We strive to make this self-serve guest house a comfortable place to spend a week or a weekend with family or friends. Simply but adequately furnished rooms with attention to cleanliness, home-baked goodies, and downtown location make it unique. Please review the house rules carefully before making your reservation request.

The space
The only self-serve guest house in downtown Romney, this 2-bedroom home is located 1 block from Main Street and adjacent to the historic Wilson-Wodrow-Mytinger House. Beautiful hardwood floors, simply furnished bedrooms (1 queen room, 1 room with 2 twin beds, crib available), living room, dining room and kitchen make this a perfect home away from home. Guests enjoy serve-yourself breakfast from the fridge and home-baked bread. Restaurants, library (with internet), churches and shops are only a short walk away.

If you are looking for accommodations right in downtown Romney, this is the perfect spot. It is a great choice for travelers wanting more than just a room. The guest house is within walking distance of restaurants, boutique shopping, banks, the library, and the visitor's center just at the corner of Gravel and High Streets.

History buffs will enjoy a trip to the Civil War Trenches site just outside of Romney which offers a self-guided tour with fascinating information about this location during the battles between the North and South. These are the best-preserved trenches of their kind in the country. You'll also be staying next door to the oldest house in Romney/oldest public building still standing in West Virginia. Your hosts can help guide you to other places of interest.

For those of you looking for outdoor adventure, there is great hiking on all the wildlife management areas near Romney. They are all listed on the Hampshire County Visitors Bureau website. The C&O Canal bike path is another option about 45 minutes away. The Appalachian Trail is a bit further away -- about an hour if you start in Wardensville, WV. One really neat spot is Ice Mountain run by The Nature Conservancy in Slanesville, WV, about a 35 minute drive from Romney. You need to contact TNC for access. If you are making a winter trip, there are about 3 locations within 2 hrs for downhill skiing or tubing -- Wisp(in Maryland), and Canaan Valley and Timberline in WV. If you like cross-country skiing, you would probably love New Germany State Park in Maryland (about an hour plus away).

For those who hunt or fish, opportunities are abundant for both on public lands. We can help you with contacts.

We do our best to add a unique touch to your stay by offering breakfast items which include home-baked goodies. There will be wine and cheese when you arrive to accompany our own french bread. We incorporate many green actions such as line-drying laundry, recycling, and buying local when possible.

Because we are very busy with our regular jobs and lives and live outside of Romney, we do need some advance notice to accommodate guests.
