Snowgums | Bushwalkers Delight

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · Stuarts Road, Katoomba, NSW 2780, Australia

The Space

Welcome to Snowgums!

If you want clean, cosy, contemporary and uncluttered accommodation where along with a bedroom, you have your own sitting room and bathroom plus a simple kitchenette, in a quiet street a little away from the hubbub of central Katoomba, this is the place for you! The amazing Blue Mountains National Park is just 100m down the road hence the name 'Bushwalkers Delight'.

Your accommodation:
Snowgums is set up ideally for couples. However, we do provide a single fold-up bed for when there are two guests who don't wish to share the double bed or when there are 3 guests. For a 3rd person there is an extra charge of $25 per night but if you are two singles, a simple one-off extra $25 is charged for the use of the fold-up bed.

Along with shower, toilet and vanity, your bathroom includes a deep bath to soak in after a hard day’s walking or café cruising. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, epson salts (for the bath) and a hairdryer are provided along with sunscreen. If you're feeling romantic, light the candles along the bath edge too!

Because we live here as well, when we have Airbnb guests we erect a temporary screen allowing you exclusive access to the front component of the house.

Wifi – yes, free wifi is provided.

There are plenty of books and magazines to read and board games to play and a TV and many DVDs to watch if you so desire (no extra charge).

At Snowgums we can give you loads of ideas for great walks to do in the area as Sue especially has done many of the local walks here herself. We can also lend you a daypack and water bottles if you don't have your own plus sunscreen to keep harmful UV rays at bay!

To give your day a healthy and relaxed start a nourishing breakfast of toast with an assortment of spreads, cereals including home-made muesli, preserved and fresh fruit, yoghurt and juice are provided. If you have any special dietary needs, please just let us know when you're booking so we can provide something suitable for you. The simple kitchenette comprises coffee and a selection of teas, a small fridge, a microwave, a sink plus jug and toaster, so you can be totally self-sufficient with meals or just keep your drinks and yummy goodies cold.

We recommend washing and drying your clothes at the Katoomba Laundromat as we have no dryer. For people staying 3 days or more we are happy to do a load of washing without charge. Otherwise we charge $10 per load.

We have plenty of parking space so you can park your car off the road for extra security (although our street is so quiet and is not a 'through road' so few people come down it anyway!).

We have a very friendly Jack Russell dog called Spook (see his picture in the photo gallery). He will welcome you and loves to have his belly rubbed.

Local public transport
Snowgums is a 20 minute walk from both the train station and the centre of town. Unfortunately there is not much public transport nearby so you either need to enjoy walking or bring your own car. At times, we may be able to pick you up or drop you at the train station or drop you at the start of a bush walk but this depends on our movements.

Sue is a keen bushwalker and can recommend many local walks. For the more adventurous who want to do the 6-foot track (a 3-day walk between Katoomba and Jenolan), if you stay at Snowgums for a minimum of 3 nights, you can leave your car on the premises reducing the risk of break in etc. By the way, you can reach the start of the 6-foot track with a short 15-20 minute walk down a bush track just down the road from Snowgums. Twice we have had guests who stayed at Snowgums for 3 nights, caught the bus to Jenolan Caves and then walked the 3 days back to Snowgums for another night's stay to shower, eat and relax before furthering their trip. Both sets of guests really appreciated being able to leave some stuff at Snowgums while away on their 6-foot track walk and the warm welcome of a home away from home at the end of their long walk.

What to do in and around Katoomba

Well, obviously there’s tons of bushwalking. Katoomba sits in the premier Blue Mountains National Park and has many hundreds of amazing walks for both novice and experienced walkers. To get the most out of the area, keen hiking guests have found two full days for hiking the best. Day 1 to explore many of the 'local to Katoomba' walks then day 2 explore the absolutely extraordinary Grose Valley (see pics) often followed by another day to see the non-hiking highlights of the fabulous Blue Mountain villages (see below).

Most of the walks near the world famous Three Sisters are very popular, well signposted and well maintained. As soon as you step out of the popular tourist areas around Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls, signposting may disappear altogether however. Always seek advice and, if you’re heading out of the usual tourist areas, we recommend you pick up a personal electronic locator from the police station where they are provided free of charge. These are used in remoter areas if you find yourself in need of evacuation. Just saying!

Café/restaurant cruising:
Katoomba and Leura have some fantastic eateries and pubs. Talk to us and we can recommend some great places to eat whether you’re after a quick and cheap meal or something more sophisticated. Several venues offer live music too.

Other local highlights:
The local villages of Mt Victoria, Blackheath, Leura and Wentworth Falls are all within easy reach of Katoomba. Aside from great bushwalking too, they feature galleries, local markets and some fabulous giftware, gourmet food, antique and bespoke furniture stores.

If its wet and horrible outside, there's always The Edge movie theatre for popular movies or the amazing and eclectic Mt Vic Flicks (recently reopened) for arthouse movies with great atmosphere.

If you’re into yoga, meditation or day spas there are many places to enjoy these delights as well.

So come and stay at Snowgums. We can’t wait to meet you!

  • Lovely Sue and Bob made my stay very special. Not only was the accommodation very neat, quiet and comfortable but they went out of their way to help me find the best walks and food options and often to physically drop me off at either as well. If you are a walker you can even literally start walking from the house and within a short distance get onto some great tracks. Great value. Highly recommended.

Thank you Stefan for the rave review. We loved having you here and always try to do what we can for people without a car in helping them get to some of the best walks. Hope to see you again some time - next time bring the family!

  • Beautiful house in a lovely location close to Katoomba at the edge of the forest. Great area for bird watchers. Large modern and very clean bathroom, separate comfortable sitting room. Generous breakfast with delicious home made muesli. Compact separate kitchen with microwave, toaster and kettle. Comprehensive binder with useful tourist information for the Blue Mountains. Susan and Bob have thought this out very well.

Come and see us again next time you're in Australia! And I'll have some more walking recommendations by then. Ciao, Sue and Bob

  • Wow, what a great place! Beautiful surroundings, two spacious, very clean and comfortable rooms, separate kitchenette - everything you need to feel like home. And breakfast was nice too. Sue & Bob were very friendly, pleasant and helpful, they gave us a few advises where to go/what to do during our very short stay. I wish we could stay longer, as Blue Mountains and Snowgums are so beautiful :-) Oh, and Spook is so lovely! I highly recommend it (P.S. a bit far from town center, so have a car or be prepared to walk more :) ).

  • Sue and Bob have a great place in a beautiful area. It was rainy while we were there but we still did a good walk and got a taste of the Blue Mountains. The guest area of the house is very spacious and comfortable, with everything we needed. Highly recommended!

  • It was delight to share Sue & Bob’s lovely home. Snowgums is ideally located to discover the Blue Mountains. Sue & Bob were the perfect hosts; all of our needs were catered for from the healthy breakfast of home made muesli, fresh fruit, yogurt & toast which set us up for a day of exploring to the comfy sitting f room for relaxing in the evening. There was a small kitchen so if you just want to chill and make your own food you can. Sue & Bob gave us plenty of information about the local area to make our visit a memorable one.

When we travel, we like to soak in the culture of a place and get in touch with the 'real' humanity of a place, not just its tourist sites. And because we live in such a beautiful part of the world, and our house is larger than we need for just ourselves, we have decided to share this beautiful space with others. We value your privacy and ours too though so when we have guests staying with us, we love to interact with them but also love to offer privacy so don't worry, we won't be 'in your face' all the time! The types of people we love meeting are open minded travellers especially those who love the outdoors, nature and serenity. Our dog, Spook, will welcome you too. Sue is a keen bushwalker and can offer recommendations for walks suitable to all types of people. She is also a vipassana meditator. Bob is a retired carpenter and draftsman and loves meeting new people and, when possible, driving them to great walks in the area.
