This has a comfortable double bed for two tucked away in our Milo and Noni forest with plenty of room and a small deck.
KIRPAL MEDITATION AND ECOLOGICAL CENTER (KMEC)
Our very spacious covered Milo Orchard Double Bed Mini Cabin with private deck, offers as much room as a small cabin with a walk in entrance and the ability to stand inside of it straight up. Always dry and comfy inside with a double bed and is secluded in our Milo and Noni forest orchard.
The shared kitchen and two fully equipped, clean, and modern bathrooms, also with jungle view, are about 120 feet away.
Our spacious and open ten acre property is surrounded by a buffer of Jungle and features 450+ trees with 30 or so kinds of tropical fruit. You're welcome to help yourself to the freshest fruit possible whenever they're ripe!
Swimming is half a mile away at Isaac Kepo'okalani Hale Park, one of the few safe places for swimming on this rugged, extremely scenic, coast.
A body-temperature warm-pond park is just a half mile further, as well as excellent snorkeling in the wave-protected Kapoho Tide Pools with dozens of corals, and thousands of brightly colored fish.
The nearly constant lava-flow area is just half an hour to the West of us, and perfect for a sunset, or sunrise, hike where you'll often see a cascade of red-hot lava plunging 50 or 60 feet into the ocean boiling below. Truly awesome! A peak experience for most of our guests.
Shopping, a natural foods market, and delicious restaurants are 10 minutes away in Pahoa Town. Several large Farmer Markets operate on the weekends too.
Our Teak Meditation Pavilion was made in Bali and is, to us, a very holy and special place for prayer and reflection. We don't preach, or otherwise "reach out"...., it's simply there if you would like some peace and tranquility - which is, as most people tell us, is our main product. :-)
Please try to arrive before dark or shortly thereafter.

We comfortably exist on a large solar electric system, some propane, and mostly catchment rain water. You don't have to scrimp, but we do ask that you be mindful of the limits of these kinds of "off grid" systems.
KMEC is a vegetarian oriented facility. The owners and some of our staff are strict vegetarians avoiding meat, fish fowl and eggs (both fertile and infertile). They do eat cheese and dairy. Meat eating and non-vegetarian guests are most welcome at KMEC. You should advise our General Manager of your dietary preferences when booking your reservation. We will make every effort to accommodate you and provide you with the most enjoyable stay possible.
DRUGS, TOBACCO, ALCOHOL AND INTOXICANTS:
KMEC is a drug, alcohol, tobacco and intoxicants free center. Our focus is on meditation, spirituality, healing our body, giving peace to our soul and healthy living. The owners and some of our staff totally abstain from the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and intoxicants. We recognize that not all of our guests are similarly oriented and you will be welcome in any event. You should advise our General Manager of your particular preferences, if any, with regard to these issues and we will make every effort to accommodate you.
KMEC is a place that promotes nonviolence, truthfulness, humility, purity, selfless service, meditation and healthy living. KMEC does not discriminate based on age, race, religion or sexual preferences.
Fun experience to sleep in the outdoors!! The place was clean and they take good care of the facility. I arrived in the evening and I was lucky that a car arrived behind me with a former coworker, otherwise I would have been lost!!!! They should have communicated that previous to the arrival. I can recommend to bring a flash light for the night. Overall I can recommend staying here! If you mind the sound of the frogs at night or the wild pigs then it's not your cup of tea!
it's always best to arrive during daylight hours. The prestigious Mango Grove is so beautiful, windy and miraculous that driving at night does not do it justice. Flashlight are provided in each cabins as well as electricity.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We loved staying at KMRC! We stayed in 2 different rooms while we were there and enjoyed them both. We had the pleasure of seeing the Ocean Vista cabin and strongly recommend staying there! We briefly met the owner, Leo and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with him. The manager, Steve was very friendly, informative and accommodating during our stay. The mediation pavilion is lovely. Our only regret was not spending enough time in there. Eating fresh fruit and being able to pick it was fun as well as macheteing our own coconut to drink! We spent time on the whole island during our two week stay, and our 5 nights in Pahoa were possibly our favorite. What a great place!
The host (Leonard) was awesome and definitely the best part of our stay. Really endearing and goofy guy, he shared with us his experience as a paraglider.
We were unlucky and arrived during a storm, which made our room a bit uncomfortable with all the wind. Other than that, the room was nicer than advertised!
Steve was a wonderful host and I couldn't have felt more welcome!!! I got in late Friday night and all day Sat I spent the day going to Akaka Falls and traveling around with Steve before picking another person up at the airport--we went to Walmart and Steve was concerned about all of my needs and wanted to make sure I felt safe and enjoyed my time. He provided coffee and fruit right from the fruiting trees on the property
Steve made me feel very welcome when I showed up but I have to say, I was not thrilled by what I found. Upon arrival, I was told the tent I'd booked 5 months before was gone and unavailable. Instead, I was given a much less private mini-cabin with no electricity. (content hidden) My advice: you must be truly flexible to stay here, as beautiful as it is. Proceed with caution.
All this being said, I really enjoyed the pristine outdoor/indoor showers and the kitchen area which was well-equipped and clean. Everyone on-site was very friendly and the center's proximity to the local hot springs was a huge added bonus. Downtown Pahoa was nice with Island Naturals grocery and the Tin Shack Bakery as highlights. The active lava flow in town was something to see as well.
We at KMEC are truly sorry that Megan was not thrilled by what she found upon her arrival here. Her arrival coincided with the death of our General Manager's mother in Arizona which caused his sudden departure. In his absence onsite personnel mistakenly booked another guest into the tent she had reserved. They should have upgraded her into one of our other available accommodations. We only hope that Megan will understand our mistake and choose to visit KMEC again. Should she to do so we hereby offer her two (2) free nights on her next booking.
I loved my little cabin in the woods and the symphony at night. Stephen was very welcoming and helpful from the very beginning to the end. My only complaint is how close my cabin was to the road that surprisingly had a decent amount of traffic on it. Breakfast in the morning with fresh fruit picked that morning from the property. Nice meditation space on site.

The lava flow currently is not effecting KMEC. The flow is away from us and has subsided. Major roads are open. Enjoy the natural beauty of this island. Mahalo.
Kirpal Meditation and Ecological Center is a half mile from the ocean on the eastern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii, approximately seven miles from the small village of Pahoa. The 10-acre ocean-view property is blessed with average daytime temperatures of 85° F year-round, and 65° F at night, with cool, fragrant trade winds, surrounding tropical flora, including old growth mangoes, nearby swimming, surfing and snorkeling.
This property was once a papaya farm and is now newly planted with bamboo, papaya, palms, banana and many other fruit trees. The octagonal Balinese meditation pavilion is set among shade-trees with an expansive view of the ocean. The island wildlife is all around us – a variety of birds by day and at night there's the pleasant chirping of Coqui frogs – and there are no snakes. Natural wonders include Volcanoes National Park, for lava and crater viewing, volcanically heated warm ponds and steam vents (as outdoor saunas) and other wonders of the lush tropics.
Kmec opened in the summer of 2008 for pre-arranged seasonal meditation retreats and private meditation-vacations on request. Additionally, we would like to extend our welcome to Big Island travelers offering cozy cottages and open air kitchen and bath.
