Your own private beachfront, your own private jungle, a most peaceful and romantic setting. The upper level (1200 sq. ft.) living space is in a rainforest Wildlife Refuge on the Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica. The house is nestled in 2 1/2 acres of tall forest canopy. The rental space is the entire second floor of our 2-story house, and has a master bedroom with a 4-poster netted full-size bed. The second bedroom/study also has a full-size netted bed. A large, covered deck, with a built-in full kitchen, faces the ocean. It is a short one minute walk to the beach and a 15-minute walk on the beach to the town of Manzanillo. Caretakers live on the lower level with a completely separate entrance. Wi fi is available at the house. If you need anything--from a bike to a coconut--just ask Henry, our caretaker.
Walk across the front yard to a beautiful sandy beach; stroll along the path across the walking bridge through the private canopied forest; or read, write, talk, or just relax on the deck or inside the house. During the day the fresh ocean breezes caress you. At night forest breezes drift down to cool you. A lovely sandy beach fronts the property, and our private 2 ½ acre rainforest with huge trees envelops the house. Dinner on the deck at night in the beautifully flowered jungle garden is a truly unique experience. See our website for photos and information.
The wide sandy beach leads directly to the town so there is easy walking access to restaurants, grocery stores, etc. To go further, catch the public bus to Puerto Viejo, other towns, or even San Jose. There is a lot to see and do--great chocolate tours, rainforest hikes, animal rescue center, fishing, boating, swimming, and more.
Getting to the Caribbean coast is not a problem. If you will be arriving in San Jose we can help make your travel from SJO airport to our place easy, pleasant, and very inexpensive.
Direct access to beach, and private rainforest.

Relax, enjoy, explore
Second time here and now a part of our routine. We absolutely love this place!!! there nothing like sitting on the porch, watching a family of howler monkeys and falling to sleep with the sound of birds, cicadas and ocean!.
Henry and Rosi are like family now. Everything is perfect to us. if you're willing to travel this far you will enjoy the beautiful serenity and its rustic charm.( 4x4 recommended during rainy season. RAV4 will suffice. we love the rain...)
Just amazing! Can't wait to return!
Daniel truly has a magical spot. My friend Bic and I drove across country from Portrero. Wonderful, long drive. I contacted Daniel last minute and he responded right away.
The directions are detailed and correct.
Henry and Rosie were expecting our arrival (4hrs late.. sorry again) and met us with a smile.
The Early Bird totally exceeded our expectations! It's hard to express or photograph the magic this place has.
Both rooms are simple and beautiful. The beds are comfortable and have fantastic mosquito nets that made me feel very secure. As the bugs love me. The shower is great! I love the indoor outdoor screened shower and it's totally private too. The patio and view is breathtaking. Our favorite thing to do was wake up early to the thunder and just drink coffee , cool breakfast and look at the 30 ft tall(?) travelers palm tree in front of us or drink beer in the rocking chairs listening to the rain and watching the fireflies. The beach is literally 5 min walk and you can just see the waves through the trees. the kitchen was adorable and you feel like you're camping.
I definitely, definitely recommend a 4wd. We stuck to Manzanillo for food and market. The two restaurants end of the traffic circle on the beach side are great. This is my first time as a guest and IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Looking
forward to our return in October Daniel!
My wife, Rose, and I are retired university professors who have been deeply involved with travel abroad programs and with issues of sustainability. For a decade we have taken students to Costa Rica. We grew to love the Caribbean coast and its people. Ten years ago we bought a beautiful piece of undeveloped beachfront property in a Wildlife Refuge. Five years ago we built our dream vacation (winter) home. Now we have decided to share it with others when we are not in Costa Rica. Our desire is to make guests feel really welcomed and to make their time here very special. We wish to offer a personal, relaxing, and unique experience, not a “commercial" experience.
