Private, two-level carriage house nestled in a courtyard garden in the Historic District of Lafayette Square. Many award-winning restaurants and bars within two city blocks, a half block from the entrance to the beautiful Lafayette Park.
The space
The Carriage House is located in the rear garden of our home and main house. It was originally built to house horse drawn carriages back in the late 1800’s. Today, completely renovated, it is a simple brick building with a deck and two floors connected by a spiral staircase.
The second floor, accessible by the outside deck stairway and from the first floor via a metal spiral staircase, serves as the primary living space with a common space/bedroom, kitchen and bath. Thoughtful attention was given to this space for its decor and functionality. Enjoy original local art work on the walls,currently displaying a bicycle series by artist Russell Vanecek. The sofa is a top rated sofa sleeper that gives you options for setting it up as a social space or bedroom. Walk down the spiral staircase to reach the first floor studio space that can be set up as an art studio or bedroom with a comfortable platform bed.
This two-story gem is conducive to small gatherings – connect with friends; visit college events at SLU and/or Washington University; enjoy a 10-minute drive to Forest Park, a short 5-minute commute to all downtown has to offer, and a two-mile walk to the famous Soulard Farmer’ Market on Saturdays. Enjoy sipping your morning coffee or a happy hour glass of wine on the spacious deck and you will quickly forget you are located in a bustling metropolis.
Guest access
Guests have access to the entire Carriage House. The attached garage houses my husband's old jeep and some of my art supplies I use for teaching art classes. Occasionally, we will need to access the garage to take out the jeep or supplies. Your living space will not be disturbed but you may hear the garage door opening from the ally or the jeep starting up. We will do our best to give you a heads so as not to startle you with the noise. Guests are invited to enjoy looking at the art that graces the walls and bookshelves on both floors. Pick up and browse through the books or magazines for inspiration during your stay. You are welcome to play with any of the art materials that are out in the open in the studio space, caring for them as you would if they were yours. Please do not open any storage boxes or closed containers in the studio unless they are marked specifically for guest use. Relax sitting in the garden or on carriage house deck with your favorite beverage.
Other things to note
If you are a party of Two requesting TWO BEDS please note that there is a one time additional charge for your entire length of stay of $20.00 for servicing two beds. (same applies to one guest using two different beds. (it happens!)
Due to the spiral staircase,the Carriage House is not suitable for pets or young children.

I have been an art educator for over 30 years. I taught art to elementary children and shared what I know about the teaching craft with students at Webster University. Recently retired, I am excited to explore new adventures while continuing to cultivate my many interests and passions. A perk of being a teacher, is the opportunity to meet so many different people. I am hoping that being a part of the Airbnb community will allow me the same opportunity. I love to cook, (you might get lucky). Gardening is my form of meditation -you'll reap the benefits. I enjoy sharing artful moments and I love meeting people who rock. I am married to a wonderful Kentucky Gentleman who is a writer and civil engineer and who helped me raise two very fine young men.
