About This Listing
Cozy, private bedroom in the upper floor of a house with shared common areas. At times you will have the place to yourself. Located in a peaceful and safe lake community 1.5 hours west of New York City. Ideal for writer, artist or creative person.
Welcome to Lake Hopatcong, a restful lake community in the gateway to the Skylands, in northwestern New Jersey. I'm an ESL teacher. I'm often traveling abroad, and these are times when it is possible to have the entire floor to yourself.
My house, affectionately nicknamed "Hippie Haven," is ideal for an artist type wanting to get out of the city and spend some time being creative. There are many light and bright rooms for drawing. There is also a full sundeck overlooking the lake which is ideal for drawing and painting in summer. Of course, it's also appealing for anyone who wants to eat outside or just take in the beauty of the season!
It's a single occupancy space, but I do have an air mattress in case you are traveling with a friend or relative. Two would be the maximum this bedroom could accommodate, but I'd only recommend that for a very short stay, and a $12/night extra person fee would apply.
Due to the nature of this listing, please write and tell me about yourself and how you will use the space. REFERENCES AND VERIFICATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR THIS ACCOMMODATION, either from AirB&B or other sources.
There is also semi-private apartment listed separately under "ESL, Music & Artist Haven," which can accommodate a few more people in our downstairs level. So if you're a band, or you have more people in your party, you may want to check out the other space. It includes an equipped music rehearsal room.
Free off-street parking is available. On-site laundry facilities are available. All facilities and common areas are shared with me when I am here (kitchen, bath, living room with cable TV), and there's high-speed wireless internet. There is a TV with a DVD player in your bedroom.
Interaction with Guests
When I am here, you will see me frequently! My bedroom is also on this floor and we'll be sharing the bathroom.
When I'm not here, a friend of mine will check you in and give you keys, and you'll be on your own.
When I am here, I also offer:
* FULL MEAL PLAN - custom tailored to your dietary needs is $15-$25 per day. Please inquire for details. If you are going to cook, you must abide by kitchen house rules (reasonable hours, cleanliness).
* NEW YORK CITY TOURS - $65 PER PERSON, includes lunch.
* FORMAL ENGLISH GRAMMAR LESSONS 1-on-1, $25/Hr.
* COOKING LESSONS - just pay cost of food!
ADD-ONS ARE PAYABLE IN CASH UPON ARRIVAL.
The Hopatcong State Park is 2 miles away and you can swim and put in a boat there during the summer. There are also easy hiking trails through wooded areas.
Restaurants, bars and shopping are all within 12 minutes' drive.
These places are are within walking distance when the weather is nice:

* The Grotto Pizzeria, which will deliver, and next to the restaurant is a beauty salon.
* Lucky House Chinese takeout
* Dunkin Donuts
* 3 in 1 Deli and Convenience Store (ATM here)
* The U.S. Post Office
* Santander Bank
* Modick Park
The New Jersey Transit train station and a bus stop are both 3 miles away in Landing. I will pick you up or drop you off at no charge or you can call a cab. The train station is called the Lake Hopatcong Station. The Lakeland Bus Lines stop is called "Lake Hopatcong/Landing/Pathmark." IMPORTANT: The train does not run all the way to Lake Hopatcong on weekends. If you are coming by public transport, you will need to go to Dover station or take the bus to Landing. I can pick you up on weekends in Dover for $10, or you can take a cab or a local bus from Dover to my house.
In spring, summer and fall, some of my guests come with their own bicycles. I have one here that you can borrow.
Other Things to Note
This space is dog friendly. There is a Chihuahua living with me. When I'm not here, he's not here. If you are bringing your dog, please indicate the size and breed and if it gets along with other dogs. If your dog is not well trained, you must cage or crate it if you leave it in the house unattended. When I am here, I can sometimes provide dog sitting services ($15/day extra charge applies). If I am not available to sit your dog, I know a local person who can.
Quiet hours are generally between 11 PM and 8 AM, but are negotiable. Access to the kitchen must be coordinated during normal hours, or just order a meal plan. Check-in arrivals are between 4 PM and 11 PM. Longer-term stays of one month or more will require a larger security deposit. If you're coming in late or leaving early during your stay, please just let me know what to expect. No smoking in the house.
From Nov 01, 2015 - Mar 31, 2016 the minimum stay is 7 nights.
I enjoyed my stay here. The space is very inviting and I felt comfortable and at home. It was a very peaceful stay. The area is quiet and the views of the lake are beautiful. Mercedes was always available if I had any questions and checked in to make sure everything was going well. She is the first person I will reach out to the next time I stay in the area. Thank you!!
