About this listing

The space

'Burren Farm Cottages' offers accommodations in two separate self catering cottages, just 2.5 miles from the village of Kilfenora in County Clare, adjacent to the world famous Burren Region, with its spectacular landscape and rare plant life.

'The Old Farmhouse' is located on our family run dairy farm in the heart of the Irish countryside, while the other cottage, 'Green Meadows', is less than a mile from our family farm.

These self catering accommodations are suitable for people seeking peace and tranquility, but also families with children. The children are welcome to take part in milking the cows, or to collect the breakfast eggs.

The area is peaceful and relaxing, but within easy reach of a wide variety of amenities and attractions. We provide information folders and the Jim Robinson map in each cottage.

From Kilfenora, you can drive right through the heart of the Burren to the Aillwee Cave and Ballyvaughan. From there you can follow the coast road via the beaches of Fanore to the fishing village of Doolin, famous for it's traditional Irish music sessions and day trips to the Aran Islands. Not to be missed, just south of Doolin, are the Cliffs of Moher and a couple of miles on, you will arrive in Lahinch with it's beautiful beach and championship golf course. Carry on to Corofin and from there back to Kilfenora and you have never been more than 10 miles away from Kilfenora village.

If you like fishing, Lickeen Lake is nearby as is Inchiquin Lake at Corofin. And again, within a less than 10 mile radius, you have the whole Atlantic coastline to your disposal.

In the evenings you can enjoy traditional Irish music and set dancing in Kilfenora and we'll be happy to teach you a few steps, so you can join in yourself.

On arrival, you are welcomed with home baking and you are always welcome to visit our home for a cup of tea and a chat.

Looking forward to seeing you!

The Burren Farm Cottages are situated on the edge of the world famous Burren region, which is an unspoiled part of Ireland. Here in the Burren, the bare exposed limestone which is up to 780 metres in thickness, covers an area of 250 square kilometres. Great slabs of rock are almost as flat and undisturbed as they were when they were formed in the warm shallow seas of the Carboniferous ocean 340 million years ago. The Burren does not mean barren; people have settled here since Stone Age times. Evidence of their habitations and tombs are all around you.
The unusual flora of the Burren has attracted huge interest and attention over the years. Rare and spectacular plants grow in abundance throughout this unique limestone region. Unusual butterflies and moths feed on the flora and the hazel scrub. Pine forests give cover to the larger animals including Pine Marten.

Marian and Martin were incredibly welcoming to their amazing farm. We had such a lovely time. An absolutely perfect place to escape to the country and totally relax. The house was perfect for 2 families and lots of kids. A big open fire and homemade scones were waiting for us on arrival and both Marian and Martin did everything possible to make us feel so welcome. It's the perfect location to discover The Burren and c couple of mins drive to Kilfenora which has some great pubs and shops.

We had a lovely 3 nights in the cottage. the space was well suited to our family group and having 3 bathrooms and ample seating and dining meant the large party could be easily accommodated. There were plenty of towels and the house was nice and clean. Marian made us very welcome on arrival and the kids enjoyed seeing the cows come in for milking. The fresh milk was appreciated by all. We'll located in the Burren it is a good cottage for family holidays and I'd recommend it.

We had a wonderful stay at the Farmhouse. It has a spacious living area, has four clean comfortable bedrooms, three bathrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, a nice view over a valley and very friendly hosts. We were with six adults and two children (almost 2 and almost 4). Marian brought us homemade bread and fresh eggs. Martin provided us with fresh milk. We had the opportunity to help milking the cows and my nephew even had a spin on the tractor. We stayed for a week and didn't have time to see all that Burren has to offer, the Cliffs of Moher (25 minutes drive) is a must see. We also suggest 'Ooh la la', a cozy and charming creperie in Ennistymon (20 minutes drive).

Marian and Martin made us feel very welcome from the first contact and throughout our stay. The house is beautiful and was perfect for our party of 3 adults and 5 children ranging in age from 18 months to 14 years. The location is a perfect base for exploring the Burren and the Clare coast. It was a memorable week and we look forward to returning. Thank you so much Martin and Marian !

Our hosts could not have been more welcoming. They were intelligent and knew the right balance between friendly conversation and leaving us to ourselves. They had a wise and informed perception on a wide variety of subjects. They gave us milk from their own cows, fresh free-range eggs and home-made bread. The photographs on Airbnb don't do the place justice. It's very roomy, spotlessly clean, with effective central heating and loads of hot water.

This was our third time staying at the farmhouse and we had another amazing visit. Marian and Martin could not be lovelier hosts and kinder people. Each time we have been there they go above and beyond to make sure we are comfortable. The patience they show towards our three children is something we treasure. They have taught our children so much about farm life and the importance of hard work and our children have gained confidence from the responsibilities entrusted to them. Some incredible bonuses we were not expecting upon our first booking!!! The house has been immaculate on every visit. Marian is very quick to respond to enquiries and is very helpful with itinerary planning. Wifi is great. Farm fresh eggs and milk was an added bonus! The location is very central for exploring the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, the Aran Islands, listening to local trad music in Doolin, surfing in Lahinch, and much, much more. Reading all the heartwarming entries in the guestbook leads me to believe we are not the only guests who feel incredibly lucky to have stumbled upon this gem. Thank you Marian and Martin for another unforgettable visit. Our family made some more wonderful memories.

Hi, we're Marian and Martin, we have our own Dairy farm here in Kilfenora Co. Clare. When we're not milking cows, we're set dancing or walking in the Burren. We love traditional music, baking bread, socializing with wonderful friends and local characters. We also love natural history and local heritage, and are keen to share this with our visitors.
