About This Listing
Great A-frame in the woods in central Cheticamp, on a private lane off Cabot Trail.
One upper level bedroom sleeps two, and one lower level Dutch bed sleeps one. An additional seven foot, feather stuffed couch could sleep a fourth person.
Two very friendly cats are in residence. Surrounded on three sides by woods you may see moose, deer, partridge, pheasant, rabbits and other woodland creatures. There is a nice sized vegetable garden, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and rhubarb about as well as an herb garden for your use. Hummingbirds are all around. Local CSA vegetable delivery can be arranged as well.
A stones throw from the Portage Golf Course, minutes to the Cape Breton Highland National Park as a well as many beaches, sand and stone. Stables nearby offer great outings.
This house marries the luxury of my past life in NYC with unique rustic charm in a great location.
Guests have access to everything they need to stay as though they are at home.
Most of the time I will be in the house next door. If not, for any questions I will be a call or text away.
The neighborhood is quiet and secluded. The house is at the end of a private lane, with neighbors that have lived on the lane since childhood, most unseen. We have cafe and grill only a five minute walk, and an outdoor cafe with European pastries within a five minute drive.
This house is connected to another home via a large laundry room pantry. The use of the laundry room is shared. Excepting the breezeway style laundry room it stands alone.
The house rules are not too tricky - I just ask that you treat my house, my cats and my things gently and as your own.
Smoking outside only, please.
Please help yourself to anything in the garden - there is a good sized herb garden and a vegetable garden, as well as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, rhubarb, blackberries, wild blueberries and Saskatoon berries.
This was our first AirBnB experience and it was great! Harper was welcoming and went out of her way to think of - but also investigate further - activities for us to do during our stay. We had a chance to spend some time with Harper and got to know her a bit, and she's a friendly, interesting, warm, and funny person. The house was cozy, comfortable, stylish, and had everything we needed. Harper's cats are also incredibly sweet and we really enjoyed their company. The neighbourhood was quiet, and off the main road which we liked, and very convenient to Highland National Park and other cultural attractions. We enjoyed our stay very much!
Harper is the ideal AirBnB host: friendly, helpful, and welcoming, while still being professional. We stayed in her A-frame in May and it was exactly what we wanted. It is quiet, relaxing and cozy, with fancy but practical furnishings in a beautiful and unique building. One of our favourite parts of the stay were the two cats, who provided us with hours of entertainment and love, but were also happy to leave us alone when we wanted it.
Harper went out of her way to find out what was open and accessible for us in the area (since we were there at the tail end of the "off season" for Cape Breton), and was very generous - her house is filled with food staples , any of which we were welcome to use, and an impressive wine collection which guests can drink if they leave some money in return.
The nearby town has anything you could want: small stores, NSLC, post office, restaurants, and a beautiful harbour view.
All in all, the perfect romantic retreat in cozy Cape Breton.
Harper's home was just what we had wanted in our first Air BnB experience. Her online description and photos were very accurate and she was fantastic at responding to emails/questions. The cats at this cottage were so entertaining, they really added to the charm and comfort of this home! Location wise, this home was close to everything in Cheticamp, and a 10 minute drive to the Cabot trail made hiking around the area very easy. I would definitely recommend others to stay in Harpers little cottage.
This was my first time using AirBnB and Harper and her cats definitely made me want to do it again! Her home was gorgeous and cozy. The cats were very sweet and I really want to take Ophelia home with me. If I ever make another trip up to Chéticamp I'll definitely be staying with her!
Everyone who has reviewed their experience on here has already said everything that needs to be said: everything about this place is absolutely perfect!!!!! Harper is the most kind and welcoming person you will ever meet and was always just a quick text away whenever we had any questions that needed answering! Ophelia and Sabella are the cutest and most friendliest cats I ever looked after and they will completely steal your hearts guaranteed. Harper's home is honestly wonderful and you will all leave wishing it was your own.
We loved staying here! Harper's place is cozy and darling (I actually wanted it to rain more so I could linger longer among all the good books!). It is perfectly located for a trip around the Cabot Trail and some great hikes. The resident cats are wonderful companions and I was sad to bid them adieu. Should we find ourselves back in that neck of the woods, we would certainly stay again. Thanks so much!
What a fantastic way to end our trip in Nova Scotia. Harper's little artsy home is indeed a pure delight. With 2 friendly cats and plenty of fresh vegetables in the garden and fridge as a bonus for cooking the special meal at night after a busy day. There were plenty of books to browse through and the overall experience was fantastic. The location is great for exploring The Cabot Trail and the National Park. A home away from home.

About the Host, Harper
I am a local paramedic that likes to spend as much time as possible traveling. Currently Yorkshire, England has a hold on my heart, though having lived a bit in NYC I find myself in "the city" whenever rural living runs a bit long.
Denmark is next on my list of places to visit, especially after hearing a radio magazine described the country and culture's love and respect for the health of senior and challenged members.
Wonderful cafe with top end coffee, European pastries and loads of singing bullfrogs in the pond. I go EVERY day in the summer/ (Open June through September)
Amazing selection of hooked rugs and local artisan crafts. Really great for small gifts and unique souvenirs from Cheticamp.
On the tip of Cheticamp Island, ighthouse and views of the St. Laurence with the opportunity to see whales in the evenings.
One of many golf courses on the island is a five minute walk away.
Sandy beach, well sheltered, nearby campbround
Wonderful sandwiches, soups, coffee and sweets.
Hideaway campground and oyster farm.
