'Burren Farm Cottages' offers accommodations in two separate self catering cottages, just 2.5 miles from the village of Kilfenora in County Clare, adjacent to the world famous Burren Region, with its spectacular landscape and rare plant life.
'The Old Farmhouse' is located on our family run dairy farm in the heart of the Irish countryside, while the other cottage, 'Green Meadows', is less than a mile from our family farm.
These self catering accommodations are suitable for people seeking peace and tranquillity, but also families with children. The children are welcome to take part in milking the cows, or to collect the breakfast eggs.
The area is peaceful and relaxing, but within easy reach of a wide variety of amenities and attractions. We provide information folders and the Jim Robinson map in each cottage.
From Kilfenora, you can drive right through the heart of the Burren to the Aillwee Cave and Ballyvaughan. From there you can follow the coast road via the beaches of Fanore to the fishing village of Doolin, famous for it's traditional Irish music sessions and day trips to the Aran Islands. Not to be missed, just south of Doolin, are the Cliffs of Moher and a couple of miles on, you will arrive in Lahinch with it's beautiful beach and championship golf course. Carry on to Corofin and from there back to Kilfenora and you have never been more than 10 miles away from Kilfenora village.
If you like fishing, Lickeen Lake is nearby as is Inchiquin Lake at Corofin. And again, within a less than 10 mile radius, you have the whole Atlantic coastline to your disposal.
In the evenings you can enjoy traditional Irish music and set dancing in Kilfenora and we'll be happy to teach you a few steps, so you can join in yourself.
On arrival, you are welcomed with home baking and you are always welcome to visit our home for a cup of tea and a chat.
Looking forward to seeing you!
Martin & Marian Barry
The Burren Farm Cottages are situated on the edge of the world famous Burren region, which is an unspoiled part of Ireland. Here in the Burren, the bare exposed limestone which is up to 780 metres in thickness, covers an area of 250 square kilometres. Great slabs of rock are almost as flat and undisturbed as they were when they were formed in the warm shallow seas of the Carboniferous ocean 340 million years ago. The Burren does not mean barren; people have settled here since Stone Age times. Evidence of their habitations and tombs are all around you.
The unusual flora of the Burren has attracted huge interest and attention over the years. Rare and spectacular plants grow in abundance throughout this unique limestone region. Unusual butterflies and moths feed on the flora and the hazel scrub. Pine forests give cover to the larger animals including Pine Marten.
On arrival We meet our guests in the local village and bring them to the cottage. We are living close to The Old Farmhouse and just over a mile from Green Meadows. We are always available to chat with our guests and answer any questions they may have.
Our guests should experience peace and quiet in our neighbourhood. It is an ideal location for walking.
A car is essential.
During July and August we only let the cottages from Saturday to Saturday and charge a weekly rate.
Fantastic stay with this lovely family! It was such a pleasure to stay on this farm and experience the dairy business and get to know Martin, Marion and Buddy. It was great having our own little home. Martin was kind enough to allow us to watch him bring the cows in and do the milking. We learned so much and got to make an attempt at milking. Martin was very warm and seemed to enjoy talking with us. We enjoyed eating at Vaughan's, a pub, in the little town of Kilfenora. One night we tried out step dancing, with Martin's great encouragement and patience! We highly recommend a stay here!
What can I say other than our stay at Marian and Martin's farmhouse was absolutely perfect. The location is great and the landscape is beautiful. It is near the Cliffs of Moher, Poulnabrone, golf courses (we went to the seaside town of Kilkee), the towns of Doolin and Ennis, and many other areas that travellers can easily drive to. Marian and Martin are such lovely people. We really enjoyed talking with them and learning more about their country and their working farm. We would recommend this listing to anyone visiting Ireland and will most certainly book again if we plan another trip in the future.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay at Marian and Martin's Farmhouse. The hosts are delightfully sweet people, and the home-made scones from Marian's kitchen were delicious. The house itself is spacious, yet cozy. We especially enjoyed the fireplace and the washer/dryer. The location is perfect for visiting the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin's music scene, and more! I highly recommend this listing, and I hope that we can visit again sometime in the future.
If you go to Ireland an dont book with these people you have made a mistake!!! Martin and Marian are two of the greatest people in the world not just Ireland! Their daughter Edel was just as great as they were! There is not words to describe how well they treated us! I mean they even arranged a cuckoo to sound off the last morning we were there!!!!! LOL Being on their farm was great! Fresh eggs Scones advise on places to visit. They had it all! Just sitting down and talking to them and learning the ways of Ireland was worth the whole trip! Martin made me laugh so much! Just Great!!! They took us step dancing which was a new experience to see even if I did not try it but Judy did and just had a wonderful time learning how to do it from Martin. The stories they told of their families and history was so interesting. Helping Edel milk the cow by being the "gate" was fun also. It was so great to see young people working hard lnstead of being inside playing video games. Edel is a very hard worker and Marian And Martin have every right to be proud of her and all their children. Again we cant stress enough how wonderful of a place and how great they are to their guest. Judy and I feel not only have we made some great new friends but have add them as new members into our family with the Barrys.
We feel so fortunate to have stayed at Marian and Martin's place. The house is immaculately clean, spacious, and well appointed. It is located in a beautiful setting a short drive from the town center. Most of all, Marian and Martin were amazing hosts - so warm and friendly to us. Our kids, ages 4 and 6, followed them around much of the day watching the cows milked, riding on the tractor, gathering eggs from the hens, and playing with Buddy the dog. We wished we could've stayed longer and felt like we were leaving family behind. We sincerely hope to come back and could not more highly recommend others to (email hidden).
Our stay with Marian and Martin was wonderful!! The farmhouse was clean and cozy. The perfect peaceful getaway. Martin showed us how to milk the cows and Marian gave us fresh baked bread and fresh eggs to make breakfast. I would definitely stay with them again. Lovely people!!
We had a great familly holiday. Marian and Martin where fantastic hosts. The stunning Burren Farmhouse which was clean, cosy, comfortable and it lived up to its name it was... Stunning. My 11 year old son Kes had the time of his life and now wants to return to Ireland as soon as possible to become a farmer.. We loved the scone's,milk and egg's which gave us the ultimate farm feeling. We hope to one day return to this beautiful part of Ireland.
If you would like to have the real farming experience please stay with Marian and Martin . The cottage is great and is next door to them . They are lovely people, warm and friendly, enjoy exchanging stories and have a real working farm. We also went set dancing with them which was a great experience
Our time visiting with Marion and Martin Barry was like visiting with family! They have a lovely home and our family will never forget the time we spent and the memories we made in Ireland! Our boys, age 6 & 9, could not get enough of the farm animals and helping out on the farm each day. We highly recommend booking this home for your vacation. The house and farm were a great location for visiting all the amazing sites in County Clare and the surrounding area. You will not be disappointed.
Our stay at the Barry's farmhouse in Kilfenora was truly outstanding. It was the highlight our visit to Ireland. Marian and Martin were gracious hosts and taught our children a it about farm life such as milking and a pair of bovine twins were born during our stay. The farm dog, Buddy, is also delightful! The house itself is absolutely marvelous. It almost exudes peace and comfort. The location was excellent as well. The Barry's farm prove and excellent staging area for explorations of Counties Clare, Galway and Derry. The Barry's have our most highest recommendation and if we are able to return to Ireland, this is where we will stay.
