  • We were delighted with the accommodation provided by Douglas Thornton. It was both beautifully presented and scrupulously clean in an ideal location to visit the major museums and monuments. Douglas ensured our stay was comfortable and offered us every assistance to make the most of our time in Washington DC. We will certainly try try to stay here again when we next visit. • We had a great time exploring Washington DC from Douglas' apartment. The apartment is quite conveniently located across the street from the Potomac Ave orange/blue line metro station. We used the metro system each day to get to/from the centre of the DC. There is a very good supermarket Harris Teeter right next to the apartment block so we ended up cooking on 3 out of 4 nights we stayed in the apartment. The apartment is also within walking distance of Eastern Market restaurants and it is a very nice walk through the historical area along G street from there. Douglas was very helpful with checkin (helped us with Wi-Fi setup). I would recommend the apartment .Probably my only criticism was the pay TV and Wi-Fi stopped working on the last night but the convenience of the apartment outweighed that.

  • We had a great stay in DC. Douglas met us, took us up to the apartment, and showed my husband how to get to the parking space in the garage. Everything was very clean and exactly as shown in the photos. The location was extremely convenient, only a few minutes walk to the Metro station. We shopped at the grocery store on the first floor of the building several times. They have a great hot food bar & you can easily buy ready-cooked food if you are too tired to go out. I guess the only suggestion that I have would be to either provide drapes in the bedrooms or use thicker blinds. The current blinds are white and rather thin, and with the summer sun rising early I found myself awake at 5:00 am nearly every morning due to the light in the room. Other than that, I would have no problems staying there again.

  • A fabulous place: this apartment was everything we expected and then some!
Douglas was waiting for us upon arrival and was very welcoming. Ideally placed, 2min walk from the Potomac Avenue Metro Station and next door to a Harris Teeter supermarket, perfect to get everything you need for our meals, etc. Fast private Wi-Fi. A perfect stay. We also enjoyed a stupendous sunset behind the Capitol on the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue one evening on the way back to the apartment: magic!

  • We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend Douglas' apartment as a great place when visiting Washington.Very conveniently located with supermarket close by and subway across the road. Only anxiety was when I couldn't, contact Douglas by email a couple of days before stay to arrange to collect keys but eventually made contact by phone and all worked out fine

  • This apartment is fantastic. So much space and everthing exactly as the pictures and description suggest. It is in a great location with supermarket on the ground floor, subway and bus stops across the road. Very easy to get anywhere in DC.

  • This apartment was fantastic! A beautiful facility with a market below and a quiet courtyard to enjoy after our long days of sightseeing. The subway is located directly across the street just minutes to downtown D.C., but we walked one day. It was very quiet, the apartment extremely clean, and we would certainly stay again. We were met by Gayle and she was was warm and helpful. The pictures don't do justice as to how nice this apartment really is.

  • Beautifully presented apartment, clean and well furnished. Great location close to transport & supermarket next door. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Washington. The four of us would definitely stay here again. Thank you both from the travelling Shirleys.

  • The big negative with this apartment is the owner's failure to provide a dedicated wifi network in the apartment itself. It is possible to use the wifi in the business center in the complex, but it is massively inconvenient to have to go all the way down there every time each of you wants to go online. When you are in the apartment itself, your wifi-enabled devices will detect a number of wifi networks from surrounding neighbours. Two or three of these are not password protected, so it is possible to get onto them, although the signal strength is very unreliable. We didn't feel good about doing this, because tapping into unsuspecting neighbours' wifi is, in effect, stealing.
At the time I booked this apartment, the listing did not explicitly say that wifi is NOT provided by the owner in the apartment itself. Wifi was listed as one of the amenities provided on the amenities page, so I assumed that it would be available in the apartment itself.
We were a party of three who stayed for a week in April 2013, and each of us had two or three devices which needed to be on wifi. We raised the wifi access issue with both Gayle (via SMS) and Douglas (by email) the day after we arrived. Gayle never responded. Douglas responded the next day by email, telling us to use the neighbours' networks that were not password protected and naming them for us, commenting that those networks had been working fine the week before. I pointed out that those were not our networks to use, and to that I received no further response.
Another issue with the apartment was the fact that there was no kettle, only a coffee-maker. This made it difficult to make tea - you had to boil water in a saucepan. Again, this was raised with both Gayle and Douglas early on, and Douglas responded on day three that he would provide a "tea pot", but in fact it was never provided. Instead, he seemed to have changed his mind and sent another email telling us to make hot water for tea using the coffee machine. That was a small issue which could have been promptly and inexpensively solved, but it was not.
In general, this is a very nice apartment, and it is well located - with a big supermarket downstairs, and a metro station across the road.
However, the title "Luxury Suite" is a misnomer. If three people shower one after another, the hot water tends to run out. The coat hangers which were in the closets were tatty and not plentiful (we actually got some better ones and left them there). The single twin beds were noisy when you turn over in them. The light in the dressing room off the main bedroom did not work. It was nice that washing detergent was provided, but a roll of bin bags for the kitchen trash can would have been a nice touch.
