From April to September, Tauhara Sunrise is available as a vacation rental. (It operates as a 5 star hosted boutique lodge from October to March).
The main house (6000 square feet/600 sm) has two levels. Downstairs are a king suite and a queen suite, both with en-suites and beautiful lake views, separated by a large kitchenette. Each suite has a flat screen TV, individual satellite TV decoder, sound system, DVD player and heat pump.
Upstairs is the master suite with spa bath, TV with satellite decoder, & heat pump, plus a children's room with two beds, TV & adjacent bathroom, plus the kitchen, dining and living rooms. Outside the dining & living area is a massive patio with 6 person spa under a covered section of the patio.
A romantically appointed luxury cottage sits on the rear of the property and has its own vehicle entrance. It has a king bed, gas fire, lounge area with kitchenette, bathroom with double shower, double spa bath & double vanity. It also has a flat screen TV with sky satellite and a Denon sound system. All beds (except children) have 1000 thread count sheets.
The dining table seats 8 comfortably, but with the addition of an extension table can seat 10-12. The views of the city lights at night from the dining room are spectacular. The living room has a lovely log fire (firewood in the garage). There is a wood fired pizza oven in the back courtyard, as well as a gas barbeque.
We are happy to make one of our vehicles available if desired, plus a men's mountain bike. We also have tennis rackets and golf clubs which you may use. There are community tennis courts across the road.
It is a 5 minute walk down to a lovely local restaurant which has a pizza menu, a bar menu and a full restaurant menu (it takes 10 minutes to walk back up the hill)! It is a 10 minute walk down to Acacia Bay.
Our property is the top rated bed & breakfast in Taupo on Trip Advisor, though for airbnb customers, we are promoting it as a self contained vacation rental during the period April to September.
We take great pride in our property and operate it as a 5 star boutique lodge during the southern hemisphere tourist season (Oct-Mar). We therefore simply ask that our self catering guests treat the property with respect, that there is no smoking indoors and that no pets be brought onto the property.
Stay here and you could give this host their first review!
Becky is from Austin, Texas, and has four generations of her family living there. She worked in mortgage banking for 15 years, and in her spare time, Becky and her mother catered weddings and other small events. After retiring from the mortgage industry, Becky became a trained massage therapist. Her warm Texan personality and her massaging skills ensure a relaxing stay for guests, while her culinary skills produce taste sensations for breakfasts, hors d'oeuvres, and dinners.
Rob is a Kiwi (New Zealander), who has travelled extensively – spending 19 years in Austin, Texas working in high-tech marketing. He returned to NZ in 2002 to open Tauhara Sunrise. Rob's passions include fishing, music, gardening and wine (his cellar features primarily New Zealand and Australian wines). Rob's CD collection is extensive, and having been bitten by the fly-fishing bug, he sneaks off to the rivers at every available opportunity.
Pillpot, is the family cat. She was adopted from the SPCA when Becky and Rob moved to Taupo. Pillpot is an indoor/outdoor cat, so for guests who might have an allergy problem, Pillpot is quite happy staying outside and roaming the grounds.
