The place was fantastic. It was neat and clean and I felt very comfortable there. It's the first place I will check for availability the next trip I plan to the area. This is my first day back home and I must say miss it.
My host was very prompt in getting back to my inquiries, and booking the studio was a very smooth process. He called the afternoon of our arrival and checked in with us. The description on airbnb is accurate. It is a working studio, with the host using the back space and the kitchen, and occasionally using the gallery in the front to show his work. We didn't see Heather, but Michael was great and easy to talk with. The private space is pretty small, just two beds and not much space for your things. But we used some of the front space and it was fine. We were gone most of the time so it really was adequate.
Our colleagues at the writing conference which we were in Taos for stayed at the Sagebrush Inn, and from what they said I am very glad we didn't spend the money to stay there. The Topsy Gallery was perfect.
I really enjoyed my two nights at Michael and Heather's cozy little apartment. It's on the main highway connecting Ranchos de Taos and Taos proper, but inside you feel like you're in an isolated little cabin. It's behind their glass gallery -- you walk through a room full of beautiful handmade pieces to get to the apt. I really like the furniture and decorating -- lots of midcentury influences. It's very peaceful and comfortable, but also distinctive and quirky, as you'd expect from an art studio/apartment. Michael made me feel welcome and even let me leave my stuff for part of a day when I wasn't sure whether I'd need a third night -- very gracious. I'd absolutely stay here again.
Michael and Heather are incredibly warm and helpful. They made us fell in love with Taos and the lovely people there. Their place has everything we need. I recommend anyone to stay at their place if you have a chance. We stayed at another place of theirs at Taos later. Both are very comfy and unique, full of cool art pieces. I'll definitely stay at theirs whenever I got chance!
Michael met me at the gallery and he was wonderful, showing me around - it's a great space, a big bathroom, small kitchen that made cooking for myself easy, and the bed is comfortable. The location is a bit out of town - takes 45 minutes to walk to Taos Plaza, but the local bus does go right past the place if you're there on a weekday. I would stay again in a heartbeat.
It was a great experience to be in taos for both me and Wes .. Michael and heathers studio had everything for a comfortable road journey .. We got to meet Michael and see his great glass studio .. Will definitely come back to taos and topsy gallery :) .. Thank you !!
We enjoyed our stay at Topsy Gallery, the space was very cool & unique, clean, & comfortable. We arrived later than expected so we never got to meet Michael, but he was very accessible through email. This was the perfect pit stop on our road trip across the southwest.
