Other Things to Note
We are a Swiss-Nepali family and since December 2013 we have a new Family member our dog Sukre and since November 2014 dog Fluffy.
Dilli,Susan and all in their family were amazing hosts who went out of their way to make my friend and me feel at home. They were welcoming, helpful, and generous. The room was clean and comfortable and the food provided was delicious. Their home is in a quite and safe residential area and has a very good local feel. It has a local bus and taxi stand at a distance of less than 5 minutes from where regular buses to Thamel and connecting buses to other tourist places are available. They made perfect arrangement for my trek and the guide (raj) was knowledgeable and helpful. They took great care of my friend while I was away. We enjoyed sitting together for dinner with the 3 generations of family living under the spacious and comfortable home. The dinner conversations were interesting, funny and helped us learn a lot about Nepali culture. Their dogs Shukrey and Fluffy are very playfull and I miss them already. Their home is at a high altitude and requires a bit of a steady slope climbing, which was a cause of concern for my friend who had a back problem which made her skip the trek. For me however, the trek started from home ;)
I would love to stay at their home and trek with them the next time I am in Nepal.
We stayed at 360 degrees Kathmandu, the correspondence was great seeing the owners was in Switzerland.
The family was hospitable and we ate a hearty meal with them, the view amazing but this is where the positive stops.
We are not like a typical tourist; we are travelling the world by motorbike, staying in tents and hostels. The room was clean, but the beds are so hard ( we are used to sleeping on air mattresses. It was like sleeping on a plank. The neighbour’s dogs barked all night which made the owners dog join in. The owners dog decide to come into the bathroom whilst I was in there, also into our bedroom, had to be dragged out twice in the middle of the night The shower is cold unless you have sunshine that day. The bathroom is not attached at all, it is shared.
Would we stay there again the answer is no: too far from town NRS 500… dogs barking all night, hard beds and we had to ask for bathroom towels twice. They was no bigger than a hand towel. Sorry to be so harsh but realistic
We had an amazing experience at Susann and Dilli's!
The house has obviously an awesome view and another advantage is the location away from the noise and agitation of the center. But the greater thing at their place is the fact that you feel like spending time with family :). They are welcoming and generous people who always have positive energy and do their best to make you enjoy your stay. We had dinner every night at their table and the food was delicious, cooked and shared with the heart. We totally recommend their home.
We are very grateful to them :)
Dilli and Susann have been really wonderful. From welcoming me to their home, making me feel at ease to arranging my Poon Hill trek and allowing some flexibility for changes due to my tight schedule and fitness level, everything was just perfect. They were friendly and open and it was fun talking to them and understanding more about their lives here in Nepal. I get to see how they prepare food in the kitchen and the dhal bhat was the best tasting ones you can ever get! If you stay here, do get Dilli to show u some card tricks!
It was heartwarming to meet Dilli & Susann and their lovely family. I spent six days, with my brother, getting to know them, and the Kathmandu area. They were really helpful towards us from the day one, getting us Nepalese sim-cards, telling about local culture, showing good places to eat and so on. Even for us shy Finns, it was surprisingly easy to connect with the family. Dilli’s entertaining nature and Susann’s way to understand different ways of thinking certainly made things easier.
The room and bathroom were clean, spacious and there were enough blankets even for the colder nights of Kathmandu. The area was around four kilometers north from Thamel, and slightly away from the voices of the streets, so it was relaxing to return there after a day walking around the city.
I feel we made new friends in Nepal.
Kathmandu means to us beeing with Dilli and Susann and their familiy. They hosted us from the first moment on like real friends and took really good care of us. We enjoyed every day their warm hospitality and the priceless view over Kathmandu.
The neighbourhood is totally authentic. The local people around are very friendly and helpful. You get everything you need very close around. Its the perfect spot to have a local Kathmandu experience. Dilli and Susann can help with tips and tricks.
Thank you both so much for the perfect stay..we already miss you all, even Shukri and Fluffy :) We will see each other again!
We are since 2005 a Swiss-Nepalicouple and since 2012 we are staying permanently here in Kathmandu. Dilli is a Trekking Guide since around 15 years. Susann was an Accountant bevor she came to Nepal.
We are happy and straightforward people, who likes to show you the private side of Nepal
