Our apartment is beautifully decorated from our travels through North Africa and Europe. It looks over Les Arcades that form's the square in Ste Foy La Grande. It has a 19th century facade. It has been recently renovated. Come and enjoy!
Light floods through the tall 19th century French doors that open onto a balcony overlooking the main square of this medieval trading town right on the Dordogne River, not far from St Emilion in the beautiful Bordeaux wine country of Aquitaine. Ste-Foy is a sophisticated French provincial town with nearby historical sites and great restaurants, cafes and bars. The Saturday market, right outside the apartment building, is famous, and rated in the top 100 markets in France.
This stylish 2-bedroom apartment has 2 queen-sized bedrooms, modern kitchen and bathroom, separate toilet, washing machine and dryer, hair dryer, TV, DVD, CD, ipod speakers, and a small library of books. It is on the second floor of a security building with a lift.
If you stand on the balcony of the apartment, you are looking at the Place Gambetta, or the town square. The lovely 19th century building in the centre of the square is the Mairie or the Town Hall. On three sides of the square are les Arcades - the arched walkways with its medieval half timbered houses.
It is lovely to wander around the square, at any time. The food is wonderful - this is, after all, rural France - and reasonably priced. And of course, you are in Bordeaux, one of the great wine-regions on (website hidden) Emilion is a 20 minute drive away, and a similar time on the train.
You will find patisseries for the morning pastry or baguette, and cafés and bars around the square, and a number of great restaurants around the town and in the nearby districts.
Nearby, within easy access by car or train, are the breathtaking sites of pre-history in the Vézère valley, including the Lascaux caves. The Dordogne valley has some wonderful medieval sites, like the great castles at Castelnaud, Beynac and Domme. The beautiful late medieval, early Renaissance city of Sarlat is an easy drive or train ride away and is an absolute must-see.
The town and the apartment are easily accessible by road or by train. Nearest international airports are Bordeaux (about 80 km) and Bergerac (about 20 km). The rail connection to Paris is through either Bordeaux or Libourne. Please contact us for details. We have a housekeeper who lives locally.
You have access to the whole apartment.
Visit the Bastide de Sainte-Foy-la-Grande : along the river Dordogne, discover Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, and let you tell the story of walled towns of the Middle Ages through its Ruets, remains of walls, arches and beautiful half-timbered houses. This town of the thirteenth has preserved its typical grid pattern fortified cities of that time. Thereafter, the Protestant stronghold of fame allows Henry to find help. Then, over the centuries, its port business grows through boatmen carrying the precious wine barrels to Libourne or Bordeaux.
The train station is a short walk. Hire car's are available from two super supermarkets in the town.

The pilgrimage to Saint Jacques de Compostela has always been considered time on a par with those of Rome and Jerusalem as one of the great pilgrimages of Christianity.
The road to Vézelay ranked UNESCO World Heritage the Way of St. Jacques. His starting point, in Gironde, is located at the bridge over the Dordogne between Fleix and the Saint-Avit-Saint-Nazaire. Sainte-Foy-la-Grande is the major step between Musselburgh (24) and St. freme (33).
Did you know? In years when the feast of St. Jacques (July 25) falls on a Sunday are holy years (jubilee) where pilgrims obtain special graces and indulgences; they are especially numerous in those years to come to Saint-Jacques de Compostela .. The last Jubilee year was in 2010 and the next in 2021 ...
Do not park your car in the street outside the building on Friday nights!
Kerry and Paul were very welcoming with their emails and extra information. The apartment is very comfortable. Minor amount of street noise, but otherwise was great. Sainte Foy is slow paced and hasnt got any specific attractions, but this apartment does provide a perfect base for exploring the area.
Kerry and Paul were great hosts - they were very helpful, promptly responded to any enquiries and sent us a great document with useful information about the town and local area.
The flat itself was lovely - spacious and light, good cooking facilities. The flat was right in the town centre and therefore in a great location - there was always something going on if you wanted to go out but it was quiet enough that it didn't disturb you if you wanted to stay in.
There were English TV channels and lots of books in the flat.
Whilst we were staying we went on trips to St Emilion, St Aulaye (where there is a lovely river beach) and local towns such as Bergerac.
This is a wonderful apartment. Right in the centre of a thriving market town with great bars and restaurants. Spacious and very well equipped, we enjoyed a really comfortable stay. Kerry and Paul are extremely attentive before and during the time we spent there. Absolutely no complaints and 100% recommended.
Kerry and Paul are great hosts, really helpful and thoughtful. Absolutely lovely apartment and location exactly as described and pictured. Luxurious. Ste Foy is delightful and 30mins from Bergerac airport. Go there!
We live in Australia. We spend a lot of time in France and we love French history. After a few days in the Dordogne we knew we could live in that part of the world.
When I go to Ste Foy I have art lessons and Paul has French lessons both within walking distance. I love that we don't have to drive anywhere. Go enjoy the village - it's truly amazing!
Our other passion is our house 'Hatfield', Burrawang in the Southern Highlands of NSW which has developed into an Indigenous art gallery, we also love spending time in the garden. Our children have been enjoying trying to organically make use of the veggie patch (a bit of a shock as my daughter had never seen carrot stalks before!).
