Welcome to the Mission! Our charming 3 bedroom apartment, Casa Quixote, is located near just about everything there is to do.
This listing is for a room in our 3 bedroom home. You will be our guest. We have one other vacant room that we use for family, friends or other guests when they are visiting. If you think you will require extra space and would like to use the other room as well, please ask us.
We have a very charming dog named Lula. She is medium-small in size, very chill and well trained. We prefer guests who like/love our dog. We also have an awesome 3 year old who will NOT be at the home for the entire summer.
A little about the house:
The interior of this 106 year old home was restored to it's former glory when we exposed the original woodwork. The rooms are awash in sunlight. Your room is medium sized. It includes a full queen bed with new mattress, and plenty of storage space in the closet and shelves. There is a cable TV in the living area and high speed WIFI throughout. The main bathroom has the original Clawfoot Bathtub (from 1907!) to soak in and possibly the only bidet in San Francisco. There is an additional half-bath that is primarily for your use. The kitchen is well stocked if you like to cook on the vintage gas stove. Or lounge on the private deck and have a BBQ. Coffee and tea are provided, and we'll gladly make you an espresso when we're home. This is the downstairs of a corner duplex, and the upstairs neighbor is very cool.
We are committed to providing you a comfortable and enjoyable space from which to explore the neighborhood and the city.
We could go on and on... but we'll let you enjoy the neighborhood on your own. Cheers!
Your bedroom, common areas in living room and kitchen, bathrooms, the rear deck, the bbq in the patio.
Interaction with Guests
We work during the day. We can meet up for breakfast or in the evening.
A little about the Mission:
This is hands-down the best place to be in San Francisco. The Mission is one of the culinary Hot Spots of America, and you will be surrounded by innovative restaurants, cafes, and bars that range from the affordable to the posh. Every ethnic cuisine is represented, although Pancho Villa's burrito reigns supreme. Within three blocks are Flour and Water, Central Kitchen, Blue Bottle, Atlas Cafe, Coffee Bar, Charles Chocolates, Salumeria, Universal Cafe, Blowfish Sushi, Trick Dog Bar, Slow Club, Rhea's Deli, American Grilled Cheese, Southern Pacific Brewery. Yelp any of these places and you'll understand why you're in Foodie nirvana. At night you can walk to all the action on Mission and Valencia, or you can explore the cultural and artistic events that abound in the neighorhood. Our #1 thing to do is to have an impromptu picnic at Dolores Park in the late afternoon. There you will find a true cross-section of the Mission.
The 27 Bus picks you up across the street and drops you off downtown (Powell / Union Square) in less than 20 minutes. You can also walk to BART (metro) at 16th or 24th if you want to explore the Bay Area.
If you like to bike, we have two bikes (beater, foldable, and mountain) free of charge for you to bike along the waterfront (or to Golden Gate Park). Please inquire.
Many guests use the Uber or Lyft mobile app to hire a private car around town. Drivers usually arrive in less than 4 minutes.
Plenty of free street parking is also available. However, it is easiest to find a spot on weekdays after 4pm and all day weekends. Weekday parking from 8am-4pm requires a bit of circling but a spot usually opens up within a block or two.
Other Things to Note
The bedroom in the apartment is located on the first floor of a street with light to medium traffic of people and cars passing by depending on the time of day. You may hear some sound from outside. We've lived here for nine years and it's never been an issue for us.
Please leave the apartment as beautiful as you found it.
No smoking indoors.
Feel free to have friends over, but please ask for permission first and keep it simple and calm.
Amadis made us feel very welcome. Great place, easy access to everything.
We had a great experience. We had a problem with the keypad entry and they took care of it immediately. Great location!
This house was perfect! We rented the house for some friends and family that were in town for our wedding weekend, and they had an amazing time here. Everyone loved the interesting furnishings and the wood details in the house, and the bedrooms were perfect for the guests. The location was amazing, as well - within walking distance to so much!
What a great start to our holiday the apartment was exactly as was advertised. Such great attention to detail such as providing food basics and shampoo etc was more than we expected. Great location for food we had a lovely first night meal at Slow Club and the people were so friendly. The area was a little noisy at night but jet lag probably didn't help!!!
We are so glad we didn't just stay somewhere touristy and felt we saw some of the real San Fran thanks and hope to come back again xx
Three of us, all in our early sixties, stayed here for 4 nights in September 2014. Instructions for getting into the flat were great and it felt very secure.
The flat was even nicer than we imagined. The decor was lovely-lots of wood and had a very warm feeling. We found it hard to find all the light switches but I think that was more to do with our long flight!
It was great to have 2 bathrooms and the bedrooms were very comfortable with lots of room for clothes, luggage.
Amadis and Martha were very generous with kitchen supplies.
We found the Mission District arounf the flat to be very friendly and used the bus to get downtown. We used taxis easily to get back in the evening if we were not near the direct bus route.
We visited lots of tourist attractions and went on a City Bus Tour and out on the Bay on a boat trip. We also went to Muir Woods and Sausalito on an organised trip. Getting around was usually very straightforward.
We went to the Universal Cafe, only 2 doors away, recommended by Amadis. It was wonderful-so welcoming on our first evening when we were jet lagged and feeling a bit apprehensive. This was our first evening ever in your country. We went back on our third night and had a great evening there. Good food and very friendly staff.
We would stay here again if we are lucky enough to come back to San Francisco. This was the first time we had used AirBnB and we were very pleased! We loved your appartment and we loved your city. Thank you Amadis and Martha.
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, extraordinary furnished apartment. Everything was as described on the website. Perfect equipment and comfortable beds. We loved the interesting books Amadis and Martha provided (History of Mission District, mural artists a.s.o.) and also the interesting area where the apartment is situated. Every part of SF can be reached by bus or other public means of transport (although some spots take a little time to reach). But in the evening you don't have to move far to find great places. It was also great to have a save parking space (garage!). We highly recommend the apartment and the hosts!
About the Host, Amadis And Martha
I am an advocate for youth. I teach modern world history and college access classes at Mission High School by Dolores Park. My wife Martha Maria is a biologist who is wild about marine mammals. Our son Oliver is busy exploring the world of playgrounds, insects, and new shapes and sounds. Amadis is from Berkeley with roots in Argentina and Peru, and Martha Maria is Colombiana all the way. We love wandering through the Mission, learning about the history and watching it change on a daily basis. We are honored to have you as our guest, and we hope you explore the neighborhood to the fullest. Cheers!
