Welcome to Snowgums!
If you are after clean, cosy, contemporary and uncluttered accommodation where along with a bedroom, you have your own sitting room and bathroom plus a simple kitchenette, in a quiet street a little away from the hubbub of central Katoomba, this is the place for you! The amazing Blue Mountains National Park is just 100m down the road hence the name 'Bushwalkers Delight'.
Snowgums is set up ideally for couples. However, we do provide a single fold-up bed for when there are two guests who don't wish to share the double bed or when there are 3 guests. If the fold-up bed is used there is an extra charge of $25 per night.
Along with shower, toilet and vanity, your bathroom includes a deep bath to soak in after a hard day’s walking or café cruising. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, epson salts (for the bath) and a hairdryer are provided along with sunscreen. If you're feeling romantic, light the candles along the bath edge too!
Because we live here too when we have Airbnb guests, we screen off the entire front of the house for your privacy.
Wifi – yes, free wifi is provided.
There are plenty of books and magazines to read and board games to play and a TV and many DVDs to watch if you so desire (no extra charge).
At Snowgums we can give you loads of ideas for great walks to do in the area as Sue especially has done many of the local walks here herself. We can also lend you a daypack and water bottles if you don't have your own plus sunscreen to keep harmful UV rays at bay!
To give your day a healthy and relaxed start a nourishing breakfast of toast with an assortment of spreads, cereals including home-made muesli, preserved and fresh fruit, yoghurt and juice are provided. If you have any special dietary needs, please just let us know when you're booking so we can provide something suitable for you. The simple kitchenette comprises coffee and a selection of teas, a small fridge, a microwave, a sink plus jug and toaster, so you can be totally self-sufficient with meals or just keep your drinks and yummy goodies cold.
We recommend washing and drying your clothes at the Katoomba Laundromat as we have no dryer. For people staying 3 days or more we are happy to do a load of washing without charge. Otherwise we charge $10 per load.
We have plenty of parking space so you can park your car off the road for extra security (although our street is so quiet and is not a 'through road' so few people come down it anyway!).
We have a very friendly Jack Russell dog called Spook (see his picture in the photo gallery). He will welcome you and loves to have his belly rubbed.
Local public transport
Snowgums is a 20 minute walk from both the train station and the centre of town. Unfortunately there is not much public transport nearby so you either need to enjoy walking or bring your own car. At times, we may be able to pick you up or drop you at the train station or drop you at the start of a bush walk but this depends on our movements.
Sue is a keen bushwalker and can recommend many local walks. For the more adventurous who want to do the 6-foot track (a 3-day walk between Katoomba and Jenolan), if you stay at Snowgums for a minimum of 3 nights, you can leave your car on the premises reducing the risk of break in etc. By the way, you can reach the start of the 6-foot track with a short 15-20 minute walk down a bush track just down the road from Snowgums. Twice we have had guests who stayed at Snowgums for 3 nights, caught the bus to Jenolan Caves and then walked the 3 days back to Snowgums for another night's stay to shower, eat and relax before furthering their trip. Both sets of guests really appreciated being able to leave some stuff at Snowgums while away on their 6-foot track walk and the warm welcome of a home away from home at the end of their long walk.
What to do in and around Katoomba
Well, obviously there’s tons of bushwalking. Katoomba sits in the premier Blue Mountains National Park and has many hundreds of amazing walks for both novice and experienced walkers. To get the most out of the area, keen hiking guests have found two full days for hiking the best. Day 1 to explore many of the 'local to Katoomba' walks then day 2 explore the absolutely extraordinary Grose Valley (see pics) often followed by another day to see the non-hiking highlights of the fabulous Blue Mountain villages (see below).
Most of the walks near the world famous Three Sisters are very popular, well signposted and well maintained. As soon as you step out of the popular tourist areas around Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls, signposting may disappear altogether however. Always seek advice and, if you’re heading out of the usual tourist areas, we recommend you pick up a personal electronic locator from the police station where they are provided free of charge. These are used in remoter areas if you find yourself in need of evacuation. Just saying!
Katoomba and Leura have some fantastic eateries and pubs. Talk to us and we can recommend some great places to eat whether you’re after a quick and cheap meal or something more sophisticated. Several venues offer live music too.
Other local highlights:
The local villages of Mt Victoria, Blackheath, Leura and Wentworth Falls are all within easy reach of Katoomba. Aside from great bushwalking too, they feature galleries, local markets and some fabulous giftware, gourmet food, antique and bespoke furniture stores.
If its wet and horrible outside, there's always The Edge movie theatre for popular movies or the amazing and eclectic Mt Vic Flicks (recently reopened) for arthouse movies with great atmosphere.
If you’re into yoga, meditation or day spas there are many places to enjoy these delights as well.
So come and stay at Snowgums. We can’t wait to meet you!

It was delight to share Sue & Bob’s lovely home. Snowgums is ideally located to discover the Blue Mountains. Sue & Bob were the perfect hosts; all of our needs were catered for from the healthy breakfast of home made muesli, fresh fruit, yogurt & toast which set us up for a day of exploring to the comfy sitting f room for relaxing in the evening. There was a small kitchen so if you just want to chill and make your own food you can. Sue & Bob gave us plenty of information about the local area to make our visit a memorable one.
We couldn't think off a better place to discover the Blue Mountains. Sue and Bob were a great help in giving us ideas for visits or restaurants.
Although we spent a lot of time outside (visiting), it was a nice retreat once the sun was down: the place is lovely!
Thanks again for your warm welcome and for being so helpful.
The house is a perfect location to visit the blue Mountains.
The house is PERFECT. Susan and Bob are a PERFECTS host for prepare your arrival and give you any information (thank you Bob).
It's one of our pefered stay in Australia.
Thank you Susan and Bob!
We had terrific time staying at Susan's and Bob's place. The hosts and wonderful and and house is just beautiful. Very good hiking opportunities. We just followed the tips from Bob and Susan and found ourselves in marvelous scenic places. Thank you so much!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Sue and Bob. Great set up with your own private living room and huge private bathroom fit for a king! There is everything you'd want there, even a rucksck with drinks bottles for walking. It feels like your in your own private appartment. Great location, we took our bikes and cycled into town only 5 minutes. Cracking breakfast of fruit, homemade muesli, jams, bread, yoghurt! Top notch, cheers guys
Sue and Bob were perfect hosts- great to talk to, very welcoming, and also respectful of their guest's space. Thank you. Their home is beautiful. Just like the photos. Lovely bedroom, lounge area and spotless bathroom. Perfect setting for a visit to the Blue Mountains. Great info file with everything that we needed to know. Amazing homemade muesli! Thanks Bob for the lift from the train station. We'd love to come back to stay again- plenty more walks to do!
We had a fabulous time staying with Susan and Bob. They went to great lengths to find out what we are interested and show us around - way behind what could be expected. We greatly enjoyed their company, along with their noble dog Spook.
The room is very comfortable and in a beautiful setting with bush walks very close to the house. Highly recommended.
What a pleasant stay we had at Sue and Bob's place! The area made for the guests in their house offers great privacy and it is very cozy. We felt like home in a small comfy apartment thanks to the modern bathroom (having a bath after a day of bush walking was so nice) and to the reading room where you can rest, watch a movie (what a great DVD selection) or enjoy your breakfast. Speaking of the breakfast, what a great and healthy choice we had every morning: cereals, fresh fruits, yogurt, toasts, etc. Finally, the location is great! So convenient to get to all the walks in Katoomba (Sue & Bob have some great suggestions) and to visit the Blue Mountains. We will definitely stay here again if in the area.
Sue and Bob are the consumate hosts, considerate and supportive of their guests needs. They have an intimate knowledge of the area and can help visitors with suggestions and directions. We found them warm and accommnodating and would not hesitate to recommend their place to stay. Near by is a bush walk that leads you to a spectacular lookout over the Blue Mountain valley that is only known to the locals. As a Canadian and Austrian we found the area to be spectacular and worth the time to explore and enjoy.
Susan was a great host, we arrived with our daughter and Susan had forgotten there was to be 3 of us - she kindly organised the extra bed - which was not very comfortable but we all managed beautifully. Unfortunally Dog and partner were not there, Susan was working and although she was incredibly busy she managed to make us feel at home and we really enjoyed her lovely house in a lovely bushland setting. We would love to come back again and enjoy the fantastic walks - it was a great experience for us all.
Thanks Georgina. The extra bed experiment showed us we need to purchase a much higher quality one - which we're in the process of doing so anyone coming who needs the extra bed will be much more comfortable. Thank you for being so accommodating and I'm sorry I was so busy. Would have loved to spend more time with you. Perhaps next time! Ciaoxx
