The Space

This conveniently located, clean, peaceful self-catering apartment is on the lower level of our house. It is just a few blocks from world class snorkeling, swimming, surfing and boogie boarding in the heart of the White Sands Beach area off of Ali`i Drive.

The ground floor apartment with private entrance and designated off-street parking consists of a bedroom with comfortable queen sized bed, living area with full and twin size (child size) futon, full eat in kitchen, spacious bathroom (shower but no tub) tropical decor and an outdoor deck for relaxing. There are ceiling fans in each room, but no AC. We are located on a quiet cul-de-sac, but there is some road noise from Alii Dr and the sound of the waves during high surf.

We value our guests privacy and we let you decide how much you want to chat with us. We mostly work from home and are available to provide information or answer questions as needed.

The Neighborhood

Located on a cul-de-sac in a quiet residential neighborhood with easy access to local beaches and sightseeing.

Getting around

The Kona airport is approximately 30-45 minutes from the house. Downtown Kona is 3.5 miles, Kahalulu beach park is 1 mile, and Keauhou shopping center about 1.5 miles away. Rental car is highly recommended for ease of transportation and sightseeing. However the house is two blocks from the public bus line and sightseeing trolley pick up along Alii drive.

Cleaning fee is waived if you leave the apartment clean and as you found it. We ask that you:

2. Wash all dishes
3. Wipe up any spills or messes
4. Report any damage
5. Notify us when you check out

  • Wow, is this host organized- a detailed booklet of expectations on how not to incur cleaning fees, suggestions for entertainment and eateries- very handy. The space you rent at Honu Ohana is essentially your own one bedroom house that is very comfortable and very clean. The surroundings are beautiful Plumeria trees and other flora I don't know the name of. Very cool and easy entry system that doesn't require a key, and neat controls for the ceiling fans that keep the house the perfect temperature. Lots of natural light in the kitchen and bedroom. Parking is right in the driveway. We were given use of boogie boards, snorkel gear, and towels which saved us some cash. Location is about four miles south of the main tourist area and you would need to take public transport or drive to most eateries, but there is a nice little white sand beach just down the street. A real great place, I was only there for three nights but I would have been comfortable for an extended stay.

  • Liz's Ohana is a beautiful space on a beautiful Island. I felt safe and extremely comfortable in this home and the surrounding location. Liz's attention to detail is impeccable. The location is ideal, though a vehicle is nearly essential. This property was clean, and well cared for. The yard is beautiful, and the view makes it easy to stay "home" relaxing. I would recommend this Ohana as well as return!

  • A lovely place to stay in Kona! The apartment is very nice, and has everything you need if you want to cook or grill your own meals. It's in a great location--just a bit off of Alii Drive (so not much road noise), but walking distance to White Sands beach and only a short drive to other beaches and attractions. Liz gave us some great tips on which beaches were good for swimming or snorkeling. There were also two sets of snorkel gear, boogie boards, and beach chairs for us to use, so we didn't have to worry about renting any.

  • We just came home from a 9-night stay on the Big Island at Liz and Robert's ohana in Kona. The apartment was nicely appointed, clean, comfortable, and quiet. It's on a cul-de-sac in a lovely residential area, so it was quiet and safe, but it was also very close to the ocean and all the action on Ali'i drive. It's within walking distance of White Sands/Magic beach and just a short drive to Ka'ha Lu'u beach park for good snorkeling. We don't like to deal with a lot of people at the big resorts and we like to explore on our own, so after going to a different beach everyday, it was nice to come back to the peace and comfort of the apartment. Liz and Robert were super nice and available to answer any questions and give advice. We packed light so when I needed to do a load of laundry, Liz readily gave me access to the washer/dryer. We really appreciated that, and the huge, tile shower with the awesome shower head was a real treat after a day in the sun, sand, and salt water. The location is really unique because we felt close enough to the shops, markets, and restaurants of Kona and the marina of Keauhou but tucked in a quiet, residential neighborhood. If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay with all the comforts of home, that's reasonably priced, where you can eat in (full kitchen) or go out to one of the many restaurants, this is an excellent choice. If we make it back there someday, we'll stay here again. We had a wonderful vacation.

  • All 3 of us had a great stay at Liz's place. We really appreciated how fast Liz answered all our questions prior to finalizing the booking. When we arrived we were impressed by the cleanliness of the apartment and how close it was to the beach. Highly recommend this place.

  • Nice, out of the way apt.. but close enough to down town. It was advertised as quiet & it was (except for New Years Eve, but it was after all New Years Eve in Hawaii so the fireworks were expected). The kitchen was fully furnished if I had ever felt like cooking. There were also boogie boards, beach mats, & scuba gear for us to use. My two grandchildren loved the cat & dog that belong to Liz. I felt like this was a safe, restful place to stay & would recommend Honu Ohana

  • Absolutely love this place! Liz and Robert are excellent hosts and the unit provides all amenities need to make you feel comfortable. The two of us stayed there 8 nights with our two adult sized children and the unit was VERY comfortable. The location is great and downtown Kona is a close drive. There wasn't one bad thing we could say about the accommodations, in fact they way exceeded our expectations, especially for the reasonable rate!

    The only disappointment we had is that we did not have the chance to get to know Liz and Robert better.

    When we return to Kona, we definitely know where we will be staying!
