The Space

This beautiful brick house circa 1910 is located in the heart of Belmont, a ten minute walk from the downtown mall. Within just a block of Belmont's fabulous restaurants. It is a safe and quiet neighborhood with great old houses, with ample parking and parks nearby.

Your party will have the entire house. The main bedroom has a full sized bed with dressers and closet space. There is also a full divan in the front living room. The dining room has a dinner table, a day bed and music system. The entertainment room divan doubles as a twin bed. You are welcome to use the kitchen, and any ingredients you may need. The bathroom has a tub with shower, washer & dryer, and toiletries. There is cable, HBO, Netflix, chromecast, and high speed internet.

The house is filled with great local artists' work that you will get to see and use my pottery during your stay. I enjoy having people getting to touch and feel my work and spend more time than you might in any other setting. My upstairs neighbor Nora owns the vintage and antiques store Low, on the downtown mall.

I always have locally roasted coffee and for breakfast homemade yogurt and granola, made with gluten free oats. If you like donuts, Spudnuts (donuts made with potato spuds), is a short walk away. There is a free trolley from downtown that will take you to University of Virginia, to see the Rotunda and the Academic Village or if you are in town to watch a game or show at John Paul Jones. Thomas Jefferson's Monticello is only four miles away with a great boardwalk leading up to it that I can tell you more about.

To see what there is in the vicinity of the house be sure to check out my guide.

If you would like to see more of my pottery, you can search online for Budala Pottery.

Guest Access

You will have the entire house including the front porch. I will be working in my studio at times which is in the back yard but I will not be coming in the house. You are more than welcome to visit me however.

Interaction with Guests

The check in is automatic; the keys and instructions will be by the front door when you arrive. I am always available by phone.

The Neighborhood

Belmont as the oldest subdivision in the United States has come far in the past decade. With the opening of Mas Tapas in that many years, now it hosts some of Charlottesville's best and most eclectic restaurants. However there is no live music which keeps the area pretty quiet. Bridge PAI is in the neighbourhood and right across the bridge is the amphitheater end of the Downtown Mall.

Getting Around

Walking is the best way to get around. Right near the amphiteathre is the bus transit station, with the Free trolley going to UVA every fifteen minutes. Monticello and the numerous wineries are from four miles to about twenty mile range. Route 20 and 53 are straight off Monticello Ave which is one block from the house.

Other Things to Note

Most of the artwork in the house are my collection from people I have known or met in town. If you are interested in any of the works feel free to ask me about its creator.

I came to America after finishing high school in Turkey. With great luck I took Ceramics at PVCC and met the wonderful teacher and amazing potter Tom Clarkson. I continued taking ceramics on the side as I graduated from Uva with a degree in Psychology and Anthropology. After college I spent a year in the ceramics studio where my talent and interest in ceramics really burgeoned. I was ready to start my own studio at that point but the wonderful person whom I was with suggested we go traveling, so we spent the next year riding a motorcycle in India. After returning and a few part time jobs later, I finally opened my first studio in 2008. The following year I moved into this house and have my studio in the backyard where I also like to garden.
