The Space

Enter the magical world of Sunrise Beach House. Be enchanted by its charm, serenity and beauty. Set in a lush tropical garden, facing East towards the morning sun, in the midst of a small fishing'll only regret that you didn't book this villa for longer.
Away from the tourists areas of southern Bali, and 30 ft from the ocean, you'll have the opportunity to experience the Island as it was 30 years ago, the temples, craftsmen, religious ceremonies etc.
The waters here are warm and usually calm. Great for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving nearby.
Our house is solid teak, 3 stories high with 2 large comfortable bedrooms. We can accommodate up to 8 people, with three queen beds and two singles. We also have a baby crib available. It was built to resemble a Black Forest Chalet with numerous decks and balconies, all opening to the ocean.
Our staff will cater to your every need, and can even phone for a local masseuse, set up an appointment with a healer or arrange for dinner to be delivered.
Our rates include a superb breakfast, with a choice of both Western and Balinese foods, internet, air con, laundry and daily cleaning.
We can also arrange to prepare dinner for our guests, or you can order in from several local restaurants, or eat at the excellent restaurant at the resort next door.
We have two wonderful staff: Rai and Ketut, who speak English and will assist you with any questions that you may have regarding tours, cultural issues, and help you to understand the Island and its people.

Some Additional Information about our Neighborhood

• Every morning (obviously) in front of your balcony at around 5.30 – 6pm and it’s a great way to welcome the day.

• This is especially lovely at Villa Sunrise as the moon rises over the ocean, making the full moon especially romantic for those on honeymoons.

• The Spa at Gaia-Oasis has regular yoga – meditation and spiritual workshops.

• You can snorkel right in front of the property. The center next door can rent you a mask and fins.

We are located just in front of a small fishing village, and as such, there are often dogs and chickens who wander onto our property. You may also hear the sounds of chickens and roosters early in the morning. Our area is rural, quiet and very indicative of the true Bali.

Guest Access

You will have access to the restaurant at Gaia-Oasis, their spa services and their pool at Abasan (for a small fee)

Interaction with Guests

We have two wonderful staff, Rai and Ketut who will cater to your every need!

  • We spent a fabulous four days at Villa Sunrise and only wish we could have spent another several days. Barbara was very responsive and helpful, and Ketut and Rai took care of us like we were family. The Tejakula area is off the beaten track which was exactly what we were looking for. I would recommend renting a scooter (Ketut can do this for you), but only if you are interested in exploring the area. Just sitting at Villa Sunrise and swimming in the Bali Sea will be enough for many people -- it is quite spectacular. Next door to the Villa is the Gaia-Oasis, a small resort where we ate most of our lunches and dinners which was very convenient. We love Bali and are already talking about going back -- we would definitely think about another stay at Villa Sunrise.

  • Wow! We had such a lovely time here! The breakfast was AMAZING. We really didn't do much else here other than play in the waves and lounge on the couch overlooking the beach! Thank you to Ketut and Rai for looking after us so well!

  • I really had a wonderful and fun time at the sunrise villa. I stayed for 3 nights and Ketut the host took great care of us. The breakfast made by him was delicious. Ketut did our laundry and really kept the place neat and clean.

The house is beautiful and its location with the beach just infront. The place is quiet peaceful and with friendly Balinese people around. The view of the beach is just magnificent and breathtaking. Quiet and calm place away from the hustle and bustle of the city area.

Blue, our driver was a delight to have him take us around Bali to the places of attractions. I would definitely call him again when i visit Bali the next time.

Overall the 3 nights staying there was a really great experience and the only sad thing was leaving.

  • We had a simply superb time at Villa Sunrise, the only downside was leaving. Next time the only difference will be that we will stay longer. The setting is perfect, Rai and Ketut are the perfect hosts and the Gaia Oasis next door welcoming and beautiful dinners. Blue, our driver and new mate, and his lovely daughters provided an adventure every time we hopped into the car. It was my first visit to Bali and I could not have been more impressed, a beautiful place and the most generous and friendly people.

  • Our family of five (with 3 boys, ages 9, 5, 10 mos) stayed at Villa Sunrise for six weeks this summer. The overall experience was wonderful. Although we never met Barbara in person, she was always prompt and very accommodating in her e-mails.

Ketut and Rai were a pleasure to deal with. Ketut’s breakfasts were amazing; we loved his homemade bread, eggs and fresh fruit. He was very prompt with laundry and made sure that everything was always neat and clean. *Please be aware though, that there is no gratuity for Ketut and Rai included in the cost. We found this out from Barbara after we left (as we assumed it was included) and we retroactively sent them a gratuity through a Paypal payment made to Barbara.

The house is beautiful. We especially loved the bed-sized couch on the 1st floor porch, the open-air bathrooms, and the 2nd and 3rd floor balconies. There are beds on the 2nd and 3rd floors, however, we found it too hot to sleep on the 3rd floor (and this is a pure matter of opinion, as we prefer to sleep in very cool rooms) – so we slept in the one, air conditioned room on the 2nd floor.

Tejakula is truly in the middle of nowhere; if you are looking to “get away from it all,” look no further. It’s about a 45 min. drive to Singaraja (nearest grocery store, Carrefour), 1.5 hour drive to Ubud, and around a 2.5-3 hour drive from Kuta (longer if you go at night).

The road from Tejakula goes south over a mountain, and for the first 30 minutes or so, it is very winding. Be sure and have Dramamine and/or ginger on hand if you get motion sickness; my husband does not do well in cars, and got sick on a couple of occasions going to/from Ubud and Kuta before we clued in and loaded him up on ginger. That said, you will n-e-v-e-r see more gorgeous scenery in your life than you will during that drive. It was definitely worth a little queasiness.

For the kids, we brought iPads and kids’ movies both on our computer and our own DVDs (there are tons of DVDs there already but not too many for kids) and their DVD player is not multi-regional, so it wouldn’t play our Region 1 DVDs. Wifi was usually reliable but seemed to be slow during the day (high usage times), and (website hidden) was hit or miss.

Our experience would not have been what it was without Gaia Oasis – the resort right next door. They have daily yoga classes, super-reasonably-priced spa treatments, and healthy food and juices at their restaurant. Their swimming pool is also nice and right there next to the restaurant.

Overall, it was like a six-week personal paradise. Highly recommended.

My husband and I have had a love affair with Bali for many years, buying our Villa Sunrise on the beach in 2004, opening an Indonesian furniture and art gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico, organizing yoga and meditation retreats, and now having built our Villa in the ricefields of Ubud. Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun were built in 2011 to western standards with a Balinese esthetic. We have decorated the villa with high quality Balinese art, furniture and artifacts. Villa Sunrise, Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun are our 'homes' not 'hotels'........welcome Home!
