The Space

Our recently remodeled studio cabin is tucked away in the back of an 6 acre orchard. It is fully self-contained with its own kitchenette, full outdoor bathroom, and a wrap around lanai (deck). SPECIAL OFFER: BECAUSE THIS IS ONE OF OUR NICEST AND NEWEST CABIN, WE HAVE FEW REVIEWS. WE WANT YOU TO ENJOY IT AND WRITE A GOOD REVIEW. TO DO SO, WE HAVE REDUCED OUR PRICE. USUALLY A $95.00 A NIGHT CABIN NOW ONLY $75.00 FOR A LIMITED TIME. ENJOY! MAHALO!

Enjoy waling our spacious and open ten acre property surrounded by a buffer of Jungle. We have 150+ orchard trees with 30 or so kinds of tropical fruit. You're welcome to help yourself to the freshest fruit possible whenever they're ripe!

Ocean swimming is half a mile downhill at Isaac Kepo'okalani Hale Park - one of the few safe places for swimming on this rugged, extremely scenic, coast.

A body-temperature warm-pond park is just a half mile further, as well as excellent snorkeling in the wave-protected Kapoho Tide Pools, with dozens of corals and thousands of brightly colored tropical fish.

The nearly constant lava-flow has recently stopped flowing into the ocean, however that area is just half an hour to the West of us and perfect for a sunset or sunrise hike where you would have seen a cascade of red-hot lava plunging 50 feet into the ocean boiling below. For lava flowing viewing one needs to hike a bit longer nowadays on higher elevation. Truly awesome! A peak experience for most of our guests. Nearby steam vents are a blast too!

Standard shopping, a natural foods market, and excellent restaurants are 15 minutes away in Pahoa Town. Several large Farmer's Markets operate on the weekends too.

Our Teak Meditation Pavilion was made in Bali and is, to us, a very holy and special place for prayer and reflection. We don't preach, or otherwise "reach out"...., it's simply there if you would like some peace and tranquility - which is, as most people tell us, our main product. :-)

We are an alcohol and drug free, vegetarian facility offering no eggs, fish, chicken or meat prepared or served.

Children under 12 stay free.

The cost contained herein is all inclusive covering the required Hawaii Hotel Room Tax Hawaii General Excise Tax.

Be sure and check out our reviews on AirBNB!! They speak for themselves. KMEC is the best value around for places under $100.

  • In the most beautiful and peaceful space. The grounds are surrounded by birds, jungle, and vibrant wildlife. It's quiet during the day- some people live there but you wouldn't know it. The cabin is tucked back- so wasn't easy to find our first night. But sleeping with the sounds and air is a dream! Loved the outdoor bathroom- hit showers and a small kitchen- perfect!

  • We truly enjoyed staying at this place and would definitely recommend it. It's so nice falling asleep with the sounds of nature only and to be woken up by the first rays of sunlight. It's best described as having the advantages of camping, but without some of the disadvantages and with the luxury of having an actual bed. The Noni Cabin has a private bath and kitchen and we especially appreciated the private outdoor shower and toilet, which provide a beautiful view but still enough privacy. We mostly had breakfast in the community kitchen to meet other people though. Our last morning was spent watching sunrise in a geothermally heated thermal pool with some other guests and the host/manager. He is very friendly and provided us with both touristic information and information on the property itself - we got to learn about many new fruits. We also got to meet the owner, which was very nice. Note that there is good Wifi in the community kitchen, which works in the cabin as well on a laptop, but the signal is quite weak on a smartphone.

  • We enjoyed our stay at the Kirpal Retreat very much. It's a beautiful spot with tropical fruit trees and beautiful grounds. We liked our cottage. It was the Noni and we liked having kitchen and bath facilities. Very close to the ocean. Our hosts were great: very helpful with questions and needs.
The Kirpal isn't for everyone... no alcohol or meat, exposed bathroom on the lanai (in the Noni), but we found it all very refreshing and delightful. Thank you.

  • Kirpal is a jungle gem set amongst beautiful secondary forest just a short walk to the beach. The lovely winding driveway invites you into a selection of cottages that have something for everyone. Our stay at the Noni cabin was wonderful. The sounds of frogs chirping at night lulled us to sleep and the next morning we spent half the day just enjoying the cabin and the enchanting Kirpal property. The hosts were very gracious and available for anything we needed. If you like being close to nature and want somewhere that feels magical and comfy at the same time, look no further!

  • Great place to stay! Wonderful couple and a beautiful setting. Close to the beach , I recommend arriving during daylight..There is a community kitchen as well as one in the Noni Cabin so bring some local food to cook to really experience the Hawaiian culture. Truly a tropical experience and I will return!

Kirpal Meditation and Ecological Center
Kirpal Meditation and Ecological Center is a half mile from the ocean on the eastern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii, approximately seven miles from the small village of Pahoa. The 10-acre ocean-view property is blessed with average daytime temperatures of 85° F year-round, and 65° F at night, with cool, fragrant trade winds, surrounding tropical flora, including old growth mangoes, nearby swimming, surfing and snorkeling. This property was once a papaya farm and is now newly planted with bamboo, papaya, palms, banana and many other fruit trees. The octagonal Balinese meditation pavilion is set among shade-trees with an expansive view of the ocean. The island wildlife is all around us – a variety of birds by day and at night there's the pleasant chirping of Coqui frogs – and there are no snakes. Natural wonders include Volcanoes National Park, for lava and crater viewing, volcanically heated warm ponds and steam vents (as outdoor saunas) and other wonders of the lush tropics. Kmec opened in the summer of 2008 for pre-arranged seasonal meditation retreats and private meditation-vacations on request. Additionally, we would like to extend our welcome to Big Island travelers offering cozy cottages and open air kitchen and bath.
