I enjoyed every minute of staying in Elwood's and Momi's place. They really make me feel welcomed and I had the chance to learn a lot of the beautiful Hawaiian culture and music. My room was very spacious and there was a big living room next to the kitchen which I could use, as well. So, I can highly recommend Elwood's and Momi's house. Mahalo for everything!
This is such an awesome place to stay if you want to share with a true Hawaiian family. Elwood is super friendly and happy to share with his guests. He taught us a lot about their culture (and even taught us hulas and played ukelele for us!).
The house is exactly as described. The place is super quiet and relaxing. The room was clean and comfortable.
Our host was very welcoming and friendly with great local advice and tips on what to do and see in the area. Elwood let us use snorkel gear and a surf board for the day, which was very helpful.
Every morning there was a nice breakfast waiting for us in the common area. We had a great time and hope to come back to the island. Waimea is an excellent location for those that want to stay away from busy crowded touristy locations. Thanks to Momi and Elwood for the accommodations.
The stay with the Machado family was great! They were helpful with advice on traveling around the island since I did not have a car. I spent a lot of time hiking and exploring and I recommend booking a hiking tour with their son, so you can be driven to all the great hiking spots of the NaPali and Waimea Canyon areas.
Elwood and Momi were welcoming in sharing their home with us. They let us borrow a backpack, boogie boards, and snorkel gear. Their place is much more charming than appears in the profile picture with lots of Hawaiian accents. It was nice to have a good space as a home base and our hosts were good about giving us space. They live in the house, but they don't seem to use the same part that is rented out. They were very responsive to any requests we had. The location is a great place to get to the hiking in waimea canyon and to be away from the touristy (trafficked) parts of town.
It was easy to find the way to elwood and momi machados house. The rooms are nice and there's a kitchen to use. To walk into town it takes at least twenty minutes. There are little possibilities to eat out, but there are supermarkets around. Elwood and momi are very welcoming and warmhearted and it was great staying with them.
