely people and their farmhouse is a wonderful and cozy place. Our family of four stayed at the farmhouse for a week and toured the Burren extensively.. it is a perfect location for those who are visiting Ireland and want to tour the Burren yet never be too far from home and a warm evening fire. Kilfenora, where the farm house is located is a charming little Irish town, two pubs, great music, and still only a few minutes drive from Doolin (similarly famous for music), sea trips to the Aran Islands (don't miss it), and countless ruins and other antiquity. I highly recommend Martin and Marian as your hosts, and assure you that you will be pleased beyond measure with their hospitality, the home, and the surroundings. And, if you like, Martin will gladly accept your help milking the cows which was a fun experience for us city folk.

  • We had a great stay in the Burren farmhouse. Marian and Martin were wonderful and we learned a lot around the farm. The baby cows were adorable and Buddy the dog was always there to greet us when we went outside or returned for the day. Marian made us some fresh scones and supplied us with peat to make a cozy fire. There was tons of space in the house and it was in a great location- the local town was small but had a fun pub and barn for set dancing, and a few larger towns were just a short car ride away, with lots of restaurant selection. We were very close to the ocean and the Cliffs of Moher, and made it up to Galway city in just about an hour. The Burren was beautiful and we just wish we had more time to explore the area. Hopefully we will be able to make it back again someday! Thanks again Marian and Martin.

About
Hi, we're Marian and Martin, we have our own Dairy farm here in Kilfenora Co. Clare. When we're not milking cows, we're set dancing or walking in the Burren. We love traditional music, baking bread, socializing with wonderful friends and local characters. We also love natural history and local heritage, and are keen to share this with our visitors.
