This independent apartment lies in the grounds of a beautiful lodge in Peru's Sacred Valley. With views of the passing Vilcanota river and the Apu Pitusiray moutain range, and extensive gardens with agricultural land surrounding the entire site this is a peaceful and private place to spend a few days. We're perfectly situated at the centre of all the local attractions and archaeological sites, a short taxi ride from Ollantaytambo train station, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
A stay here is a chance to get away from the busy tours and tourist-traps that many find themselves in during a trip to the Cuzco region. It's such a beautiful country and the Sacred Valley is awe-inspiring, but many end up in the busy towns of Urubamba, Pisaq, Calca or Ollantaytambo, which, whilst they have their charms and sights, don't always offer peace and quiet.
We're lucky enough to have uninterrupted views of nature and our town's demographics (local farmers and tradesmen) means you get a more authentic slice of local life. You can pop to the local shop and get a drink or some fruit, chat to the ladies selling hot food on the roadside or just wander along the river among the eucalyptus trees.
We're ideally located, far enough from the crowds to make a stay here unique and private, but close enough to everything to make your stay convenient too. Everyone passing through the valley goes to Machu Picchu eventually and we're less than 45 minutes from the station.
Local taxis are very good and we have excellent contacts who can take you anywhere you want to go and even collect you from Cuzco airport if you wish. If you're more adventurous and feel like taking local transport you can catch a 'colectivo' to local towns and there's even a bus that will take you all the way to Cuzco for 4 soles. It really is amazing value and you can have some great conversations on the way depending on your level of Spanish.
We're not a large town so there are no supermarkets or bright lights, the night skies are stunningly crisp and clear and people who enjoy the sound of the wind and the river passing by will sleep like babies.
And if you're up for some adventure we have an excellent relationship with adventure tourism specialist Munaycha who can arrange kayaking, mountain-biking and horse-riding as well as traditional tours of local sites and Machu Picchu. Just let us know if that's something you'd be interested in and we'll arrange it for you.
My family and I stayed at the Qawana Lodge for 3 nights because it is an ideal location to stay while seeing Machuu Piccu (MP). The lodge is 1 hour from Cusco airport and 30 minutes to the train station to MP. It is a beautiful lodge in a lovely valley next to a roaring river. The nature there is the best. I was privileged to me the owner (Peter), the chef (Jann), and the manager (Marc). These guys treated my family and myself wonderfully and all speak fluent English. They arranged taxis to MP train and to Cusco airport and we very helpful with local knowledge. The rooms in the lodge are large and comfortable and clean. the wifi is excellent and the food and service at the restaurant was excellent. The chef personally waited on us and recommended several very tasty local dishes. Btw Qawana is about to expand its restaurant and add a beautiful indoor/outdoor seating area for 100s of ppl.
I highly recommend Qawana Lodge. We could have stayed there for 2 weeks it was so peaceful and nice.
Hi Dana, how are you?
Thanks for your comments! It was a pleasure to have you here and to meet your family. Hope everything is fine back at home.
We have been very busy this days with lots of groups, so I still haven't gone to the lake. Hopefully at the begining of september.
You take care and regards to your family.
All the best,
