Cozy downstairs bedroom with private bathroom and separate backyard entrance. Great residential neighborhood, walking distance to downtown San Mateo and the train station. Regular queen bed with adjoining full bathroom, french doors lead to the back yard. Small but comfortable space, wi-fi available. The household does have two cats and there are chickens in a coop in the back yard. Ample street parking, we also have loaner bicycles available. We have installed a small refrigerator and microwave in the laundry area off the guest room.
We have an older single family home in the Baywood knolls section of San Mateo, 10 miles from SFO, 20 miles south of San Francisco, 20 miles north of Palo Alto and Stanford University. My wife and I live upstairs and have my stepsons part time, two well behaved boys ages 14 and 15. We are happy to visit and orient you to the neighborhood and the bay area, or not, as you wish. We both are frequently at work or out of town. Downtown San Mateo is a 15 or 20 minute walk with a vibrant restaurant and social scene. Cal trains runs from downtown San Mateo to San Francisco at least every hour or so, $5 each way. We do have a Sam Trans bus stop two blocks away that runs on weekdays.
No Smoking please
No smoking, no pets, no loud noise after 10 pm. We are fairly easy going people and are happy to make our washer and dryer available to guests staying more then three days. We have an ironing board and hair dryer available on request. I will generally not accept reservations more then thirty days in advance unless they are for a week or more.
Nicholas and Tiffany are friendly, welcoming hosts. We appreciate your attention to making our stay comfortable and hassle free. The accommodations are clean, comfortable, and fully stocked with all the needed equipment and COFFEE. Thanks for having us
I loved staying here and would highly recommend it. The accommodations were perfect and exactly as described. The chickens were hilarious and their cats were really sweet.
It was great having a mini fridge, keurig and sink setup attached the unit so I was able to take leftovers home and reheat the next day. Coffee and water were readily available.
Bed and pillows were very cozy and it was super nice to have a tv mounted to the wall to watch. The bathroom was very clean and had all the linens I needed. The bathroom even had a first aid kit which I needed to use after I cut my hand at my workshop that day.
My only hangup about staying here was the noise. I am a very light sleeper. Between the CalTrain running nearby, the chickens in the morning (only one morning though) and the sounds of footsteps from upstairs I woke up quite a few times. I should have brought earplugs as this would have definitely solved the problem.
Hi Alex, I'm so sorry that you were disturbed by noise. I actually do have disposable ear plugs, I'll leave some in the desk. The Caltrain line is actually 1.4 miles away, I don't think I've ever had anybody complain about the train before. I'll check the first aid kit, I hope your hand is OK and I'm glad it was there for you.
Nicholas was warm and accommodating. The home is in a great neighborhood in the hills of San Mateo. The room with attached bath was clean and comfortable, everything I needed was available, Fast internet service was a treat.
This room is a downstairs basement room, and is well appointed, comfortable, and very clean. The kitchen area is set up in their laundry room, so if you are scent sensitive, be aware.
Nicholas was very friendly. Everything in the unit was clearly marked and explained. He offered to help me with my luggage. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this unit for someone staying in the area.
The only reason it isn't a 5 star is because the driveway is steep, so if you have trouble on inclines or managing luggage, this can be a challenge.
Be sure to say 'Hi' to the chickens.
I'm sorry the driveway was troublesome for you, I had actually written your husband that from the sidewalk to the back of the house the path descended around 8 feet. I've measured, and our driveway drops 4 feet from the sidewalk to the garage door, which is a 40 foot distance. So it drops one foot every ten feet. I had assumed he had discussed it with you.
This was an adorable place to stay! The room was freshly made upon arrival, with a beautifully done bathroom and accompanying kitchen area. A heated bathroom floor made all the difference in getting ready in the mornings. French doors opened up to a gorgeous garden with blossoming trees. We were greeted by the animals - two cats and some sweet chickens - who were social and liked to be around us.
The host was friendly and attentive to our needs, but allowed us all the privacy and space we needed! We would definitely stay here again when traveling that way.
We had a lovely stay in the gorgeous room! It was perfect and had many thought out amenities including coffee in the morning and snack bars to jump start our day! Nick was also very quick to respond and was wonderful communicating with!
Nicholas accepted our last minute (same-day) request without any problems and was very prompt with his communication. The listing is accurate and the room was perfect for our needs. Very well-kept place with quality furnishings, pleasant decor, and nice finishing touches. The kitchenette also came in handy. The neighborhood was quiet and upscale with plenty of street parking. Being only a 5-min. drive to downtown was also an additional bonus. Highly recommended!
We love our quiet neighborhood and the easy location to downtown. Tiffany works as a dental hygienist and Nicholas is a contractor. We enjoy our cats and chickens and love to work in the garden.
