Carved timber doors featuring Alice on her throne greet you at the entrance to this sweet cottage. The lower level master suite with its comfortable seating nook and large king size bed is an escapist fantasy and one exit to the outdoor bathroom with its separate shower and super sized terrazzo bath is by way of a charming courtyard and stone carved water feature. At the rear of the property is easy access to the new Bohemia organic arts restaurant and bar opening very soon.
As the sun sets on your idyllic surrounds and the monkeys take early retirement to slumber in the trees, you are left to revel in this quiet sanctuary or partake in the many experiences at your doorstep. *Please note, when booking for only 2 people our quoted prices assume two people are happy to share the king size bed in the mater suite. If when booking for two people only, you wish to use both the king size bed and the king single on the mezzanine, please enquire about the small additional charge per night for laundering and servicing for the two areas.
*"Internet in Bali" Please note that although Looking Glass House is equipped with very fast internet connection by the best available means, this is still a tropical island and although generally good our signal is vulnerable to the service provided by Telecom Indonesia and as with every other connection in Bali, there are a few rare times when it has not been at its best. In such instances we always seek to have the problem rectified expediently but please keep in mind, we are at the mercy of Telecom Indonesia, and cannot entertain any claims against us for the service they provide. That being said to date we have had very few problems with internet in our location.
For the enjoyment of all house guests, we ask smokers to confine doing so to the sunroom area where seating and ashtrays are provided as well as good ventilation
This house has an awesome location in Ubud. It is right on the edge of the monkey forest and a very quick walk to the city center. Transport was organized by Desak for us to and from the airport, which was a big help. Buddhi looked after us while we stayed at the house for the week and was absolutely fantastic. He made breakfast for us everyday and booked any tours we wanted to go on. He was very friendly and a great source of local information. The house itself is very unique and perfect for a couple or small family. Wifi was pretty solid the whole week and the bathroom is much larger than expected. House is very secure and we never felt like our valuables were vulnerable. Overall had a great stay and would recommend the place to anyone going to Ubud.
SERGE WE ARE SO HAPPY YOU LOVED LOOKING GLASS HOUSE! We agree the house has the perfect Ubud location and is great for a couple or small family, or may we suggest an excellent retreat for a holiday away with a few friends. Nice to hear you were happy with the WIFI and were impressed by the large bathroom (that tub really is almost big enough to swim in). We are proud of our staff and glad they looked after you so well and made you feel so secure. Budhi mentioned you look forward to coming back again and we most certainly will welcome you. Thank you for you recommendation...
House is nearby monkey forest, room is a little small but smart and clean.I think the house is better for coupel and young people because room have some step is a little difficult for baby and old people.
Hi Jingting, thank you for your recommendation and lovely review. We are happy you observing how smart and clean our property is. Yes the house is ideal for couples or particularly for a girls week away. It really is a whimsical fairy tale cottage set at the edge of the monkey forest and many say its sweet proportions and Gaudy style steps add to its charm. There is easy access to the large downstairs suite, but we do obviously try to discourage toddlers or the elderly staying up the ladder stair on the mezzanine level. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. come back any time.
This cosy Alice house is located right in front of Monkey forest.
Quiet and peaceful and yet close to the busy streets in Ubud.
There are lots of monkeys coming in to the property and may surprise you. But no worries, they are lovely neighbors.
The owner and the staff were highly attentive to all our needs. They tried to rectify it immediately when I had some small problems.
Many thanks to Jeanne and Budi for making our stay wonderful. Look forward to coming back.
Thank you so much Nagata for your lovely review, glad you loved the monkeys, as you know our staff will only allow the monkeys onto our grounds if the guests are comfortable with them. The new 9 meter pool will be in use very soon and in the meantime our guests are being offered the use of the lovely Kerti Yasa swimming pool, just a short walk from our property. The stunning new Bohemia organic restaurant right on our doorstep will opening in the next 4 weeks, so we welcome you back again soon to come and enjoy all the new facilities.
The looking glass house is a quaint and unique experience just on the edge of the monkey forest in ubud.
I love the way Desak has set the place up, it's so nice and close to town, and when budhi (the house keeper) was here the monkeys behaved themselves. (Although when he wasn't around there was one that was quite aggressive, and the first few days Budhi was not there much). The AC is great and the master bedroom is beautiful and great to have the DVD player. I love the Alice in wonderland theme too.
Desak and Jeanne were helpful and very responsive to any requests we had. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet them, but they encouraged us to ask Budhi for help if we needed it, who was very helpful to all of our requests, getting our washing done, picking up takeaway for us, or dropping me in town.
Unfortunately there were renovations happening next door, and thus no pool on the property that we thought we had booked for. Desak kindly organised a pool for us close by to have access to though, and provided us free breakfast to compensate for the inconvenience.
The Wifi did not work very well or often, which apparently had also been affected by the renovations, luckily a lot of cafes in town have free wifi the is very fast.
They also kindly accommodated our last minute extra guest.
Overall we felt looked after by Desak, Jeanne and Budhi as they were very responsive to any of the concerns we had, to make us feel as comfortable as they could.
Thank you so much for your lovely review Amanda we are so glad you loved Looking Glass House.. You will be pleased to note we have resolved our wifi issues which were due to cabling interference from the renovation next door, so all good now.. Once the renovations have finished a fantastic new 9 meter pool will be available for our guests, but in the mean time as you mentioned, our guests have special access to a beautiful and even larger pool which is comfortably in walking distance from the property and if you do not feel like a stroll our staff are always to take the 2 minute drive and drop you on the back of a motor bike.. Thanks again Amanda, we welcome you back any time..
This is a magical place with a mysterious Alice and Wonderland theme. My 2 year old daughter and the 2 year old that lives in my wife and I loved the monkeys coming into the yard and right up to the windows, and the location with the Monkey Forest just outside the front gate was wonderful. We were a bit worried about mosquitos being so close to a forest, but it wasn't a problem at all. The pictures are accurate, but it's hard to see how truly big the bed and bath are until you're there in person. They are both very spacious. There were two young guys who looked after the place, who were very friendly and cleaned the place daily, and rented us a cheap scooter. Got to meet Desak on our last day and she was great. Really enjoyed chatting with her. Will definitely stay here again.
Thank you Dan, we are so thrilled you loved our Looking Glass House, it is a special place indeed and we welcome you back any time. Just a note to other potential guests that if they are not at peace with the occasional monkey coming onto the grounds we have full time staff that generally are instructed to keep them out. In Dan's case him and his children were enjoying their presence so they let the odd one through. At Looking Glass House your wish is always our command....
We enjoyed our stay in the Looking Glass House. It's well located for quick access to central Ubud and we all enjoyed the walk each day through the Monkey Forest to get there (at night we always took a taxi home). My 3 year old son loved watching the monkeys through the big glass windows upstairs and even had some special moments when young monkeys approached the windows and touched hands with him through the glass. The house itself is well equipped and is cleaned/ serviced each day by two staff who arrive around 8am and stay until 6pm. The house is multi-level and there are steps going into each room, so it may be an problem for those with mobility issues, or very young children. The bath is huge and my son enjoyed "swimming" in it (although there is limited hot water, this wasn't much of an issue as a cool bath/ shower was welcomed!). We only used the swimming pool a couple of times, but enjoyed being able to access it when needed. The Coffee and Copper cafe next door (where breakfast is served) was delicious and convenient. We appreciated the support provided by Desak in arranging very reasonably priced airport pickups and in stopping by to check on how we were getting on in Ubud. Wayan (who cleans the house each day) was very lovely and always happy to help us out with information and tasks (such as dropping off/ collecting our washing). Overall, a very unique experience and recommended to those who are looking for something a bit different from the usual accommodation offered in Bali.
Sonja thank you so much for your lovely review and your appreciation of the fact that Looking Glass House is a very special place to stay. The house is does indeed have a charming configuration and we agree the mezzanine ladder stairs make the upper level best suited to children over 4, although the large downstairs suite is very accessible for all ages. We welcome you back any time and wanted to let you know that we have now installed a continuous hot water system so there should be plenty of hot water on demand even for that huge luxurious bathtub. Hope to see you again soon.
Our stay was great, we enjoyed this cute and stylish house, right next to the monkey forest. Desak was a very kind host and even though we didn't get to see her in person, we were allowed a late check out and the breakfast in the nearby cafe was delicious - loved the fried noodles.
If you stay here, you should definitely dine and the nearby restaurant - Laka Leke. It's very Balinese and you feel very local. We were there for dinner and got to experience the Cacak show - a must see.
I love meeting new people and although I have not travelled outside of Bali myself I feel I have experienced so much of the world through the people I meet here. I am very close to my brothers partner from Australia who is a well known interior designer and who has helped me enormously with the setting up of Looking Glass House and who has taught me the importance of creating a real escape for our guests as well as paying attention to detail.. It has been such a project of passion for all my family and I am so looking forward to sharing it with the AirBN'B guests.
