Chloe, Rusty's assistant met us at the airport and gave us plenty of useful information during our trip to the apartment. The apartment was a little further away from the tourist areas than expected but the facilities at the complex were more than adequate. When we had a question, Chloe was always quick to respond and was very helpful. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
The flat is nice, it is basically as advertised.
If you are in HCMC only for a coupleof days, I advise you to look at a location that is closer to district 1. I have also stayed in another
airbnb flat, much closer, it is a difference.
District 7 is quite far from everything. It rarely takes less than 30 min with the cab to or from the district 1. During rush hours, it can be 45 min. The quickest was a little above 20 minutes.
So, if you want to spend your day in the city, then come back, refresh for the evening and go out, this means that you spend around 1.5-2 hrs in a cab. Also you pay about 5 bucks per ride, so that would be an additional 10 bucks at least per day, 20 in the aforementioned example.
If you want to immerse more into the life in the city, like me, then the place is good for that. Local, but not too local, I'd describe it for Western (website hidden) the apartment, the sofa has seen better days.
The kitchen I'd personally throw out or at least should be thoroughly cleaned, the pans and other stuff in the kitchen should be certainly trashed. The AC works, but there is none in the living room. Just a fan, which worked fine.
The cleanliness is not great. The corners in the bathroom, for example and some other stuff is just not clean.
Not terrrible, but with a little effort it can be that much better. Internet works well in the living room and first bedroom, in the second one it's out. Warm water is working in the second bathroom.
Chloe, the manager, is very friendly and helpful with quick response times. Rusty is also available in case of questions.
Summarized, for some people, some of the aforementioned things might be hindrances, but I enjoyed my stay. Thank you for your hospitality, Rusty!
It was great place to stay in HCMC. Rusty is so nice person. The apartment is not close to center, but quiet and peaceful. I loved that apartment and feel very comfortable. If i have a chance to visit HCMC again, i will choose this AIRBNB again! Thanks :-)
Rusty seems like a pretty chill, laid-back guy.
For me, this translated into a guest experience that was easygoing and relaxed, with none of the uptight protectiveness that I imagine some hosts must rightfully feel about their properties. This was my first airbnb experience, though, so that's just hypothesizing.
Rusty's assistant property manager An helped me get a 3G SIM card with more than enough data for two weeks at a total cost of USD 7.50, and Rusty helped me rent a scooter and recommended a tailor with what seemed to me very reasonable prices.
The two of them were attentive throughout my stay, and I was able to ask questions as they came up.
The complex is a little older but nice and full of families, and the apartment was nice and with a great breeze on a high floor; I mostly had no need for the air conditioning. The wifi router was brand new and the connection speed was good. A taxi downtown was generally just over USD 5 and always immediately available. It was easy to find my way home, as the route from downtown involves just one main road. There was 24/7 security, and a nice Vietnamese restaurant/billiard cafe just downstairs with a varied menu at reasonable prices and a friendly and interesting English-speaking owner. The grocery store had everything I needed. The pool and gym charge small fees, but nothing prohibitive. Only one of the apartment's two bathrooms has a hot water heater, but this wasn't a concern for me. The complex has a Korean market. There was also a big Lotte grocery and movie complex a short drive away, near which were a ton of cool open-air night restaurants.
While to be honest I thought the apartment could have been a little cleaner, this was by no means a dealbreaker; this apartment, with its size and design, is a great value. I spoke with Rusty about my concerns, and he seemed very concerned. Perhaps he simply had been unable to verify the attentiveness of his cleaning staff.
All in all a good first airbnb experience.
We had a great stay in Ho Chi Minh. The apartment is well located in district 7, about a 100k Dong taxi from district 1. There is a taxi rank outside the apartment complex which is very handy.
The apartment itself was very comfortable for the 4 of us. It's on the 22nd floor with great views of the pool (which was enormous!). The rooms were spacious and we all slept very well. The kitchen was well equipped and we could use the washing machine.
We were welcomed by 'An' who looks after the property and she was incredibly helpful throughout our stay and was a great source of local information. There was no hot water throughout the apartment during our stay but this was not an issue for us.
I highly recommend this apartment to anyone who is headed to this beautiful city!
We enjoyed our stay at Rusty's place. There where 4 of us and the place was spacious and comfortable.
We were late arriving at the apartment but the care taker Ms. An arranged for someone to be waiting to get us settled in.
We never needed more than 15 min to get into town by taxi, and we traveled back and forth nearly every day.
It is about 5 to 6 USD from apartment to city center, so if your staying for more than a few days it can add up, but its not that bad especially if your traveling with 4 people.
The apartment is nice and quiet, and the area seems quite safe. I like to jog, so in the evening I went for a run around the complex and their were quite a few people going for walks, it was very nice.
My wife liked that you could call one of the shops down stairs and they would bring the food up to the apartment.
And there is also a pretty decent supermarket downstairs. All in all we enjoyed our stay, and would be happy to stay there again if ever in Ho Chi Minh. We felt it was a great value.

About the Host, Rusty
I'm American, have been living and working in Vietnam for 4 years and I love Saigon. It has just the right mix of the alien-edginess, fast-pace, and good vibes for me.
The rest of Vietnam has everything to fit any style-- from lazy deserted beaches to romantic mountain valley towns, huge caves and jungles, national parks, and river cruises (and more!)
Before Vietnam I lived in Prague for several years. I love travel, film, sports, and current events / sociology.
