About this listing
Large1970s era house with plenty of room for extended family or friends in beautiful San Luis Obispo, near the Cal Poly campus.
Welcome to our reunion house. We grew up here and keep the house so we can meet up in San Luis Obispo with our families and friends. We love our hometown and the whole Central Coast. We think you'll agree with us that this house and area are great for a vacation with extended family or friends.
The house has five good sized bedrooms with beds and bedding for 10, plus folding mattresses and air beds for more. There is a well equipped kitchen which opens to a spacious family and dining room with room for a crowd. Just outside is a large private patio. Summer nights in San Luis Obispo are usually great for barbecuing and sitting outside. Maybe your kids will enjoy evenings running around the front yard or playing Frisbee in the empty street like we did growing up. The house was built in the 1940s by a cooperative group of Cal Poly professors, then remodeled in the 1970s. We've kept some of the 1970s vintage decor as a campy tribute to the era of our childhoods.
Located adjacent to Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, it's easy to get to all of San Luis Obispo county's attractions. The Cal Poly campus itself, quieter in the summer, is fun to explore. Climb to the P on the hill above the campus for wonderful views or stroll around the agricultural area and maybe see baby pigs. San Luis Obispo's historic downtown, full of great restaurants and shops, is a mile away and features the Thursday Night Downtown Farmers Market, great for SLO's famous ribs, music and people watching in a beautiful setting. On summer Fridays, there are often free concerts in Mission Plaza.
All of the area's great beaches are easy to get to, usually in 15 minutes or less. Our favorite, Avila Beach, is a 12 minute drive or an 11 mile bike ride. (John is an avid biker and can give you info on riding in the area.) Morro Bay is good for the usual sights and yummy fish, but also great kayaking and bird and otter watching. Paso Robles and Edna Valley wine regions are within a half hour drive. San Luis Obispo county is great for so many adventures. Take a look at some of the books we have in the house for hikes, local attractions, and things to do with kids.
Or just stay in! There is a collection of family games plus wi-fi and internet access. There's a supermarket a few blocks away.
Guests have access to the entire house, yard and driveways.
Interaction with guests
We won't be there when you're at the house. You'll have the whole place to yourselves. But don't hesitate to text, call or email if you have any questions!
Thanks for coming! Have fun!
But please, no smoking.
Please lock the doors when you go out.
Unless, you've cleared it with us ahead of time, check in is 4 pm and check out is noon.
In the kitchen, feel free to use the coffee, pancake mix, condiments and spices, but it would be great if you could let us know if anything needs refilling before the next guest.
Other than bedding and towels, we do ask that you leave the place as clean as you found it. If we need to hire cleaners for more than linens, touching up and bathroom cleaning, we will need to deduct the cost from the security deposit.
At the end of your stay, please leave beds unmade if you used them and leave used towels on the bathroom floors. Please close all windows, lock the door and don't forget to return the key to the lock box.
We hope you have a great time in San Luis Obispo!

I'm a San Luis Obispo native, now transplanted to the San Francisco Bay area. My brother and I still own the house we grew up in and visit San Luis every summer with our families and friends. Nothing beats a week in SLO, hanging out, playing games (Scrabble and Settlers of Catan are favorites), crafting with my niece, bodysurfing at Avila Beach, going to the farmers market and coming home and cooking up the loot, breaking open a summer ripe watermelon with seeds, and, oh yeah, sharing the kitchen clean-up!
