ABOUT PAYMENT:
Many ask about the price and extra fees and how to pay. When you put in the dates and number of people you will get our total cost. There are no taxes or cleaning fees on top of this, but AirBnB adds their fee. It varies between 6-12% on top of our price.

All the payments are safely made with credit card to AirBnB when booking. They hold the money until the day you check in and will then transfer it to us.

Bookings with us are done with the "strict" cancellation policy and all cancellations should be done through AirBnB. This being said, if we manage to re-rent the place the nights you have canceled we can give a bigger refund to you than what the strict cancellation policy dictates. The earlier you cancel the bigger the chance that we will find other guests.

DEPOSIT is for keys and will be refunded by AirBnb once keys are returned.

To confirm that you have read the entire description, please include the secret word "vanderbilt" in your inquiry to me.

Please note that 11am check out strictly enforced - we must be here to collect your keys to ensure prompt return of your deposit money. If you are leaving NYC later than check out, you can store your baggage at Schwartz Travel in Manhattan.

Interaction with Guests

I'll welcome you and check in during your stay, but leave you alone to explore the city. Don't hesitate to call me if you need anything, I have lots of recommendations and am happy to help!

The Neighborhood

The Neighborhood:

Our neighborhood is residential, well lit and has very low crime. Being very close to the Hudson River that separates it from Manhattan makes this a top location to enjoy Manhattan’s breathtaking skyline, day or night.

I regularly walk alone at night (even very late) and have never had a problem. The residential street is very well lit in the evenings.

Getting around

About Transportation: I have received many questions from people who don't believe it possible to be outside of Manhattan and so close to it, yet it's true. Here are some facts about transportation:
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

1. Apartment is 5 minutes (5 blocks) from the 24/7 bus to Times Square and 1 block from the city bus #159 (stops at 1am).
2. The "chicken" bus is very frequent, I rarely wait for it more than 2 to 3 minutes. Most of the time you won't even wait at all. You will step to the bus stop and a bus will be there.
3. Buses are available 24/7 so you can catch them even when you spend the whole evening out.
4-The price of these express buses is $3 onboard, and $2.50 if you buy tickets at ticket window #23 at Port Authority Bus Terminal
5. You won't find these buses timetable or route on the internet, it's a private bus company that runs many lines in and out of Manhattan.

Other Things to Note

Lots of great dining options a few blocks away, including a number of BYOB places. Huge supermarket a 5 min walk away. Many smaller markets nearby.

  • We think that staying at Union City was the best choice to visit NYC. It is near the city but quiet and relaxing when you come back home .The chicken bus service is wonderful. Maria and Jay are amazing hosts, always available to our questions and needs. The house is exactly as you see in the photos. We are 7 people and we enjoyed so much staying at this house. Although the weather was colder than we expect, we had all we need to feel warm and comfortable. If we return to NYC this will be without doubt our first choice.

  • Renting this place was as seemless and smooth as it can get. We were 8 people checking in here for a week, and it was all good, we are very satisified with our stay!
The location is good enough as long as you don't mind some public transportation to get into Manhattan. Finding the right bus stop and the right bus will take you straight downtown in half an hour from you walk out the door.

  • My stay at Maria's place was awesome. Her house was absolutely gorgeous, and most importantly it was clean! She provided everything and more; we were able to feed ourselves the first morning because she had kindly left breakfast foods for us. We thought that was a great touch that cemented the fact that Maria was a great host. The location of the apartment is in a bit of a disappointing neighborhood and parking was a bit of a hassle. Overall, I would have to say that the stay was great.

  • We have stayed in vacation rentals all over the world (Belgium, Czech Republic, Iceland, Austria, Hungary, California, Colorado). And while almost all of our experiences have been positive, Maria was the best host we have ever encountered. The apartment was VERY clean, communication was excellent, hospitality was well above our expectations, and after having some of our own travel problems, Maria jumped in and was understanding and accommodating. We certainly know where we will stay the next time we are in the New York area. The location was perfect for us! The bus ride to Times Square is so easy and quick (15 minutes tops) and since we flew into and out of Newark that was also very convenient (not to mention the great transportation to and from the airport - Thanks Jay!). Once again the apartment was perfect and the photos don't even do it justice. You cannot go wrong by staying here!

  • great apartment to house 2 couples &1 family with 2 kids..The kitchen was well-equipped and the food provided in the fridge was really welcomes. Grocery shops are so closed by and it is also convenient for shopping. Chicken bus was so reliable. Maria was so sweet, she made it a point to meet up with her guest at least once and upon asking if everything was allright, she will proceed to try her very best to provide you with additional things you need. Thanks Maria!

  • My family (4 adults and a 2 year old daugthher) stayed at this full flat during the period around the New York Marathon.

We literally said couple of times to each other how happy we were with the choice made for this house during our stay.

The house was clean, spacious and a home away from home. Manhattan was very easily and quickly reachable with the " chicken bus".

The host was very attentive and really thought with us to make our stay even more pleasant.

Maria and Jay, thank you so much!

  • at first i wanna say thank you to maria and jay for everything!
they were wonderful hosts. they were so kind to pick us up at the airport.

we traveled with 5 people to the apartment and we had a great time.
the apartment was very big and clean!
it is about 15-20 minutes to port authority terminal wirh the "chicken bus" after a 5 minute walk. it seemed to us,that we're staying in a quiet and safe neighborhood.
all in all the apartment was perfect for our sightseeing tour in new york and we highly recomand it.
next time visiting new york, maria's apartment will be again our first choice!

    September 2013
  • The apartment is huge, 3 good sized bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms with a powder room downstairs in the living area, great dining/sitting area and spacious kitchen with all mod cons.

There was food in the kitchen for our arrival and Maria bought some extra food just in case; very thoughtful.

Convenient location near shopping and bus transport to Manhattan.

Maria responded to any questions we had very quickly and helped to make our stay enjoyable.

Certainly a home away from home; thanks very much Maria.

  • First of all, I'd like to say Jay and Maria was all kind of awesome! They were very accommodating and made sure we feel right at home. Free shuttle service from airport to the apartment was much appreciated because we had so many luggages and upon arrival, my friends and I were pleasantly surprised that the place looked exactly the same as the pictures.

There were altogether 8 of us and we managed to integrate quickly and comfortably into the place. Getting to and fro Times Squares was mad easy! We had no issues with transportation because we practically didn't have to wait for the chicken bus.

The entire apartment was well furnished and we loved the decor and the fact that there were more than enough space to sit all of us at the dining hall! We loved the kitchen! It has literally everything and we whipped up dinner for ourselves for 2 days straight!

Maria also went the extra mile to prepare food for us in the refrigerator and they were truly god-sent because we were super lazy to head out after a long flight. She came back the next day to top up bread for us too! All of us were super touched by their gestures and we agreed that we couldn't have stayed in a better place in NY.

Thank you once again, Jay and Maria for everything you've done for us! We will definitely be coming back if we ever visit NYC again! :)

To everyone else: If you are thinking of booking a nice apartment at a convenient location to stay in with your group of friends, this is it!

  • We were really really tired when we reached this place. We had a long drive form Indianapolis to NJ and we reached their at almost 4:30 in morning. But when we entered, it took all my tiredness and anxiety away. The house is quite welcoming and gave a feel that we had reached New York. The size is sufficient for 7 person and kitchen was filled with sufficient amount of breakfast for a day. Bedrooms were comfy and bathrooms were nice and clean.

The house is if not very far but considerably distant from the nearest subway station. First day regardless of guidelines given by host, we went by subway as we thought it would be comfortable, but the fact is it was not. Next day we tried bus and it was really nice.

Maria (Our Host) is a sweetheart :):).. Her instructions were always detailed and clear. She even came and met us, gave few more useful tips to select our attractions and we had a click together.. :).

Overall our stay in this house was very nice.

About
We have a number of listings, so please take a look at all of our places for availability. Simply click on the link at the bottom left which says see all listings. Each of our listings has very easy access into Times Square - we are big advocates of our local bus service which we call the "chicken bus". Buses run every 5 min, 24/7 to Times Square. Take a look at our guest reviews to see what travelers say about getting in and out of NYC. We are not agents, my husband, Jay and I take care of guests full time! We are Canadians living in the US, and are well traveled ourselves and know how important a good nights sleep is while you're away. We will make sure that you are comfortable here.
