Oops! My computer is on the fritz, so I may not be able to get back to you right away, but I will respond to all messages. So sorry, in advance, for any delays.
Greetings! We are so happy that you are thinking of staying with us. If you are new to Airbnb: Welcome! Please read our listing very carefully so that you know what is included and what is not included. We include a wonderful breakfast and two Aquarium guest passes; together, these can save you over $80, making the cost of this room the best bargain in the Monterey Bay area! Be sure to read our 120+ reviews from happy guests!
This is a new listing for us, but it is just a combination of our two other listings. There are only a few reviews for this combo, but feel free to read the other reviews, and they will tell you lots about these rooms.
We have started back to school, and are asking for a two night minimum stay during the school year. If you really want to stay with us for just one night, please email us and we will check to see if it is possible.
We have two guest passes for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, so if you are planning to go there, we can save you some big money: tickets are normally $35 for each adult, so this is a $70 savings! We are happy to loan out the passes, as long as we get them back. The money you save on the Aquarium tickets will almost pay for one of the rooms! : -)
Because we only have two guest passes, and they can only be used once a day, they are available on a "first come, first served" basis. Because we have two rooms that we rent out, please request the day that you would like the passes when you make your actual room reservation. If the availability of the passes is a "deal breaker" for you, send an inquiry first to check on their availability.
PLEASE read the entire description before you book with us. Yes, the room is less expensive than most Airbnb rooms in the area (and MUCH cheaper than the other hosts in the area who offer Aquarium passes), but be sure that you understand why. Our family home is cozy and comfortable, but not huge ... in fact it is rather small by American standards. It is a family home, with a dog, and a cat, and a pre-teenager obsessed with dance, and mail piling up, and a mom who is a teacher who has lots of papers to grade ... our home is clean, but sometimes a bit disorganized.
Check-in is usually after 3 PM. If you need to arrive earlier, we can usually accommodate your needs. Check-out time is flexible.
IMPORTANT: you won't have the whole house to yourself. My daughter and I will be sleeping in my office (the third bedroom). You will have our other two bedrooms. We will all be sharing the kitchen, dining room, and the bathroom. This is family style living!
The first bedroom is my daughter Gabby's room. This small bedroom has a queen size bed that is VERY comfortable. This room is slightly down the hall from the shared bathroom. Please note that this is a young girl's room. It is decorated with pictures of horses and other animals. It is not very sophisticated, but it is comfortable and clean.
The floor in this room will accommodate a twin size air bed, making it possible to fit three people in this room. You could fit four people (bring your own air bed for the fourth person, and we will only charge $10 per night for the 4th person), however, with four people, it will be REALLY cozy with almost no room to walk around! (Just trying to be honest!) We are family friendly, but not baby or toddler-proofed.
The second room is my bedroom. This room is decorated with many photos, especially nature photos taken by my mother. It is my bedroom. This VERY small bedroom (approx. 10 feet by 10 feet, or 3.2 meters by 3.2 meters) has a queen size Temper-Pedic bed that is VERY comfortable. The room is really only for two adults, but there is room enough for a small child, either in a port-a-crib, or sharing the bed with the adults. There is a table in the room that you can set things on. This room is directly across the hall from the shared bathroom.
The bathroom has a shower / tub, and there is a bit of storage space for you in the bathroom closet. The bathroom is shared with my daughter and me, so we will need to coordinate bathroom time on school days. If you forgot any toiletries, or you just want to try our yummy smelling body wash, please help yourself. We have a hair dryer that you may use.
Because the bathroom is shared by so many, our room rate is a bit lower than the others in the area. However, we have not found sharing the bathroom to be a problem, nor have past guests found it to be a problem. For my daughter's birthday party, we regularly have 10 - 15 girls overnight every year, and it always seems to work out OK, so a few Airbnb guests are no big deal!
Some of the listings compare themselves to a boutique hotel. Staying with us is more like visiting relatives: you get the parent's room and the child's room, nothing fancy, but comfortable. Remember, we are not a hotel ... this is a family home. We will need to enter the rooms, from time-to-time, to get things. We will work together to make this as unobtrusive as possible. We are family friendly, but not baby or toddler-proofed.
Why are we doing this? We like meeting new people from all over. We also like to travel. And, my daughter is a dancer: lessons, costumes, and dance shoes keep us on a tight budget. By booking with us, you are helping Gabby keep dancing!
Be sure to check My Guidebook on "Monterey area + 2 Aquarium ticket" with lots of local recommendations!
The kitchen is available to you, provided you clean-up after yourself. We have a gas stove top, oven, toaster oven, microwave, and dish washer. There will be room for you in the refrigerator, if you need it. We also have a very nice gas grill on the patio outside the kitchen.
On school mornings we will set out a breakfast for you, but we will probably be running off to school/work. However, you are welcome to help yourself to breakfast items in the house; we will show you the night before. Just clean-up after yourselves and we'll be all good!
Most of the time, our schedule does allow us to make breakfast for you; we will keep you informed as to our schedule. Most weekends we make breakfast for everyone: coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice, croissants, cheeses, yogurt, and fresh fruit. We love to entertain. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions to the items listed, and we will work to accommodate your needs.
If you don't need breakfast, let us know, and we can take $5
off the room rate, per person ... although who can pass up fresh baked croissants and hot coffee, while still in your jammies??? : )
From the outside, the house doesn't look like much. In fact, it is kind of ugly. It is a part of an older, military housing neighborhood, but inside our home is filled with love.
We do have a small, very friendly dog (Bella), and a somewhat friendly cat (Ginger). Sorry, but we cannot accommodate your pet ... two pets are enough for us! If you have pet allergies, this is not the house for you.
NEWS FLASH: Thanks to a wonderful guest, we just got wi-fi!!! We've been pirating for years, so this is a REALLY big deal for us. : ) If you have AT&T service, be warned that many guests have said that our neighborhood has very weak reception for AT&T.
We only have over the air TV reception, no cable, no satellite. This is such a beautiful area, with so much to do ... so we don't spend a lot of time with our TV or computer. We do have a DVD player.
Our home is a duplex. We never hear the neighbors talking or other noises, but we do sometimes feel/hear the vibrations of them walking on the wood floors of our shared home site. My daughter's room shares a common wall with our neighbors.
If you are a cycling enthusiast, our location is EXCELLENT! CCCX (Central Coast Cyclo-Cross) hosts cross-country mountain bike and road racing events literally in our backyard. The start line for the road races is just steps from our home. Check out their website for their race schedule: (website hidden)
If you are a car, motorcycle, or bicycle racing enthusiast, we are just minutes from Laguna Seca Raceway. Check out their website for their race scheudle: (website hidden)
If you like to golf, we are less than a mile from Bayonet & Black Horse golf course, 36 holes of great golf! See their website for more info: (website hidden) . In addition, there are loads of amazing golf courses in the area.
Our home is located in a VERY safe neighborhood. It used to be an active military base: Fort Ord. Our neighbors are mostly military families attached to the Defense Language Institute and the Naval PostGraduate School. Here are a few websites:
Our backyard is the nation's newest national monument: Fort Ord National Monument. Check out this link for more info: (website hidden)_ord/index.html
Downtown Monterey is 10 minutes drive, and you can be in Carmel in 20 minutes. Within a few minutes you can be at numerous world-class restaurants.
Since the websites are blocked in this listing, if you are interested, I will email you the actual web addresses.
Teri was a wonderful host and was very accommodating to our group's needs. It is very apparent that a lot of thought and effort were put into the listing.
The rooms were clean, the breakfast was very satisfying and healthy, and Teri's company was enjoyable.
Overall this was a great value for a great experience.
Teri and Gabby were a perfect fit for my wife and 16 year old son plus a 1 friend. We enjoyed our experience so much. The beds were so comfy, Temperpedic is a brand we'll look into!! It's great to stay with Teri as she is very much a great mom, family person, teacher, and wise business woman. Let's not forget that her breakfasts were perfect, just right and a nice variety of cheese (try the Toscana), fruit, yogurt, croissants, scones, veggies, sausages, etc!! The breakfast table is a time you do not want to miss, lots of enjoyable conversation. Teri's daughter, Gabby, is a very engaging young lady that smiles and enjoys being around people and kids her age and older. She is an advanced dancer who excels at ballet. Our family consists of sons so we enjoyed learning about Pointe shoes :-)
When we arrived a key was waiting with instructions to make ourselves at home as Teri was picking up Gabby from dance lessons. We met Bella, our host dog, who's tail never stops wagging at Ferrari speeds and never, ever barks. Ginger, the host cat, thinks she is God's gift to humanity. We love animals and have our own cats and dog, so being around a house with 2 great pets just added to our weekend.
Being a teacher myself, I have tons of respect for Teri as she is an 8th grade history teacher. She can multi-task between teaching, AirBnb'ing, and being a great mom and family woman. She has lots of interesting things to offer the lucky ones who stay with her and Gabby. I give her my highest recommendation!
We stayed just one night at Teri & Gabby's; but they (& their sweet little dog, Bella) made us feel really welcome despite there being 5 of us and so we somewhat took over their home!
We really appreciated the tickets to the aquarium, it's a great place to go & we could have spent longer there than the 2 hours that we had. We also took Teri & Gabby's advice for a place to eat & went to a local sea food restaurant which we all enjoyed.
They were great hosts, the rooms were comfortable and we particularly appreciated the chocolates! They left for school & work before we got up but they were very quiet and didn't disturb us at all.... The breakfast they left was lovely.
Teri was really good at communicating with us before we stayed and the details that they give on the airbnb site really do reflect the accommodation they provide.
Overall we had a really positive experience staying at Teri & Gabbys and it was great for us as Brits to stay with a real American family & not just in faceless motels!
Thank you Teri & Gabby....
Teri was an amazing host with a beautiful and cozy home that made my first airbnb experience an awesome one! Teri was extremely accommodating regarding unforeseen changes in our reservation and was extremely considerate of me and my friends' needs during our stay. Bella, their adorable dog, was incredibly calm and an absolute joy to play with. Teri is a great host and I recommend her listings to anyone looking for a comfortable stay!
Fantastiskt!
We had an absolutely lovely time with Teri and Gabby. Teri baked fresh croissants and coffee cake for breakfast, made amazing fruit salad, and was a sweet, thoughtful hostess. Both rooms were comfortable and clean, with good beds and good pillows. Bella the dog is so loving, and Ginger the cat is wonderful and has the softest tail.
Four of us stayed with Teri and Gabby for 3 days and 2 nights in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. We had a blast! Teri prepares delicious meals, Gabby is a fantastic conversationalist, and both of them create a very warm and loving atmosphere. We had a great time throughout. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom is clean/tidy, and the home is relaxing. I have used AirBnB a few times and this was exactly as I had hoped... I would strongly recommend coming here if you're thinking about exploring the area. We ended up going on some incredible hikes and saw beautiful marine life (we borrowed Teri's binoculars). Teri packed us a fruit salad to take on the road and it was delicious... Between good conversation, tasty food, and a wonderful place to stay...what more can you ask for?
