A. tardis of a house with a delightful south-facing deck within walking distance of the magical Birnham Lagoon and woods. Two miles from the centre of Dingle Town, Heron's Reach lets you enjoy the amenities of the town combined with the quiet of the countryside. The front of the house has views over Mount Brandon and at the back of the house, nosy cows look over the fence.
There are four bedrooms, each offering slightly different features. There is one en-suite double room, a twin room with open fire, a queen size with washbasin and access to south facing decking. Upstairs there is a large family room. There is a large living room with a tv but our experience tells us that most of our guests like to spend the evening talking, often over a glass of wine or bowl of ice cream. For those who prefer to cook for themselves there is a well-equipt kitchen with a dishwasher. We have wifi but cannot be held responsible for any problems caused by our suppliers.
How to sum up Dingle. Most people use the word 'magic'. Within 20 minutes there is hill walking, swimming, golf, restaurants (our favourite at the moment is The Global Village), shopping, canoeing, traditional music and best of all, peace and quiet. Watch the sun rising over the lagoon listening to the cries of oyster catchers and enter another world.
The house has plenty of parking and storage space for bikes, canoe, etc. It is fully equipped and also has wifi. We accept well behaved dogs by arrangement.
Town is a 30 minute walk and 8 euro taxi ride home after an evening enjoying the pubs of Dingle. There is no public transport but hitching is easy and pretty safe.
Run by award winning writers, Louise and Chris this house has been the inspiration for many artists who want time to think and work. Writing tution, mentoring and appraisal by separate arrangement. Come with an idea, go home with a masterpiece.
Guests are welcome to use the kitchen, living room, shared bathroom. Guests should be aware that unless they have made a whole house booking, that at such a popular house there may be others at the property. If you want something self-contained please see our one bedroom property, The Nest on Airbnb.
Interaction with Guests
We move between England and Ireland and if we are away guests are looked after by our house keeper, Linda. We are writers and may have projects to complete during your stay, we are not being rude if we chose to stay in our room, just getting on with work even though we woud prefer to be doing something else.
Other Things to Note
We are unable to cater for special diets. If there is something you especially need for your breakfast please bring it with you.
We know you will enjoy sharing our house and expect you to behave as you would guests in your own home. There will be late nights, that's what music in Dingle is about but we would ask you to come in quietly and not disturb other people.
Kitchen hygine is important and we expect you to clear up after your cooking. It's not too hard - there's a dishwasher!
louise was great and very helpful. organising with her was very simple. The house itself is beautiful and in a wonderful location.
Great host. Friendly & quick communication. Nice house, secluded but easily accessible to Dingle town.
We liked Dingle and its surroundings very much. The house is very spacey and in a good, quiet position.
Louise's home was lovely. We ended up extending our stay an extra night because we loved the town and got so lucky with the sunshine. We didn't meet Louise as she was out of town, but our contact remained smooth and she graciously accommodated us for an extra night. Linda (Louise's alternative contact) was also helpful and reachable via phone for our questions. Peaceful location outside the center. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone staying in Dingle!
nice if you go with friends
We stayed in the "Rambling House," next to Atlantic Cottage, and loved it there! The kitchen was bright and sunny, and such a nice place to hang out and enjoy the gorgeous views in the mornings before we got out and about. Louise greeted us when we arrived, and made sure we had everything we needed, and was always on hand if any questions came up, or if we needed advice. Just up the hill there are the ruins of a church that are definitely worth a visit, and there are some walking trails around there too, with great views. Would definitely recommend!
Obviously you had not read the house rules about clearing up after yourselves but was it really appropriate to not use plates and to leave jam spoons on the table? We are not a bed and breakfast establishment and do not profess to be such, we leave guests a simple help-yourself breakfast because we are working. You arrived and went straight out so we did not get the impression that you wanted to spend time with us.

I live in England but spend every spare moment in our house in Dingle. We run Writer's Retreats at the house and now want to open it up to other people so they can discover the hidden Dingle we have explored over the past 13 years.
We have a dog, Zip and a 3 legged cat Mimi. Zip loves being taken for walks by guests. I'm a keen walker. My husband Chris, has Parkinson's and has to take things more easily but loves sharing stories with guests. We are both writers and you will often find us working away on our latest projects.
My favourite thing to do in Dingle is fish, and then share what I have caught with other people. I love cooking and there is always a home made cake on the go.
