Located in beautiful northern California, Petaluma is 30 minutes to the Pacific, forty-five minutes north of San Francisco and a short drive to wine country. A quick 10 minute walk to downtown shops, restaurants and theater, this is a great getaway for your Northern California escape.
The house is large and gives a lot of privacy in the upstairs where you have a queen size bed and a separate, shared bathroom. There is an an additional bath for use if needed. The kitchen is downstairs as well as laundry. Our neighborhood is great for walks with charming architecture to take in and a park just around the block.
There is much to do locally and close by and we'll be happy to make recommendations.
Non smoking home. Prefer quiet time after 11:00 PM. Keyed rooms for security.
As always one of my favorite places to stay in the Bay Area. Sheri and Maurice are wonderful and they always make incredible breakfasts. Beautiful home and very kind people.
On our recent trip to northern California, we stayed in 5 Airbnbs, and Maurice and Sheri's "Wine Country Gateway" was the best in all respects. Staying there is more like staying in a boutique hotel. Their home is beautifully appointed; the second floor bedroom offers privacy and comfort; the home is immaculate; and the gourmet breakfast, replete with fresh fruit, croissants, and frittata, was delicious. In all ways, this couple demonstrates attention to detail.
But more than all these things, we really enjoyed Maurice and Sheri's hospitality. Thank you both so much!
If a television is important to you, know that this home does not offer one in the bedroom. For us, it did not matter.
We will begin with the basics: Sheri and Maurice's listing was perfectly accurate. The quaint bedroom is exactly as pictured and was a wonderful size for two travelers. The bed was spacious and soft and comfortable, and there was plenty of open table and desk tops for the belongings we did not want to rest on the floor. (There was plenty of floor space as well.) The bathroom was large, well lit (there is a lovely skylight that floods the room with light during the morning), and modern.
There were two other guests sharing Sheri and Maurice's hospitality the night we visited, but we did not see them at all and only heard them in the evening.
And now for the more remarkable: Sheri and Maurice made us a fantastic breakfast in the morning (they asked us what time we would like to join them and had breakfast waiting when we wandered down a little early). French-pressed coffee and fresh fruit paired with French-toast and eggs and bacon were what we enjoyed with them. We also enjoyed a long and engaging conversation with them, and what began as a politely shared meal quickly transformed into a warm and welcoming conversation where we each shared our stories and enjoyed listening to the others.
We hated to leave.
This, then, is what makes AirBnB special, and hosts like Maurice and Sheri--who welcome strangers into their homes and in the process, create a whole new (and often wholly unexpected) wonderful experience--are the best examples of why we keep using it.
If we are ever back in the Petaluma area, we will be sure to try and stay with them again.
I only had a chance to meet Maurice but he was a great host that made me and my boyfriend feel very welcome. He accommodated to the last minute request we had to stay that night.
The house was very warm and clean. Couldn't have asked for a better last minute experience , next time I'll stay longer to get to truly enjoy the house .
Booking with Maurice and Sheri was such a pleasure! We actually decided pretty last minute that we wanted to find a room in Petaluma for NYE and Maurice/Sheri were very accommodating with our last minute booking and responded promptly to emails. The bedroom and restroom we used were both spotless and very tastefully decorated - exactly as described in the listing. We also loved the breakfast that the hosts prepared from scratch and with very fresh ingredients. Beautiful house, convenient location, and great hosts!
It was a treat to stay in Sheri & Maurice's wonderfully decorated & welcoming home! Even though they were going to be out of town during our stay, they were gracious enough to accept our request for a Christmas day arrival, and Rory (Sheri's brother) was waiting to show us around when we arrived late. I'm inspired by the lovely landscaping in the backyard - you both should be on HGTV. Petaluma is a great central location for visiting wine country & I highly recommend this home.
Coming to Petaluma, my best friend and I knew we were coming in for at treat; However, Sheri and Maurice outdid themselves and really put the icing on our cake. Not only did we enter a beautiful, pristine house in which our hosts literally put all their love into building, we experienced a household who welcomed their guests in with open arms. Albeit it was only one night, we enjoyed our stay immensely. Maurice prepares the most exquisite breakfasts, and I watched with great interest as he prepared each item as if it were a sacred ritual of fine foods. All the while, we engaged in a lively conversation 'round the kitchen island about life and their captivating stories of traveling 'bout the world. Truly a pity we could not be able to stay longer—I would have loved to get to know the lovely couple even better. Mayhaps our paths will cross again since I have not had enough of sleepy little Petaluma! 5+ stars for our stay, if not more!
Maurice and Sheri—thank you for your hospitality and adding to our wonderful experience!

We are a married couple and have lived here in Petaluma for almost 40 years. Our home is furnished with many antiques because of our interests and business. We have hosted exchange students from Spain and France (for up to a school year) and have traveled to Europe several times and hope to go again to see different countries.
We love the many dining choices here in town all focusing on fresh local food as well as a number of microbreweries. We enjoy walks in a number of parks here with walking trails, marshes and water fowl. Downtown is less than a fifteen minute walk with many antique shops, restaurants, movie theater and coffee (website hidden) tie up in downtown at the "turning basin" on the Petaluma River providing a great view from many local restaurants.
