Share our piece of Paradise
Enter the magical world of Sunrise Beach House. Be enchanted by its charm, serenity and beauty. Set in a lush tropical garden, facing East towards the morning sun, in the midst of a small fishing village...you'll only regret that you didn't book this villa for longer.
Away from the tourists areas of southern Bali, and 30 ft from the ocean, you'll have the opportunity to experience the Island as it was many years ago, the temples, craftsmen, religious ceremonies etc.
The waters here are warm and usually calm. Great for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving nearby.
Our house is solid teak, 3 stories high with 2 large comfortable bedrooms. We can accommodate up to 8 people, with three queen beds and two singles. We also have a baby crib available. It was built to resemble a Black Forest Chalet with numerous decks and balconies, all opening to the ocean.
Our staff will cater to your every need, and can even phone for a local masseuse, set up an appointment with a healer or arrange for dinner to be delivered.
Our rates include a superb breakfast, with a choice of both Western and Balinese foods, internet, air con, laundry and daily cleaning.
We can also arrange to prepare dinner for our guests, or you can order in from several local restaurants, or eat at the western style restaurant at the resort next door if they're open to the public.
We have two wonderful staff: Rai and Ketut, who speak English and will assist you with any questions that you may have regarding tours, cultural issues, and help you to understand the Island and its people.
Some Additional Information about our Neighborhood
• Every morning (obviously) in front of your balcony at around 5.30 – 6pm and it’s a great way to welcome the day.
• This is especially lovely at Villa Sunrise as the moon rises over the ocean, making the full moon especially romantic for those on honeymoons.
MIND - BODY - SOUL
• We can sometimes use the spa and yoga facilities at Gaia (for a fee), and there are a couple of masseuses that will come to the house.
• You can snorkel right in front of the property. We have two masks and fins available at the house.
We are located just in front of a small fishing village, and as such, there are often dogs and chickens who wander onto our property. You may also hear the sounds of chickens and roosters early in the morning. Our area is rural, quiet and very indicative of the true Bali.
You may have access to the restaurant at Gaia-Oasis, their spa services and their pool at Abason (for a small fee) if they do not have an exclusive booking. Please check at the office.
Interaction with Guests
We have two wonderful staff, Rai and Ketut who will cater to your every need!
Our Neighborhood is a typical Balinese fishing village, with boats near the Villa that go out daily, a small local market, and lots of temple celebrations and ceremonies.
There is public transport by small local buses, or you can rent a motor bike or a car with driver.
Other Things to Note
There is a western style restaurant just next door, as well as several local restaurants nearby that deliver. You may be able to order a la carte from them between 2:30-5:00.
Our staff can also prepare a Balinese for 4 or more persons for an additional fee.
We have a house book with lots of information regarding what to do and see.
Please do not smoke in the house...outdoors is okay.
We arrived at the villa in the afternoon, and were welcomed by Rai and Ketut, the caretakers. Our kids were immediately all over the place: sea, pebbles, shells, stairs, bathrooms, beds, everything was interesting to them.
Unfortunately the sea was a little rough the first day and a half. Snorkeling was a little difficult. We visited Jemeluk near Amed instead and this was an easy and nice trip from the villa. We were able to go watch dolphins on the small fishing boat of the fisherman-neighbour at dawn: wonderful! And we had great massages, arranged by Ketut.
Although there are no big shops nearby, we found that small necessities are not so far away if you are comfortable visiting Indonesian kampong-shops. Plus there is a new little restaurant next to the Gaia resort.
We are a little bit sensitive to mosquito bites, so the klambu is useful and necessary. My father used the AC room and the kids, my husband and I used the upper floor without AC. Because of the wind this was absolutely fine. I honestly prefer rooms that are built to work without AC. Like the shadowy veranda where we had the great breakfast of fruit, eggs and home-baked bread made by Ketut.
The villa feels less like a luxury villa than a real home-away-from-home. Not formal at all and very welcoming.
An amazing beach house in an amazing location. My brother and I stayed here for a few nights and unfortunately my brother had an old injury flare up while we were there. Ketut, the housekeeper, was extremely helpful in making sure that he was seen to quickly by a doctor. The perfect place to chill out in Bali - I was definitely sad to leave!
My two friends and I had a lovely stay at the Sunrise Beach House. We had fun getting to know Ketut and Rai, who look after the house and are available to cook meals if you want. They cooked WONDERFUL food for reasonable cost (less expensive than us buying groceries and trying to cook for ourselves)… fresh tuna, nasi goring, vegetarian if you want, curries… Note: They make generous breakfast portions, so you likely will not need to make lunch (we brought too many groceries, not realizing breakfast would be substantial each day). The villa is rustic but lovely, perfectly suited to our taste, with much attention paid to details. The linens are beautiful. The beds are cozy. There are many places to lounge. Even though the beach is not sandy, the swimming is great. Would recommend going on an early morning boat tour with the neighbour. Information is available at the villa. Would also recommend the spa services of Kadek, a person who lives nearby and has a massage table at the villa. If you are squeamish about morning roosters, tiny geckos, or the occasional bat, this is probably not the place for you. But, if you want to get out of the busy tourist areas of Bali and enjoy a more rural pace of life in a gorgeous villa right by the ocean with a private pebble beach and amazing food and lovely hosts… this is the place for you! I would be happy to return next year. Thank you, Barbara, Ketut, and Rai! :)
wow wow wow! we really enjoyed our stay at sunrise beach house. everything was just perfect. pity we spent only 4 days.
The manager, Ketut and his wife Ray made our experience perfect! Their warmness & hospitality was just awsome!
Our time at Sunrise Beach house was just perfect for us. The house has a "magical" feeling. It has three floors, and one of the pleasures was being able to always find private space. The beach is rocky, we were there when the water was a bit choppy so swimming and snorkeling were not the best.
While we were there we helped to get the internet working properly.
So we did have good internet access. That had been a problem in the past and it has been resolved. The other thing we enjoyed was the many movies they have, we never have time to watch movies but in our two weeks enjoyed that luxury.
The caretakers, Kutut and Jai were fabulous. Always helpful, not intrusive. Breakfasts were perfect, good strong coffee. Jai often was willing to cook a dinner if she had time. Her meals were the best in the town. The hotel next store is a extra bonus. You can go there for a meal or a fancy coffee. It's a short walk to town. Once you are there you will find an assortment of shops not geared to tourist. This is what we wanted. I hope I can go back to Sunrise Beach House . I've been to Bali many times, stayed many places, and this is my favorite.
Barbara was very helpful with arrangements and questions.
We arrived at Sunrise Beach House and were welcomed by the wonderful Ketut and his wife Rai who made us feel at home straight away and couldn't do enough to help us right from the start. However, the house itself we found quite different from the advertisement and were quite disappointed with the facilities. It is listed as air conditioned but there was only AC in one bedroom which we really struggled with. We ended up having both our children sleep in the main bedroom with us as they weren't otherwise able to tolerate the humidity at night - needless to say, there wasn't much romance with all our extra visitors in our room :( Also very disappointing was that we were expecting to utilize the restaurant at Gaia Resort next door for our evening meals and some lunches but we were told by their staff that we weren't able to eat there at all as they were holding a 10 day yoga retreat and facilities were booked exclusively for their guests. This also prevented us from being able to use their pool or massage therapists as they too were being used exclusively for guests. We were only able to hire 2 very old snorkel sets from Gaia for 2 hours on one day as they too were being used for their own guests and we found that without being able to use any of the Gaia facilities advertised on the booking site, we were restricted to staying at the house for our stay. There were no board games available for the children which we were looking forward to playing and the wifi was intermittent at best and often unavailable, also disappointing. We would have brought our own snorkels and games for the kids if we had known there was nothing there but it is a very isolated area and was pretty much impossible to obtain them via other means. Thankfully we were able to hire a scooter for 2 days so we were at least able to go and get food to eat and bottled water from the local warung but unfortunately we ended up with Bali Belly and decided to cut our stay short from 7 nights as originally planned, to 3 as we were all quite unwell. Overall a very disappointing stay.
We had no idea that Gaia had made their facilities exclusive. We've rented our house there for 10 years and this is the first time that this has happened.
I wish Gina had contacted me about this problem, and I would have tried to resolve it for her or refunded her payment. She however misled our staff and told them that she had made a mistake on her dates and was meeting some friends in Sanur.
I read the review that she wrote in our guest book and it was excellent. Our staff had cooked dinner for this family and believed that they had enjoyed their stay. What a surprise to hear this review!
The Sunrise Villa is located in the less touristy northern Bali . For fixing exactly what you need. The sea is wonderfully tempered and due to the stone beach was nice and clear . The sunrises can recharge an energy . For breakfast you will Ketut , the good spirit of the house , pampered with all sorts of treats and fresh fruits . Generally carries Ketut with its cheerful and trusting manner , helpfulness and his organizational skills the biggest piece to a perfect holiday with ! The rest of the day you can relax wonderfully in wonderful landscaped gardens overlooking the sea. If you like to see more of the island can open up from here until about 1 hour with scooters places that remain withheld from the ordinary tourists . All in all, a truly unique spot.

About the Host, Barbara
My husband and I have had a love affair with Bali for many years, buying our Villa Sunrise on the beach in 2004, opening an Indonesian furniture and art gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico, organizing yoga and meditation retreats, and now having built our Villa in the ricefields of Ubud.
Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun were built in 2011 to western standards with a Balinese esthetic.
We have decorated the villa with high quality Balinese art, furniture and artifacts. Villa Sunrise, Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun are our 'homes' not 'hotels'........welcome Home!
