Cozy downstairs bedroom with private bathroom and separate backyard entrance. Great residential neighborhood, walking distance to downtown San Mateo and the train station. Regular queen bed with adjoining full bathroom, french doors lead to the back yard. Small but comfortable space, wi-fi available. The household does have two cats and there are chickens in a coop in the back yard. Ample street parking, we also have loaner bicycles available. We have installed a small refrigerator and microwave in the laundry area off the guest room.
We have an older single family home in the Baywood knolls section of San Mateo, 10 miles from SFO, 20 miles south of San Francisco, 20 miles north of Palo Alto and Stanford University. My wife and I live upstairs and have my stepsons part time, two well behaved boys ages 12 and 14. We are happy to visit and orient you to the neighborhood and the bay area, or not, as you wish. We both are frequently at work or out of town. Downtown San Mateo is a 15 or 20 minute walk with a vibrant restaurant and social scene. Cal trains runs from downtown San Mateo to San Francisco at least every hour or so, $5 each way. We do have a Sam Trans bus stop two blocks away that runs on weekdays.
No Smoking please
Nicholas and Tiffany's room was, as expected, very comfortable, private and self contained. We enjoyed our 5 night stay very much. The neighborhood is very nice and the location is very convenient. We'll be back.
The hosts were gracious, helpful with information about the community, and very welcoming.
The accommodations are clean, well appointed, very comfortable, and private.
I enjoyed my stay very, very much.
Loved the place! We didn't get a chance to stay long, but we'll definitely try to stay again the next time we're in the area. Thank you!
Great room and hospitality! Cozy, charming, clean, and private. Tiffany and Nick seem like very nice folk. I didn't get to stay long, but will definitely include their place on the short list of places to revisit when in the area.
The room was very nice, and is in a great neighborhood. It was cute, cozy, and well-decorated, with great furniture, luxurious sheets and a very good cable tv setup. The backyard shown in the picture is quite large and very pretty. The only caveat is that the house is of 1960's or so vintage, so that when people walk on the 2nd floor one hears squeaks and bumps through the ceiling.
My intention in looking for a place had to do with visiting the bay area, San Francisco, in particular. I had never been to San Mateo and had really not thought about the convenience of lodging in such a beautiful place and using such a place as a hub whereby I could not only enjoy the benefits of such a well established and up-stocked city, but be within 20 minutes of Union Square in SF. So the question becomes - what can possibly top location? Well, the answer, Nick and Tiffany's Hillsborough set-up:
Private entrance provided solitude and comfort
Every amenity was available - coffee, microwave, mini fridge, protein bar, small sink and dishes, flat screen with countless channels - I could go on and on.
The surroundings, immaculate both in and out. The self-contained space was clean and well supplied. Outdoors, among the fountain and furniture was an oasis of green and beautifully landscaped serenity. In the morning, I took advantage of visiting the chicken coup and weirdly, without even being extremely in touch with nature - at least on that level, found myself reaping the benefits of this unique environment.
This was such a cool place and both Nick and Tiffany made my experience solid. Do yourself a favor...next time you are looking to visit the Bay, make this location the place to stay!
Lovely location, room, and backyard. Just as pictured. Clean and well maintained. Nick was very understanding when my arrival time was later than expected.
Clean, well appointed, quiet apartment with all the amenities one could want. Our host was gracious and helpful in greeting us and recommending a breakfast place nearby.
Just stayed 2 nights at Tiffany and Nicholas's cute little room this past weekend while I was working at Maker Faire in San Mateo. It was a great, peaceful, cozy and clean refuge from the craziness of the festival! There was a great backyard/ garden just outside as well. Because of my long hours working I only met Nicholas briefly one evening but he was very friendly and accommodating and very quick to communicate when I had a question! Definitely recommend! :)
This place is awesome. Friendly, accommodating hosts (thanks for the help carrying luggage!), beautiful garden, clean room, comfy bed, kitchenette, private entrance, nicely decorated, easy drive to the airport.
