We're sure you'll find our Historic New Orleans Storefront an affordable and memorable way to visit and enjoy our amazing city.
OUR SPACE: Our home is a New Orleans storefront building with living quarters above built around 1885. Like many storefront buildings we are located on a corner. Over the years the building has been home to a number of businesses; an attorney's office, a beauty salon and at least two bars. We're an easy walk to the French Quarter and many other local attractions.
In the mid 1980's the building was renovated into two apartments. Thirteen years ago we purchased the building and now use the entire building as our home. Our home is bright, colorful and full of local folk art and outsider art. The majority of our daily living (bedroom, bathroom and den) is on the second floor but, we use the 1st floor kitchen as our main kitchen and what was the original store now serves as our living room. Beyond the kitchen, at the end of a short hall, is a nice guest room (your room) with a very comfortable queen size bed, TV and wifi connection for you to connect to the internet with your laptop. A large private full bathroom is also located off the hall before, as is access to our garden patio. In the morning we provide light breakfast fare for our guests to enjoy in the kitchen.
Please note: On Street Parking Only (like most of New Orleans neighborhoods).
THE NEIGHBORHOOD~TREME' Treme' is the 3rd oldest neighborhood in New Orleans and is located directly behind (away from the Mississippi River) the French Quarter. We are three blocks from Esplanade Ave. and ten blocks from both the French Quarter and Canal Street, along which runs the historic Canal Streetcar line making easy access to Uptown, the Universities, Magazine St., the New Orleans Zoo and much more. We are within walking distance of Jackson Square which is considered the heart of the French Quarter where you will also find the world famous Cafe du Monde and the historic St. Louis Cathedral. From the house to the edge of French Quarter is about a 10-12 minute walk. We are >5 minute drive to the New Orleans Museum of Art, City Park and the Fairgrounds. We are exceptionally well located for activities in the Treme', French Quarter, Faubourg Marigny, Esplanade Ridge and the Central Business District neighborhoods. We're a 20 minute walk from the Mercedes Benz Superdome home the New Orleans Saints football team and the New Orleans Arena, home of the Hornets basketball team.
Treme' is home to jazz, The Treme Brass Band, Mardi Gras Indians, Second Lines and a few wonderful, mouthwatering neighborhood African American soul food restaurants like Lil Dizzy's, Dookey Chase and Willie Mae's (winner of the James Beard Award for best fried chicken in the South). Jazz musician Kermit Ruffins has recently opened a new jazz club just a few blocks from the house. Several of the cities biggest festivals are within easy walking distance too: Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest, Jazz Fest, Southern Decadence (like a gay, lgbt Mardi Gras), Halloween, Voodoo Fest...
HBO's Treme' was largely filmed in the neighborhood. Currently, American Horror Story is filming season 3 in and around the Treme and the French Quarter.
Thanks for taking the time to look at our listing!
Michael & David
Great place to stay, with lots of privacy and really comfortable room. Super hosts, and would highly recommend. Neighborhood was not so picturesque, but very convenient for what we wanted to do.
David and Michael could not have been more accommodating. They were very friendly and offered several suggestions w/r/t restaurants, places to check out, etc. This residence is located right in the heart of New Orleans. It is within walking distance or at least a very easy driving distance from all of the areas of New Orleans out of towners would probably have an interest in seeing. The house is immaculate and spacious. It is very easy to feel comfortable and relaxed here. We will definitely come back here if they are willing to have us. I simply can't recommend them more. Thanks again Dave and Michael!
I loved staying with David and Michael in Treme! A very convenient neighborhood and full of history, it was an easy walk to the French Quarter, but I'd also recommend St. Augustine's, the Backstreet Cultural Museum, Lil' Dizzy's Cafe, and Kermit's Ernie K-Doe Lounge to really experience and learn about the neighborhood. I also enjoyed the evenings I spent in David and Michael's neat and well-equipped home, so full of interesting and colorful art that I didn't feel the need to go to any art museums!
This was our first visit to New Orleans and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay! Michael and David were so helpful and their home and our room were beautiful. We could not have felt more welcomed and hope we will be able with them again when we visit NOLA again (if they are not booked already!). They truly went above and beyond what we expected . . . from offering us use of their drier after a very rainy day of Mardi Gras parades to supplying us with bubble wrap to transport a piece of art we bought. Such a wonderful trip.
My bf and I stayed at this wonderful house over the Valentine day weekend. Both Micheal and David were super helpful even before our trip - giving us tip about restaurants, events, the area, etc. Michael met us when we arrived and made us feel super welcome. The house was well stocked with breakfast items as well as staple items. The house is located in Tremes and very close to several great restaurants. Walkable to FR quarter and if your feet get tired, you can always grab a taxi for 10 bucks (or more or less...depending on the traffic). We love NOLA and if we go back, we will def. stay at Michael and David's. Although we were only renting one bedroom and one bathroom, we really felt like we were renting the whole house. We hardly saw Michael during our stay. Oh, the house is also covered with wonderful arts - beautiful paintings and objects. I highly recommend it.
David and Michael welcomed us for our first NOLA trip.Their home is beautiful, and during our six day stay we could not have asked for more personable hosts. I'm so glad we stayed in Treme. This neighborhood is about so much more and we already long to return.. thank you for the guidance in figuring out where to go, providing parking wisdom, and stories about a city that we have fallen In love with!
If you plan to visit New Orleans, I highly recommend that you stay with Michael and David in their wonderful home in Treme. Their house is inviting -- funky art all over the walls, plenty of space, privacy, and wonderful amenities. You'll feel a little bit like you actually live in New Orleans! Their home is a pleasant walking distance into the French Quarter yet far enough off of the beaten path to be quiet and calm. They had delicious pumpkin walnut bread waiting for us when we arrived! You just can't beat this location, price, and quality.
The place, the astonishing artwork on every wall and every shelf/table/cupboard/floor/everywhere, the location, and especially the hosts were as wonderful as wonderful could ever be!!! We only got to meet Michael on the first day of our one week stay, but Davis we got to have multiple talks with as he steered us toward the best of the best that the city has to offer. It was bitter cold during our stay, but we were completely happy and comfortable there and felt completely at home. We will be visiting NOLA again, and if they will have us we certainly hope to stay in this historic site!!!
Michael and David were fantastic hosts, who we would definitely stay with again. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and a plethora of information about the city. We followed their excellent advice and were very glad for it - they knew about some amazing hidden spots for both live music and food. Their house is perfect - private, beautifully decorated and immaculately maintained. Plus, delicious choc chip/blueberry bread!! It is a great spot if you are looking for a true New Orleans experience with lots of character and close to a lot of local treasures.
Michael and David's place has got to be among the very best values in the whole Crescent City. Their home is immaculate, funky, welcoming, and just a really great place to be. Staying there feels like having an entire house to oneself. Michael and David were both very friendly and kind to us when we arrived, and David really took the time to make sure we were settled and set up to have a great time in the city, which we certainly did! While there aren't an abundance of attractions in the immediate vicinity, the neighborhood has a rich history that can be seen, felt, eaten, and heard, and M&D's place is very centrally located for excursions all throughout town.
