About This Listing
Cozy downstairs bedroom with private bathroom and separate backyard entrance. Great residential neighborhood, walking distance to downtown San Mateo and the train station. Regular queen bed with adjoining full bathroom, french doors lead to the back yard. Small but comfortable space, wi-fi available. The household does have two cats and there are chickens in a coop in the back yard. Ample street parking, we also have loaner bicycles available. We have installed a small refrigerator and microwave in the laundry area off the guest room.
We have an older single family home in the Baywood knolls section of San Mateo, 10 miles from SFO, 20 miles south of San Francisco, 20 miles north of Palo Alto and Stanford University. My wife and I live upstairs and have my stepsons part time, two well behaved boys ages 14 and 15. We are happy to visit and orient you to the neighborhood and the bay area, or not, as you wish. We both are frequently at work or out of town. Downtown San Mateo is a 15 or 20 minute walk with a vibrant restaurant and social scene. Cal trains runs from downtown San Mateo to San Francisco at least every hour or so, $5 each way. We do have a Sam Trans bus stop two blocks away that runs on weekdays.
No Smoking please
No smoking, no pets, no loud noise after 10 pm. We are fairly easy going people and are happy to make our washer and dryer available to guests staying more then three days. We have an ironing board and hair dryer available on request. I will generally not accept reservations more then thirty days in advance unless they are for a week or more.
This was my 2nd stay at Nicholas's cute little guest room. I was in town for Maker Faire again in San Mateo and this is a great, quiet place to retreat to after a long hectic day! :)
Great location, clean and cozy room, helpful and responsive host!
They were very welcoming and friendly, but understanding that I was there on business with a lot of work to do. The room was as advertised, clean and comfortable. Despite a location a bit close to a thoroughfare road, I slept soundly... and I'm a light sleeper, so that is saying something.
I would stay here again.
Nicholas greeted us and helped us unload our stuff out of the car, he was quite the gentleman! This spot is all about privacy, privacy, privacy! For the introvert who wants a hotel like experience without the hotel price, this place is great. Separate entrance, bathroom, fridge, etc.
Nicholas was a wonderful host. I had just got off my plane and moved to town. He made me feel right at home. The room is comfortable with a TV. The bathroom was clean, and there was a coffee maker with mini fridge for convenience. I would recommend this place and I think it is a good value.
My business partner and I needed a place to stay in San
Mateo for a business trip for two days, the room was very private with its own entrance, which we enjoyed because of our long lengthy days and we did not have to tip toe about. The small room was clean, the shower was great. There was a mini fridge for leftovers which is important to us. Nicholas was nice and was helpful with directions.
Nicholas is always accommodating and helpful. Everything is thought through and convenient and comfortable. I love the separate entrance from the garden that gives an added measure of privacy and attractiveness.
About the Host, Nicholas
We love our quiet neighborhood and the easy location to downtown. Tiffany works as a dental hygienist and Nicholas is a contractor. We enjoy our cats and chickens and love to work in the garden.
