The space

Hillcrest Park is our 6 acre, holiday location in the northernmost of the Yorkshire Dales, Teesdale. Surrounded by farmland, it offers peace, tranquillity and beautiful views of Teesdale – yet is only 10mins from the A66. It is ideal for walkers, cyclists and dog owners (we have a dog walking field onsite) and is close to Richmond, Barnard Castle, High Force Waterfall, Raby Castle and a host of other Dales attractions.

Camping Pods are solidly built, insulated wooden huts with good headroom and a carpeted interior floor area, with lights, a heater and an electric socket to power mobile phones, laptops and travel devices for that little bit of extra comfort. There is timber decking providing somewhere to sun-bathe, prepare food or hang your wet gear. The window and lockable French doors are double glazed and the Cumbrian sheep's wool insulation and fitted heater means that the Pod really is a year-round option.

There is a cycle storage area on site and we also hire out camping stoves and mattresses if you require and can provide a breakfast pack with advance notice. You will have full use of our centrally heated amenity block with free showers, loos, hairdryer, hot water for dishwashing, fridge, kettle, microwave and hob plus a coin operated laundry.

There are picnic tables/benches provided for each pod as well as hardstanding for barbeques.

If you don't want to cook outside for yourself, there is a good pub a mile and a half up the road in Caldwell (the Brownlow Arms) which serves food in the evenings. But if you fancy a good walking destination, you can wander down to Winston Gate (15mins walk away) and take the Teesdale Way along the river Tees towards Whorlton and have lunch at The Bridge, which is open from 10am until 11pm and is also dog friendly. Alternatively, you can head into Staindrop and have brunch on the green at the Laurels cafe.

All in all, the Pod really is 21st Century Camping. So why not revisit those fun childhood holidays, but this time with grown-up comforts.

Guest access

Guests have access to our centrally heated amenity block with free showers, loos and campers' kitchen, and also our 3 acre field, ideal for exercising both children and dogs! We also have a small shop on site selling the basics.

Interaction with guests

We're here to help all our guests if they need it. But also happy to let them enjoy their break in peace!

Other things to note

Remember staying in a camping pod is very much a camping experience - just in more comfort - so bring all your camping kit!

House Rules
Check in time is 2PM - 7PM

Hillcrest Park is a peaceful location, and people visit us to have a quiet break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We therefore do not accept group bookings or bookings of more than two adults per pod (children and dogs are, of course, very welcome to accompany their adults!). We live here too, and ask that our visitors are quiet after nightfall, do not play loud music and there is no noise after midnight.

Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be returning, Kate is very friendly and gives a good explanation of the site and surroundings, on first arriving you could clearly see the grounds were well maintained, the wash rooms were clean and to a good standard, great shared kitchen areas with a few utensils etc if you've forgotten your own, there's a small shop in reception and Dottie the caravan that offers up breakfast and afternoon tea is well worth a visit.

Had such a lovely weekend at Hillcrest Park. The pod we stayed in was lovely! The area is really tranquil and perfect for a breakaway. The cabin is warm and homely and the views are impeccable. The greeting was fab and so were the recommendations. I'd definitely recommend staying here, it's something a bit different from the norm and really is a unique experience. Thanks Kate!

Response from Kate:
Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and thanks for the good review. I notice that reported to airbnb that you had issues with check in and said that we were not here on arrival. We were here, as you know, as I called you within 2mins of your call (as I walked past you and your car on the way to reception). It's just Ed & I here, so on a busy arrival day it is impossible to man the reception for every second of the day. I hope your extremely short wait didn't impact on your stay.

I really really enjoyed my stay -- the pod was great: clean, cute, warm, and cozy. I don't have a car, so came up on the train from London, and Kate was very generous in helping me find a way from Darlington to her place and back again. My dog was very happy, and the other guests were also very nice.

Lovely little stay in one of Kates Pods, the pod itself was spot on, the scenery was amazing and Kate was a great host! Not to mention Dotties, the little caravan that sold food and drinks for very reasonable prices. There was so much to see and do and everything was in driving distance, it was everything me and my couple hoped for and more, we will definitely be back to stay again! :) Highly recommend if you're after a chilled scenic get away.

Ed and I own and run Hillcrest Park, which is a small holiday park in Teesdale - one of the Northernmost of the Yorkshire Dales. It's our home as well as our business, so we like to make sure people feel welcome, whether they're staying in one of our cottages, pods or bringing their own motorhome or caravan.
