About This Listing
Try 21st century camping with one of our comfy family camping pods, which are ideal for 2 adults and 3 children. They have a heater, lights and sockets to power travel devices. Just bring everything you would camping - apart from the tent!
Located on a 6 acre, holiday location in the northernmost of the Yorkshire Dales, Teesdale. Surrounded by farmland, it offers peace, tranquillity and beautiful views of Teesdale – yet is only 10mins from the A66. It is ideal for walkers, cyclists and dog owners (we have a dog walking field onsite) and is close to Richmond, Barnard Castle, High Force Waterfall, Raby Castle and a host of other Dales attractions.
We have 10 timber Camping Pods for hire on a nightly basis.. Camping Pods are insulated timber huts. They have good headroom, a carpeted interior floor area with lights, heater and an electric socket for mobile phones, laptops and travel devices. There is timber decking providing somewhere to sun-bathe, prepare food or hang your wet gear. The window and lockable French doors are double glazed and the Cumbrian sheep's wool insulation and fitted heater means that the Pod really is a year-round option.
There is a cycle storage area on site and we also hire out camping stoves and mattresses if you require, and breakfast packs can be provided with advance notice You will have full use of our centrally heated amenity block with free showers, loos and hairdryer.
There is also a small indoor campers' kitchen, with fridge (with freezer section for your ice blocks), kettle, toaster, microwave and basic hob.
Wi-Fi is also available on site, for a small charge.
There are picnic tables/benches provided for each pod as well as hardstanding for barbeques.
If you don't want to cook outside for yourself, there is a good pub a mile and a half up the road in Caldwell (the Brownlow Arms) which serves food in the evenings. But if you fancy a good walking destination, you can wander down to Winston Gate (15mins walk away) and take the Teesdale Way along the river Tees towards Whorlton and have lunch at The Bridge, which is open from 10am until 11pm and is also dog friendly. Alternatively, you can head into Staindrop and have brunch on the green at the Laurels cafe.
All in all, the Pod really is 21st Century Camping. So why not revisit those fun childhood holidays, but this time with grown-up comforts.
Guests have access to our centrally heated amenity building with free showers, loos, coin operated laundry and our campers' kitchen, as well as our 3 acre field - ideal for exercising both children and dogs!
Interaction with Guests
We live on site, so are always around to help our guests if they need it. But equally happy to let them enjoy their break in peace!
The friendliness of the people, and the stunning, long-ranging views.
People visit us for the peace and tranquillity of the site and to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Therefore we ask our guests to be mindful of noise after nightfall, and quiet after midnight.
Kate gave us a very warm welcome. The shared facilities were clean and well organised. There was lots of local information that she shared with us and lots available there. The pod was spacious and clean, exactly as described. It is in a beautiful are and the big meadow in front was a bonus for de-bouncing children.
Thank you for your very positive review, Eugenie, and I'm glad you enjoyed your experience.
Thank you also for your feedback on the heater. Funnily enough, during the winter months I do often tell people to bring thermal blankets to put on top of their airbeds, and another little trick is to put the heater on the floor, which helps. The base is insulated with sheeps wool, but when the temperatures dip below freezing at night, you do need to be prepared (which I think is what I said in my email to you before you arrived). It is, after all, a camping experience.
I hope it didn't spoil your night's stay with us, and that you would visit again - but perhaps in one of our cottages next time!
Kate and Ed
I hope it
Nous n'avions pas compris le principe des "pods" et sommes arrivés chez l'hôte sans matelas et sacs de couchage.
Kate nous a dépanné en nous fournissant des matelas gonflables.
We booked fairly last minute for one night. Having never stayed in a pod before we were really looking forward to it. As a big family, pitching a tent for one night is a lot of hard work. Our children aged 2,3,7 loved it. The site itself is lovely, very clean, tidy and friendly. It was great to know the kids could run around the field safely without escaping :) we are very happy to recommend the site and the pods to anyone! Looking forward to going back!
We had a wonderful stay at Hillcrest farm, the pods are fantastic, lovely and warm and easily slept four adults. There's a lovely picnic bench outside and the views are stunning. Good kitchen and toilet facilities too. We went to the Brownlow arms down the road for dinner which was nice. Kate was really welcoming, hope to go again soon!
A friendly welcome, a warm and well-appointed pod (just as described) and a beautiful location. We even got advice on where to swim in the nearby river! Recommended.
For anyone considering staying in a camping pod.... DO IT..!! This place is fantastic, the pods are great, warm, clean and easily sleep a family of 4/5. We had a brilliant stay here. Kate is so welcoming, the whole site is clean and well organised, the facilities including showers and kitchen are spotless, there is a field perfect for dogs, and an area for the children to play. Some great pubs and eateries in close by villages....We will definitely go back...and I would recommend Hillcrest Park to anyone, thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thankyou Kate, we will be back.!!

About the Host, Kate
Me and my husband, Ed, run Hillcrest Park, which is a small holiday destination in Teesdale - one of the Northernmost of the Yorkshire Dales. It's our home as well as our business, so we like to make sure people feel welcome, whether they're staying in one of our cottages, pods or bringing their own motorhome or caravan.
