'Burren Farm Cottages' offers accommodations in two separate self catering cottages, just 2.5 miles from the village of Kilfenora in County Clare, adjacent to the world famous Burren Region, with its spectacular landscape and rare plant life.
'The Old Farmhouse' is located on our family run dairy farm in the heart of the Irish countryside, while the other cottage, 'Green Meadows', is less than a mile from our family farm.
These self catering accommodations are suitable for people seeking peace and tranquillity, but also families with children. The children are welcome to take part in milking the cows, or to collect the breakfast eggs.
The area is peaceful and relaxing, but within easy reach of a wide variety of amenities and attractions. We provide information folders and the Jim Robinson map in each cottage.
From Kilfenora, you can drive right through the heart of the Burren to the Aillwee Cave and Ballyvaughan. From there you can follow the coast road via the beaches of Fanore to the fishing village of Doolin, famous for it's traditional Irish music sessions and day trips to the Aran Islands. Not to be missed, just south of Doolin, are the Cliffs of Moher and a couple of miles on, you will arrive in Lahinch with it's beautiful beach and championship golf course. Carry on to Corofin and from there back to Kilfenora and you have never been more than 10 miles away from Kilfenora village.
If you like fishing, Lickeen Lake is nearby as is Inchiquin Lake at Corofin. And again, within a less than 10 mile radius, you have the whole Atlantic coastline to your disposal.
In the evenings you can enjoy traditional Irish music and set dancing in Kilfenora and we'll be happy to teach you a few steps, so you can join in yourself.
On arrival, you are welcomed with home baking and you are always welcome to visit our home for a cup of tea and a chat.
Looking forward to seeing you!
Martin & Marian Barry
The Burren Farm Cottages are situated on the edge of the world famous Burren region, which is an unspoiled part of Ireland. Here in the Burren, the bare exposed limestone which is up to 780 metres in thickness, covers an area of 250 square kilometres. Great slabs of rock are almost as flat and undisturbed as they were when they were formed in the warm shallow seas of the Carboniferous ocean 340 million years ago. The Burren does not mean barren; people have settled here since Stone Age times. Evidence of their habitations and tombs are all around you.
The unusual flora of the Burren has attracted huge interest and attention over the years. Rare and spectacular plants grow in abundance throughout this unique limestone region. Unusual butterflies and moths feed on the flora and the hazel scrub. Pine forests give cover to the larger animals including Pine Marten.

Other Things to Note
During July and August we only let the cottages from Saturday to Saturday and charge a weekly rate.
As this is a working dairy farm, while we welcome families and love showing people around our farm, however we ask you to be of mindful of the environment. It's a great way to show visitors milking cows, feeding calves, collecting eggs and the stunning scenery, but please be careful of machinery whilst you're here.
The farmhouse is a precious family home, and we take great pride in keeping it beautiful for visitors, we would appreciate you doing the same!
Oil fired central heating and electricity are both charged at cost and are metered. Payments for these are taken on departure.
Spent 3 nights and wish we had planned to stay longer. We really enjoyed our time in this very comfy home. There was plenty of room and everything was just perfect. If you travel to or around Ireland and do not stay here you are making a mistake! Thank you Marion and Martin!
Our experience in the farm was lovely, although it was a bit difficult to get there, the experience and, above all, the hosts, worth it. The place was peaceful and the house big enough for 6 adults and a baby. Plus they provided us with a cot and a baby chair as well. You could see the animals and also have fresh milk and eggs! The village is very nice and if you are lucky and stay on the weekend can also attend to the dancing night which is highly recommendable and you get to know the great and real Ireland. The hosts are the most lovely people we have ever meet, always keen for a chat and The experience in general was totally recomendable!!
I'm not sure what else to say that has not been said already about this place. Visiting Martin and Marian was like returning to a home we didn't know we had before we arrived.
The farmhouse itself was comfortable, bright, welcoming, had beautiful views, and quite spacious. It's in close proximity to all the incredible views and natural sights county Clare has to offer. We had an infant along and there was everything there we could need (cot, high chair, etc)
Despite all these great amenities, the hospitality was still the best part. This couple will leave you be if you want your space, or will welcome you into their home and way of life and treat you like family. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, and made many memories we'll cherish for years to come.
Hopefully, until the next time. I can't imagine a trip to Ireland without a stay in Kilfenora.
a magical experience. great location for exploring clare--- up to galway, the burren, the coast, the aran islands, and down to limerick. the farmhouse itself was comfortable--- 4 adults each with their own bedroom, well appointed kitchen and family room with fireplace. hosts are, as everyone has noted , wonderful, lots of stories if you want, welcoming, fresh farm eggs and milking; and a soulful dog, Buddy.
Marian and Martin were wonderful hosts. The cottage was perfect for our family. It was clean and spacious and had the amenities needed for our 6 day stay. They provided the perfect balance between giving us privacy and being around for support if we needed it. The area was perfect for exploring the beauties of the west coast and land surrounding the cottage was beautiful in itself. Marian and Martin were even able to teach us a little bit of Traditional Irish Set Dancing and expose us to some traditional Irish music providing us with a travel experience we definitely wouldn't have gotten if we stayed at a hotel. There were no negatives with our stay. Thanks again and we'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Fantastic stay with this lovely family! It was such a pleasure to stay on this farm and experience the dairy business and get to know Martin, Marion and Buddy. It was great having our own little home. Martin was kind enough to allow us to watch him bring the cows in and do the milking. We learned so much and got to make an attempt at milking. Martin was very warm and seemed to enjoy talking with us. We enjoyed eating at Vaughan's, a pub, in the little town of Kilfenora. One night we tried out step dancing, with Martin's great encouragement and patience! We highly recommend a stay here!

Hi, we're Marian and Martin, we have our own Dairy farm here in Kilfenora Co. Clare. When we're not milking cows, we're set dancing or walking in the Burren. We love traditional music, baking bread, socializing with wonderful friends and local characters. We also love natural history and local heritage, and are keen to share this with our visitors.
