This conveniently located, clean, peaceful self-catering apartment is on the lower level of our house. It is just a few blocks from world class snorkeling, swimming, surfing and boogie boarding in the heart of the White Sands Beach area off of Ali`i Drive.
The ground floor apartment with private entrance and designated off-street parking consists of a bedroom with comfortable queen sized bed, living area with full and twin size (child size) futon, full eat in kitchen, spacious bathroom (shower but no tub) tropical decor and an outdoor deck for relaxing. There are ceiling fans in each room, but no AC. We are located on a quiet cul-de-sac, but there is some road noise from Alii Dr and the sound of the waves during high surf.
We love the Big Island and look forward to sharing our knowledge with you.

Interaction with Guests
We value our guests privacy and we let you decide how much you want to chat with us. I mostly work from home and am available to provide information or answer questions as needed.
Our household is usually up by around 6am. We do our best to minimize any noise, but if you are a very light sleeper, you may hear footsteps or plumbing sounds.
Located on a cul-de-sac in a quiet residential neighborhood with easy access to local beaches and sightseeing.
The Kona airport is approximately 30-45 minutes from the house. Downtown Kona is 3.5 miles, Kahalulu beach park is 1 mile, and Keauhou shopping center about 1.5 miles away. Rental car is highly recommended for ease of transportation and sightseeing. However the house is two blocks from the public bus line and sightseeing trolley pick up along Alii drive.
Other Things to Note
Cleaning fee is waived if you leave the apartment clean and as you found it. We ask that you:
1. Remove the trash
2. Wash all dishes
3. Wipe up any spills or messes
4. Report any damage
5. Notify us when you check out

There is a small, friendly dog and a cat on the property.
Even though we are near the beach, this is a quiet residential neighborhood of small lots and close neighbors so we ask our guests to keep the noise down particularly after 8pm to 6am. This apartment is not a good fit for those who like to party or have lots of friends visit.

The location was great: just a 3-minute walk to the ocean. And driving into Kailua was easy, but we were far enough away that it was quiet and relaxing. We liked the simplicity of the keyless entry on the front door. Inside, there was a surprising amount of space, and both of the beds were very comfortable. Having beach gear available was great too. Overall a fantastic deal if you need a place to stay in Kona.
We had a great time in Kona and liked the apartment a lot. it was very clean and spacious with a nice garden porch. The directions to the house were all correct and easy to follow and when we met Liz the day after arrival to give her the transient tax she was very helpful and gave us some good tips.
Liz and Robert were great. And their place is very nicely appointed with maps and books about Hawaii and lots of paradisiacal island motifs. Liz offered lots of ideas for fun things to do around Kona, like a beach that had a turtle (and we saw it!) and the national park that had a reconstructed Hawaiian village (and a very long name.) We loved having access to their snorkel gear, beach mats, and boogie boards, as well as all the neighborhood geckos entertaining us during our porch breakfasts. It's a quick walk thru a residential neighborhood and across a busy road to Magic Sands. We couldn't hear traffic at night as much as the waves. We could just about see the Pacific from the kitchen--not easily, but we were just a property, a road, and another property from the shore.

You are very gracious individuals. We appreciate the suggestions on what to see and where to dine. We loved being surrounded by so many flowering trees and birds, close to the beach, close to town, in an interesting neighbourhood, and having a quiet oasis to stay at the end of our busy days. Your helpful suggestions contributed greatly to the our sightseeing, shopping, and dining experience on the big island. We love Ollie. He is a little cutie. Liz and Robert welcomed us as we arrived and had fresh flowers on the kitchen table to greet us. The accommodations were larger than we had expected and were very comfortable. It was easy to make meals in the roomy kitchen and then eat on the private lanai. We enjoyed the proximity to local snorkeling areas, markets and the variety of walking routes, also. The added bonus was being greeted at the back door by Ollie, the resident puppy in the
morning. This is an Airbnb that we'd certainly come back to!
Great place! Liz and Robert were awesome hosts. We were traveling with our 19 month old son, and were very comfortable here. They had a pack and play set up for us when we arrived, and the apartment had plently of room for him to play. You can hear the ocean from this place. We especially enjoyed the big patio with a grill!
The Lees' Honu Ohana accommodations were even better than advertised. Their apartment was airy, spacious, and well equipped. My son whom I met up with in Kona after his cycling trip around the Big Island complimented me on my choice. Since he is a teacher and had to finish some of his school work online, it was great that we had good internet connections.
Although we were about two blocks from the beach, I could still see the ocean from the kitchen window, and I liked being away from the noise and traffic along the beach front. Our quiet surroundings of lush vegetation and lots of interesting birds suited me just fine. We had our own private deck with table and chairs so we could eat there if we liked or just sit and be blissful.
There were several good books for reading and a number of books on Hawaii and the Big Island which were helpful.
Liz was an excellent hostess, helpful but not intrusive. If we return to Kona, I would certainly want to stay with the Lees.
